    Multi crteria decision making and its applications : a literature review

    This paper presents current techniques used in Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) and their applications. Two basic approaches for MCDM, namely Artificial Intelligence MCDM (AIMCDM) and Classical MCDM (CMCDM) are discussed and investigated. Recent articles from international journals related to MCDM are collected and analyzed to find which approach is more common than the other in MCDM. Also, which area these techniques are applied to. Those articles are appearing in journals for the year 2008 only. This paper provides evidence that currently, both AIMCDM and CMCDM are equally common in MCDM

    On-line multiobjective automatic control system generation by evolutionary algorithms

    Evolutionary algorithms are applied to the on- line generation of servo-motor control systems. In this paper, the evolving population of controllers is evaluated at run-time via hardware in the loop, rather than on a simulated model. Disturbances are also introduced at run-time in order to pro- duce robust performance. Multiobjective optimisation of both PI and Fuzzy Logic controllers is considered. Finally an on-line implementation of Genetic Programming is presented based around the Simulink standard blockset. The on-line designed controllers are shown to be robust to both system noise and ex- ternal disturbances while still demonstrating excellent steady- state and dvnamic characteristics

    An ε-Constraint Method for Multiobjective Linear Programming in Intuitionistic Fuzzy Environment

    Effective decision-making requires well-founded optimization models and algorithms tolerant of real-world uncertainties. In the mid-1980s, intuitionistic fuzzy set theory emerged as another mathematical framework to deal with the uncertainty of subjective judgments and made it possible to represent hesitancy in a decision-making problem. Nowadays, intuitionistic fuzzy multiobjective linear programming (IFMOLP) problems are a topic of extensive research, for which a considerable number of solution approaches are being developed. Among the available solution approaches, ranking function-based approaches stand out for their simplicity to transform these problems into conventional ones. However, these approaches do not always guarantee Pareto optimal solutions. In this study, the concepts of dominance and Pareto optimality are extended to the intuitionistic fuzzy case by using lexicographic criteria for ranking triangular intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (TIFNs). Furthermore, an intuitionistic fuzzy epsilon-constraint method is proposed to solve IFMOLP problems with TIFNs. The proposed method is illustrated by solving two intuitionistic fuzzy transportation problems addressed in two studies (S. Mahajan and S. K. Gupta's, "On fully intuitionistic fuzzy multiobjective transportation problems using different membership functions," Ann Oper Res, vol. 296, no. 1, pp. 211-241, 2021, and Ghosh et al.'s, "Multi-objective fully intuitionistic fuzzy fixed-charge solid transportation problem," Complex Intell Syst, vol. 7, no. 2, pp. 1009-1023, 2021).     Applications of fuzzy theories to multi-objective system optimization

    Most of the computer aided design techniques developed so far deal with the optimization of a single objective function over the feasible design space. However, there often exist several engineering design problems which require a simultaneous consideration of several objective functions. This work presents several techniques of multiobjective optimization. In addition, a new formulation, based on fuzzy theories, is also introduced for the solution of multiobjective system optimization problems. The fuzzy formulation is useful in dealing with systems which are described imprecisely using fuzzy terms such as, 'sufficiently large', 'very strong', or 'satisfactory'. The proposed theory translates the imprecise linguistic statements and multiple objectives into equivalent crisp mathematical statements using fuzzy logic. The effectiveness of all the methodologies and theories presented is illustrated by formulating and solving two different engineering design problems. The first one involves the flight trajectory optimization and the main rotor design of helicopters. The second one is concerned with the integrated kinematic-dynamic synthesis of planar mechanisms. The use and effectiveness of nonlinear membership functions in fuzzy formulation is also demonstrated. The numerical results indicate that the fuzzy formulation could yield results which are qualitatively different from those provided by the crisp formulation. It is felt that the fuzzy formulation will handle real life design problems on a more rational basis
