Tree-based Intelligent Intrusion Detection System in Internet of Vehicles
The use of autonomous vehicles (AVs) is a promising technology in Intelligent
Transportation Systems (ITSs) to improve safety and driving efficiency.
Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology enables communication among vehicles and
other infrastructures. However, AVs and Internet of Vehicles (IoV) are
vulnerable to different types of cyber-attacks such as denial of service,
spoofing, and sniffing attacks. In this paper, an intelligent intrusion
detection system (IDS) is proposed based on tree-structure machine learning
models. The results from the implementation of the proposed intrusion detection
system on standard data sets indicate that the system has the ability to
identify various cyber-attacks in the AV networks. Furthermore, the proposed
ensemble learning and feature selection approaches enable the proposed system
to achieve high detection rate and low computational cost simultaneously.Comment: Accepted in IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM) 201
Detecting the Unexpected via Image Resynthesis
Classical semantic segmentation methods, including the recent deep learning
ones, assume that all classes observed at test time have been seen during
training. In this paper, we tackle the more realistic scenario where unexpected
objects of unknown classes can appear at test time. The main trends in this
area either leverage the notion of prediction uncertainty to flag the regions
with low confidence as unknown, or rely on autoencoders and highlight
poorly-decoded regions. Having observed that, in both cases, the detected
regions typically do not correspond to unexpected objects, in this paper, we
introduce a drastically different strategy: It relies on the intuition that the
network will produce spurious labels in regions depicting unexpected objects.
Therefore, resynthesizing the image from the resulting semantic map will yield
significant appearance differences with respect to the input image. In other
words, we translate the problem of detecting unknown classes to one of
identifying poorly-resynthesized image regions. We show that this outperforms
both uncertainty- and autoencoder-based methods
Machine learning for early detection of traffic congestion using public transport traffic data
The purpose of this project is to provide better knowledge of how the bus travel times is affected by congestion and other problems in the urban traffic environment. The main source of data for this study is second-level measurements coming from all buses in the Linköping region showing the location of each vehicle. The main goal of this thesis is to propose, implement, test and optimize a machine learning algorithm based on data collected from regional buses from Sweden so that it is able to perform predictions on the future state of the urban traffic.
