    DRIVER Technology Watch Report

    This report is part of the Discovery Workpackage (WP4) and is the third report out of four deliverables. The objective of this report is to give an overview of the latest technical developments in the world of digital repositories, digital libraries and beyond, in order to serve as theoretical and practical input for the technical DRIVER developments, especially those focused on enhanced publications. This report consists of two main parts, one part focuses on interoperability standards for enhanced publications, the other part consists of three subchapters, which give a landscape picture of current and surfacing technologies and communities crucial to DRIVER. These three subchapters contain the GRID, CRIS and LTP communities and technologies. Every chapter contains a theoretical explanation, followed by case studies and the outcomes and opportunities for DRIVER in this field

    The SCOrWare project aims at building an open source implementation of the Service Component Architecture (SCA) specifications. This implementation is composed of 1) a runtime platform for deploying, executing, and managing SCAbased applications, 2) a set of development tools for modeling, designing, and implementing SCA-based applications, and 3) a set of demonstrators. This document contains the specifications of the SCOrWare runtime platform. Section 1.1 lists the parts of SCA specifications supported by the SCOrWare platform.     On-site customer analytics and reporting (OSCAR):a portable clinical data warehouse for the in-house linking of hospital and telehealth data

    This document conveys the results of the On-Site Customer Analytics and Reporting (OSCAR) project. This nine-month project started on January 2014 and was conducted at Philips Research in the Chronic Disease Management group as part of the H2H Analytics Project. Philips has access to telehealth data from their Philips Motiva tele-monitoring and other services. Previous projects within Philips Re-search provided a data warehouse for Motiva data and a proof-of-concept (DACTyL) solution that demonstrated the linking of hospital and Motiva data and subsequent reporting. Severe limitations with the DACTyL solution resulted in the initiation of OSCAR. A very important one was the unwillingness of hospitals to share personal patient data outside their premises due to stringent privacy policies, while at the same time patient personal data is required in order to link the hospital data with the Motiva data. Equally important is the fact that DACTyL considered the use of only Motiva as a telehealth source and only a single input interface for the hospitals. OSCAR was initiated to propose a suitable architecture and develop a prototype solution, in contrast to the proof-of-concept DACTyL, with the twofold aim to overcome the limitations of DACTyL in order to be deployed in a real-life hospital environment and to expand the scope to an extensible solution that can be used in the future for multiple telehealth services and multiple hospital environments. In the course of the project, a software solution was designed and consequently deployed in the form of a virtual machine. The solution implements a data warehouse that links and hosts the collected hospital and telehealth data. Hospital data are collected with the use of a modular service oriented data collection component by exposing web services described in WSDL that accept configurable XML data messages. ETL processes propagate the data, link, and load it on the OS-CAR data warehouse. Automated reporting is achieved using dash-boards that provide insight into the data stored in the data warehouse.     Supporting Semantically Enhanced Web Service Discovery for Enterprise Application Integration

    The availability of sophisticated Web service discovery mechanisms is an essential prerequisite for increasing the levels of efficiency and automation in EAI. In this chapter, we present an approach for developing service registries building on the UDDI standard and offering semantically-enhanced publication and discovery capabilities in order to overcome some of the known limitations of conventional service registries. The approach aspires to promote efficiency in EAI in a number of ways, but primarily by automating the task of evaluating service integrability on the basis of the input and output messages that are defined in the Web service’s interface. The presented solution combines the use of three technology standards to meet its objectives: OWL-DL, for modelling service characteristics and performing fine-grained service matchmaking via DL reasoning, SAWSDL, for creating semantically annotated descriptions of service interfaces, and UDDI, for storing and retrieving syntactic and semantic information about services and service providers

    WS-GUARD: enhancing UDDI Registries with on-line testing capabilities

    Abstract This thesis investigates the Service Oriented Architecture and in particular the runtime discovery of Web services through the development of an empowered UDDI registry called WS-GUARD (Guaranteeing Uddi Audition at Registration and Discovery). We start by presenting the Audition framework, a specially conceived framework that applies the idea of testing during the Web service registration in the UDDI registry and then we study the practical implications of its implementation focusing on the most advanced Web service technologies. This thesis aims at modifying and extending the registration protocol of Web services into UDDI registries in order to introduce a testing phase before actual service publishing: only those services that pass the audition are admitted in the registry and become publicly available at runtime. A complete prototype implementation of WS-GUARD is described and analysed. Riassunto analitico La tesi ha investigato l'ambito Service Oriented Architecture e in particolare il run-time discovery di Web service attraverso la realizzazione di un registro UDDI potenziato, denominato WS-GUARD (Guaranteeing Uddi Audition at Registration and Discovery). Principale obiettivo del lavoro è stato la modifica dei protocolli di registrazione del registro UDDI. Tale modifica è stata rivolta all'introduzione di una fase di testing preventiva alla tradizionale fase di registrazione. Ammettendo alla registrazione soltanto quei servizi che superino la fase di verifica si intende fornire maggiori garanzie sulla qualità dei servizi che saranno resi dinamicamente reperibili (discovered) a tempo di esecuzione.
