An Effective chaos-based image watermarking scheme using fractal coding

    Get PDF
AbstractThe image watermarking technology is a technique of embedding hidden data in an original image. In this paper, a new watermarking method for embedding watermark bits based on Chaos-Fractal Coding is given. A chaotic signal is defined as being deterministic, pseudo periodic and presenting sensitivity to initial conditions. Combining a chaos system with Fractal Coding plays an important role in the security, invisibility and capacity of the proposed scheme. The main idea of the new proposed algorithm for coding is to determine a set of selective blocks for steady embedding. Simulation results show that the CFC algorithm (Chaos-Fractal Coding) has a confident capacity. The embedding technique that proposed in this paper is quite general, and can be applied to the extracting scheme with demanded changes

The survey of brain and medical image compression methods. Reduce the size of image as image compression. Necessity and importance of compression of an image has been discussed.  Application of the lossy compression technique is multimedia data. Various compression approaches are discussed for two categories. Also brain image compression techniques are highlighted, in addition with, quantitative comparisons between different compression methods. Also advantages and disadvantages of each method are discussed

The fractal heart — embracing mathematics in the cardiology clinic

    Get PDF
For clinicians grappling with quantifying the complex spatial and temporal patterns of cardiac structure and function (such as myocardial trabeculae, coronary microvascular anatomy, tissue perfusion, myocyte histology, electrical conduction, heart rate, and blood-pressure variability), fractal analysis is a powerful, but still underused, mathematical tool. In this Perspectives article, we explain some fundamental principles of fractal geometry and place it in a familiar medical setting. We summarize studies in the cardiovascular sciences in which fractal methods have successfully been used to investigate disease mechanisms, and suggest potential future clinical roles in cardiac imaging and time series measurements. We believe that clinical researchers can deploy innovative fractal solutions to common cardiac problems that might ultimately translate into advancements for patient care

Atherosclerotic Plaque Tissue Characterization: An OCT-Based Machine Learning Algorithm With ex vivo Validation

    Get PDF
There is a need to develop a validated algorithm for plaque characterization which can help to facilitate the standardization of optical coherence tomography (OCT) image interpretation of plaque morphology, and improve the efficiency and accuracy in the application of OCT imaging for the quantitative assessment of plaque vulnerability. In this study, a machine learning algorithm was implemented for characterization of atherosclerotic plaque components by intravascular OCT using ex vivo carotid plaque tissue samples. A total of 31 patients underwent carotid endarterectomy and the ex vivo carotid plaques were imaged with OCT. Optical parameter, texture features and relative position of pixels were extracted within the region of interest and then used to quantify the tissue characterization of plaque components. The potential of individual and combined feature set to discriminate tissue components was quantified using sensitivity, specificity, accuracy. The results show there was a lower classification accuracy in the calcified tissue than the fibrous tissue and lipid tissue. The pixel-wise classification accuracy obtained by the developed method, to characterize the fibrous, calcified and lipid tissue by comparing with histology, were 80.0, 62.0, and 83.1, respectively. The developed algorithm was capable of characterizing plaque components with an excellent accuracy using the combined feature set

Wavelets and Imaging Informatics: A Review of the Literature

AbstractModern medicine is a field that has been revolutionized by the emergence of computer and imaging technology. It is increasingly difficult, however, to manage the ever-growing enormous amount of medical imaging information available in digital formats. Numerous techniques have been developed to make the imaging information more easily accessible and to perform analysis automatically. Among these techniques, wavelet transforms have proven prominently useful not only for biomedical imaging but also for signal and image processing in general. Wavelet transforms decompose a signal into frequency bands, the width of which are determined by a dyadic scheme. This particular way of dividing frequency bands matches the statistical properties of most images very well. During the past decade, there has been active research in applying wavelets to various aspects of imaging informatics, including compression, enhancements, analysis, classification, and retrieval. This review represents a survey of the most significant practical and theoretical advances in the field of wavelet-based imaging informatics

Fractal Analysis of Microstructural and Fractograpghic Images for Evaluation of Materials

Materials have hierarchically organized complex structures at different length scales. Quantitative description of material behaviour is dependent on four fundamental length scales [1], which are of concern to materials scientists. These are (1) nano scale, 1-103 nm, (2)micro scale, 1-10 3 μm, (3) macro scale, 1-103mm, and (4) global size scale, 1-106 m. While the nano scale corresponds to, often, highly ordered atomic structures, the global size scale relates geophysical phenomena and large man made engineering structures. Micro scale and macro scale correspond to size of material samples used in laboratories, for designing and for fabrication of miniature to small machineries
