The Puppets Look Like Flowers At Last

    Get PDF
The urge to uncover aspects of human condition permeates my work, from the fundamental curiosity of a child tearing apart their doll to uncover what lies within to continuing a quest in uncovering basic human urges through my puppet animated dramas and tragedies. There is a controversial line between the childlike and the adult-like that can be ambiguous, and at some times more discernible while other times less. I create handcrafted stop-frame puppet animations that explore self-conscious emotions such as embarrassment, shame, and envy within unpredictable life scenarios. These are animations about inner life, attempting to resolve conflicting elements of the human psyche. At first glance, these puppets might appear scary, but upon closer observation the viewer may realize it is the puppet who is scared

This project presents an expressive therapy program with preschool-aged victims of a natural disaster . Primary process level communication is discussed as the underlying mechanism in the expressive therapy process . The suitability of expressive therapy methods is examined through informal interviews with parents and teachers, observations by the program facilitator , and the products the children created . The expressive therapy procedure was shown to be suitable f o r this age group . The results which showed expressive therapy methods to be suitable with preschool-aged victims of a flood were that the children reacted to the expressive therapy methods with enthusiasm , changes in behaviors , and increased creativity . Additionally, the results support the theory that expressive therapy allows the communication of potentially overwhelming psychic material encased in the primary process. The expressive therapy procedures allowed three children to communicate their experience of physical and sexual abuse . The conclusion reached in the project was that expressive therapy methods are suitable for preschool-aged victims of a flood . Future research could be directed toward follow-up evaluation to assess the longevity of the observed responses

This paper relays the findings of the evaluation of an applied theatre project for children in hospital as perceived by hospital teachers. A mixed qualitative approach was used. Data were analysed using thematic analysis to explore the teachers’ views on children’s engagement with learning and the improvement of the hospital experience as a whole through applied theatre. The article presents examples of children’s stories that illustrate the findings. The study concludes that applied theatre in paediatrics can engage children with hospital tuition and learning during treatment; improve the management of emotions; help them relax and communicate with the outside world

We analysed the collected data through exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modelling. The study tested various hypotheses related to the influence of motivation, sensation-seeking, constraint, and attitude on visit intention and stage of readiness.   Findings: The results showed significant relationships between motivation and attitude, motivation and visit intention, sensation-seeking and visit intention and attitude and visit intention. However, the study did not find a significant relationship between constraint and visit intention, motivation and readiness, sensation-seeking and readiness or attitude and readiness.   Research, Practical & Social implications: This study contributes to the current knowledge of marketing folk theatres, specifically the Bharata People Puppet Theatre. The study emphasises the significance of motivation, sensation-seeking, and attitude in influencing visitors’ intentions to attend cultural performances. However, the non-significant relationships between constraint and readiness and between attitude and readiness suggest the need for a better understanding of the factors affecting visitors’ readiness to engage in cultural performances.   Originality/Value: The study provides valuable insights for theatre managers and marketers to design effective strategies to attract and engage audiences

Thalassemia is one of the top eight catastrophic diseases. Data from Yayasan Thalasemia Indonesia dan Perhimpunan Orang tua Penderita Thalasemia Indonesia (YTI/POPTI) have shown that in Indonesia the number of cases of this disease increased from 2011 to 2015. Preschool-aged children who experience thalassemia every month are subjected to invasive measures such as blood transfusions. Repeated blood transfusions make children feel threatened and can trigger various responses, one of which is anxiety. Anxiety is an emotional response to something dangerous, closely related to feeling uncertain and helpless. Puppet play therapy can reduce anxiety in children with thalassemia who undergo blood transfusions. This study aims to determine the effect of puppet play therapy on anxiety of preschool children (3-6 years) with thalassemia at the Thalassemia Polyclinic at Al-Ihsan Hospital, Bandung. The design used in this study used a quasi-experimental study with a one group pre-post test design without control approach using the Wilcoxon test. The number of samples in this study were 30 respondents who were taken by total sampling technique. The instrument used refers to the content / research theme developed from the Spence Children Anxiety Scale. The results of the Wilcoxon statistical test obtained a significance figure, namely p = 0.009, thus p <α (0.009 <0.05), then H0 is rejected. It can be concluded that there are differences in the level of anxiety of children with thalassemia before and after being given puppet play therapy.   Keywords: puppet play therapy; worry; preschool; Thalassemi
