Unveiling The Tree: A Convex Framework for Sparse Problems
This paper presents a general framework for generating greedy algorithms for
solving convex constraint satisfaction problems for sparse solutions by mapping
the satisfaction problem into one of graph traversal on a rooted tree of
unknown topology. For every pre-walk of the tree an initial set of generally
dense feasible solutions is processed in such a way that the sparsity of each
solution increases with each generation unveiled. The specific computation
performed at any particular child node is shown to correspond to an embedding
of a polytope into the polytope received from that nodes parent. Several issues
related to pre-walk order selection, computational complexity and tractability,
and the use of heuristic and/or side information is discussed. An example of a
single-path, depth-first algorithm on a tree with randomized vertex reduction
and a run-time path selection algorithm is presented in the context of sparse

IMPROVING THE DEPENDABILITY OF DESTINATION RECOMMENDATIONS USING INFORMATION ON SOCIAL ASPECTS
Prior knowledge of the social aspects of prospective destinations can be very influential in making travel destination decisions, especially in instances where social concerns do exist about specific destinations. In this paper, we describe the implementation of an ontology-enabled Hybrid Destination Recommender System (HDRS) that leverages an ontological description of five specific social attributes of major Nigerian cities, and hybrid architecture of content-based and case-based filtering techniques to generate personalised top-n destination recommendations. An empirical usability test was conducted on the system, which revealed that the dependability of recommendations from Destination Recommender Systems (DRS) could be improved if the semantic representation of social
attributes information of destinations is made a factor in the destination recommendation process
Sensor data fusion for the industrial artificial intelligence of things
The emergence of smart sensors, artificial intelligence, and deep learning technologies yield artificial intelligence of things, also known as the AIoT. Sophisticated cooperation of these technologies is vital for the effective processing of industrial sensor data. This paper introduces a new framework for addressing the different challenges of the AIoT applications. The proposed framework is an intelligent combination of multi-agent systems, knowledge graphs and deep learning. Deep learning architectures are used to create models from different sensor-based data. Multi-agent systems can be used for simulating the collective behaviours of the smart sensors using IoT settings. The communication among different agents is realized by integrating knowledge graphs. Different optimizations based on constraint satisfaction as well as evolutionary computation are also investigated. Experimental analysis is undertaken to compare the methodology presented to state-of-the-art AIoT technologies. We show through experimentation that our designed framework achieves good performance compared to baseline solutions.publishedVersio
Utilizing Successful Work Practice for Business Process Evolution
Business process management (BPM) has emerged as a dominant technology in current enterprise systems and business solutions. However, business processes are always evolving in current dynamic business environments where requirements and goals are constantly changing. Whereas literature reports on the importance of domain experts in process modelling and adaptations, current solutions have not addressed this issue effectively. In this paper, we present a framework that utilizes successful work practice to support business process evolution. The framework on one hand provides the ability to use domain expert knowledge and experience to tailor individual process instances according to case specific requirements; and on the other, provides a means of using this knowledge through learning techniques to guide subsequent process changes
Planning as Tabled Logic Programming
This paper describes Picat's planner, its implementation, and planning models
for several domains used in International Planning Competition (IPC) 2014.
Picat's planner is implemented by use of tabling. During search, every state
encountered is tabled, and tabled states are used to effectively perform
resource-bounded search. In Picat, structured data can be used to avoid
enumerating all possible permutations of objects, and term sharing is used to
avoid duplication of common state data. This paper presents several modeling
techniques through the example models, ranging from designing state
representations to facilitate data sharing and symmetry breaking, encoding
actions with operations for efficient precondition checking and state updating,
to incorporating domain knowledge and heuristics. Broadly, this paper
demonstrates the effectiveness of tabled logic programming for planning, and
argues the importance of modeling despite recent significant progress in
domain-independent PDDL planners.Comment: 27 pages in TPLP 201
