Usually, the knowledge encapsulated in these patterns is stored in classic library repositories that quickly become overcrowded. To solve this problem, [1] proposes the use of process maps in order to organize and select them. But the completeness of the maps is a very important problem that has to be solved in order to offer a useful guidance to the method engineer.     Bracketing : a phenomenological theory applied through transpersonal reflexivity

    Purpose The purpose of this study is to improve our understanding of bracketing, one of the most central philosophical and theoretical constructs of phenomenology, as a theory of mind. Furthermore, we wanted to showcase how this theoretical construct can be implemented as a methodological tool. Design/methodology/approach In this study we have adopted an approach similar to a qualitative meta-synthesis, comparing the emergent patterns of two empirical projects, seeking synergies and contradictions, and looking for additional insights from new emerging patterns. Findings On a philosophical level, we have found that bracketing, as a theoretical construct, is not about the achievement of objectivity, quite to the contrary, it embraces subjectivity and puts it centre-stage. On a theoretical level, we have achieved a better understanding of Husserl’s phenomenology, as a theory of mind. On a methodological level, we have achieved a powerful way of supplementing and/or clarifying research findings, by using a theoretical construct as a methodological tool. Originality/value Our paper contributes to the phenomenology literature at a philosophical, theoretical and methodological level, by offering a better understanding and a novel implementation of one of the central theoretical constructs of phenomenology

    Measures of New Constructs or Old Ones? The Case of Organizational Commitment and Job Satisfaction

    The construct validity of organizational commitment has recently been investigated in several studies. The authors of these studies have concluded that organizational commitment is a valid construct, sufficiently distinct from job satisfaction. Our re-analysis of data reported in these studies, however, suggests that the construct validity evidence is unconvincing. Analysis of meta-analytic results cast further doubt on the discriminant validity of organizational commitment as typically measured. Based on these findings, suggestions for future research are offered

    PoN-S : a systematic approach for applying the Physics of Notation (PoN)

    Visual Modeling Languages (VMLs) are important instruments of communication between modelers and stakeholders. Thus, it is important to provide guidelines for designing VMLs. The most widespread approach for analyzing and designing concrete syntaxes for VMLs is the so-called Physics of Notation (PoN). PoN has been successfully applied in the analysis of several VMLs. However, despite its popularity, the application of PoN principles for designing VMLs has been limited. This paper presents a systematic approach for applying PoN in the design of the concrete syntax of VMLs. We propose here a design process establishing activities to be performed, their connection to PoN principles, as well as criteria for grouping PoN principles that guide this process.     Forecast with Forecasts: Diversity Matters

    Forecast combination has been widely applied in the last few decades to improve forecast accuracy. In recent years, the idea of using time series features to construct forecast combination model has flourished in the forecasting area. Although this idea has been proved to be beneficial in several forecast competitions such as the M3 and M4 competitions, it may not be practical in many situations. For example, the task of selecting appropriate features to build forecasting models can be a big challenge for many researchers. Even if there is one acceptable way to define the features, existing features are estimated based on the historical patterns, which are doomed to change in the future, or infeasible in the case of limited historical data. In this work, we suggest a change of focus from the historical data to the produced forecasts to extract features. We calculate the diversity of a pool of models based on the corresponding forecasts as a decisive feature and use meta-learning to construct diversity-based forecast combination models. A rich set of time series are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. Experimental results show that our diversity-based forecast combination framework not only simplifies the modelling process but also achieves superior forecasting performance.Comment: 23 pages, 4 figures, 4 table
