OntoMaven: Maven-based Ontology Development and Management of Distributed Ontology Repositories
In collaborative agile ontology development projects support for modular
reuse of ontologies from large existing remote repositories, ontology project
life cycle management, and transitive dependency management are important
needs. The Apache Maven approach has proven its success in distributed
collaborative Software Engineering by its widespread adoption. The contribution
of this paper is a new design artifact called OntoMaven. OntoMaven adopts the
Maven-based development methodology and adapts its concepts to knowledge
engineering for Maven-based ontology development and management of ontology

Git4Voc: Git-based Versioning for Collaborative Vocabulary Development
Collaborative vocabulary development in the context of data integration is
the process of finding consensus between the experts of the different systems
and domains. The complexity of this process is increased with the number of
involved people, the variety of the systems to be integrated and the dynamics
of their domain. In this paper we advocate that the realization of a powerful
version control system is the heart of the problem. Driven by this idea and the
success of Git in the context of software development, we investigate the
applicability of Git for collaborative vocabulary development. Even though
vocabulary development and software development have much more similarities
than differences there are still important differences. These need to be
considered within the development of a successful versioning and collaboration
system for vocabulary development. Therefore, this paper starts by presenting
the challenges we were faced with during the creation of vocabularies
collaboratively and discusses its distinction to software development. Based on
these insights we propose Git4Voc which comprises guidelines how Git can be
adopted to vocabulary development. Finally, we demonstrate how Git hooks can be
implemented to go beyond the plain functionality of Git by realizing
vocabulary-specific features like syntactic validation and semantic diffs

Rationale Management Challenges in Requirements Engineering
Rationale and rationale management have been playing an increasingly prominent role in software system development mainly due to the knowledge demand during system evaluation, maintenance, and evolution, especially for large and complex systems. The rationale management for requirements engineering, as a commencing and critical phase in software development life cycle, is still under-exploited. In this paper, we first survey briefly the state-of-the-art on rationale employment and applications in requirements engineering. Secondly, we identify the challenges in integrating rationale management in requirements engineering activities in order to promote further investigations and define a research agenda on rationale management in requirements engineering.
Towards building information modelling for existing structures
The transformation of cities from the industrial age (unsustainable) to the knowledge age (sustainable) is essentially a âwhole life cycleâ process consisting of; planning, development, operation, reuse and renewal. During this transformation, a multi-disciplinary knowledge base, created from studies and research about the built environment aspects is fundamental: historical, architectural, archeologically, environmental, social, economic, etc is critical. Although there are a growing number of applications of 3D VR modelling applications, some built environment applications such as disaster management, environmental simulations, computer aided architectural design and planning require more sophisticated models beyond 3D graphical visualization such as multifunctional, interoperable, intelligent, and multi-representational.
Advanced digital mapping technologies such as 3D laser scanner technologies can be are enablers for effective e-planning, consultation and communication of usersâ views during the planning, design, construction and lifecycle process of the built environment. For example, the 3D laser scanner enables digital documentation of buildings, sites and physical objects for reconstruction and restoration. It also facilitates the creation of educational resources within the built environment, as well as the reconstruction of the built environment. These technologies can be used to drive the productivity gains by promoting a free-flow of information between departments, divisions, offices, and sites; and between themselves, their contractors and partners when the data captured via those technologies are processed and modelled into BIM (Building Information Modelling). The use of these technologies is key enablers to the creation of new approaches to the âWhole Life Cycleâ process within the built and human environment for the 21st century. The paper describes the research towards Building Information Modelling for existing structures via the point cloud data captured by the 3D laser scanner technology. A case study building is elaborated to demonstrate how to produce 3D CAD models and BIM models of existing structures based on designated technique
The Scholarly Infrastructure Technical Summit @ eResearch Australasia 2011
Scholarly Infrastructure Technical Summit (SITS) meetings are designed to share technical operational experience between CTOs, Lead Developers and Head System Administrators so as to assure that internationally we are all DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself) i.e. saving technical operational money by learning from each other's previous experiences.Iteration four of the International Scholarly Infrastructure Technical Summit meeting following events in London and California and Geneva took place in Australia alongside the 2011 eResearch Conference (eXtreme eResearch).The eResearch conference brings together CTOs and CIOs from various Universities whose job it is to provide, work with and support IT services for scientific research projects. This was a first for SITS, which previously had seen a mix of researchers and those working on the fringes of institutional IT infrastructure. The Australian focus on supporting research directly thus provided the 4th new platform for the SITS meetings, one closest to the infrastructure itself
