    Percolation-Based Approaches For Ray-Optical Propagation in Inhomogeneous Random Distribution of Discrete Scatterers

    We address the problem of optical ray propagation in an inhomogeneous halfďż˝]plane lattice, where each cell can be occupied according to a known oneďż˝]dimensional obstacles density distribution. A monochromatic plane wave impinges on the random grid with a known angle and undergoes specular reflections on the occupied cells. We present two different approaches for evaluating the propagation depth inside the lattice. The former is based on the theory of the Martingale random processes, while in the latter ray propagation is modelled in terms of a Markov chain. A numerical validation assesses the proposed solutions, while validation through experimental data shows that the percolation model, in spite of its simplicity, can be applied to model real propagation problems

    A predefined channel coefficients library for vehicle-to-vehicle communications

    It is noticeable that most of VANETs communications tests are assessed through simulation. In a majority of simulation results, the physical layer is often affected by an apparent lack of realism. Therefore, vehicular channel model has become a critical issue in the field of intelligent transport systems (ITS). To overcome the lack of realism problem, a more robust channel model is needed to reflect the reality. This paper provides an open access, predefined channel coefficients library. The library is based on 2x2 and 4x4 Multiple – Input – Multiple – Output (MIMO) systems in V2V communications, using a spatial channel model extended SCME which will help to reduce the overall simulation time. In addition, it provides a more realistic channel model for V2V communications; considering: over ranges of speeds, distances, multipath signals, sub-path signals, different angle of arrivals, different angle departures, no line of sight and line of sight. An intensive evaluation process has taken place to validate the library and acceptance results are produced. Having an open access predefined library, enables the researcher at relevant communities to test and evaluate several complicated vehicular communications scenarios in a wider manners with less time and efforts

    Analytical Model for Outdoor Millimeter Wave Channels using Geometry-Based Stochastic Approach

    The severe bandwidth shortage in conventional microwave bands has spurred the exploration of the millimeter wave (MMW) spectrum for the next revolution in wireless communications. However, there is still lack of proper channel modeling for the MMW wireless propagation, especially in the case of outdoor environments. In this paper, we develop a geometry-based stochastic channel model to statistically characterize the effect of all the first-order reflection paths between the transmitter and receiver. These first-order reflections are generated by the single-bounce of signals reflected from the walls of randomly distributed buildings. Based on this geometric model, a closed-form expression for the power delay profile (PDP) contributed by all the first-order reflection paths is obtained and then used to evaluate their impact on the MMW outdoor propagation characteristics. Numerical results are provided to validate the accuracy of the proposed model under various channel parameter settings. The findings in this paper provide a promising step towards more complex and practical MMW propagation channel modeling.Comment: Accepted to appear in IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technolog
