Se constata la falta de modelos de referencia para tal fin; lo que es debido, por un lado, a que la investigación en la disciplina de la dirección estratégica ha estado centrada en el análisis del desempeño económico y; por otro lado, las empresas no han dispuesto de sistemas de información contable que aportaran esta doble perspectiva.La comprobación de que el modelo poliédrico de la contabilidad social se ha implantado como sistema de cálculo en organizaciones de diferente tipo y que en algunas de ellas se empieza a utilizar en el ámbito de la estrategia, refleja un fenómeno nuevo que es necesario explorar para identificar buenas prácticas y aprendizajes que puedan trasladarse a un modelo de referencia. Por ello, hemos abordado una investigación cuya principal metodología es el estudio de caso en organizaciones referentes. Este estudio viene precedido por la revisión de la literatura relevante y por un análisis comparativo entre grupos estratégicos de empresas para valorar el alcance de la información financiera en el análisis del desempeño social.     A Qualitative Analysis of Corporate Responsibility for the Education of U.S. Citizens

    Educated and trained workers represent the primary critical success factor needed for all organizations to achieve their mission. Organizations depend on a constant flow of educated applicants competing for their jobs at any given time. Traditionally, public, private, and charter schools prepared U.S. citizens for college, trade schools, military, or university, enabling them to then compete successfully for jobs of the era. Today, a myriad of problems face these schools, including disruptive change, uninvolved parents, lack for funding, teacher unions, politics, school overcrowding, COVID-19, outdated training methods, security, race issues, and more. The result is that this education model is in decline and the flow of skilled workers into companies is affecting the United States, which risks losing its ability to compete locally and globally. Consensus that transcends party politics, religious infighting, and greedy decision-making must be reached in time to analyze this big-picture problem. The United States has reached a strategic inflection point and must respond to this disruptive change by developing creative, innovative, and state-of-the-art solutions to this problem, or she may not fulfill God’s will for this country. Companies strive to reach critical mass where they are self-sustaining, but this cannot be done without a change in how people are educated in the United States, which may require business and education to collaborate to reach the same goals, combining education and opportunity. This qualitative case study examined the problem that organizational leaders in the United States face, and specifically the challenges they encounter when strategically planning initiatives that will ensure a pool of educated, skilled, and talented workers available to their organizations now and in the future. Semi-structured interviews with the working population in Eastern Tennessee provided insights to this problem facing organizations across the spectrum

    Perceptual Model-Driven Authoring of Plausible Vibrations from User Expectations for Virtual Environments

    One of the central goals of design is the creation of experiences that are rated favorably in the intended application context. User expectations play an integral role in tactile product quality and tactile plausibility judgments alike. In the vibrotactile authoring process for virtual environments, vibra-tion is created to match the user’s expectations of the presented situational context. Currently, inefficient trial and error approaches attempt to match expectations implicitly. A more efficient, model-driven procedure based explicitly on tactile user expectations would thus be beneficial for author-ing vibrations. In everyday life, we are frequently exposed to various whole-body vibrations. Depending on their temporal and spectral proper-ties we intuitively associate specific perceptual properties such as “tin-gling”. This suggests a systematic relationship between physical parame-ters and perceptual properties. To communicate with potential users about such elicited or expected tactile properties, a standardized design language is proposed. It contains a set of sensory tactile perceptual attributes, which are sufficient to characterize the perceptual space of vibration encountered in everyday life. This design language enables the assessment of quantita-tive tactile perceptual specifications by laypersons that are elicited in situational contexts such as auditory-visual-tactile vehicle scenes. Howev-er, such specifications can also be assessed by providing only verbal de-scriptions of the content of these scenes. Quasi identical ratings observed for both presentation modes suggest that tactile user expectations can be quantified even before any vibration is presented. Such expected perceptu-al specifications are the prerequisite for a subsequent translation into phys-ical vibration parameters. Plausibility can be understood as a similarity judgment between elicited features and expected features. Thus, plausible vibration can be synthesized by maximizing the similarity of the elicited perceptual properties to the expected perceptual properties. Based on the observed relationships between vibration parameters and sensory tactile perceptual attributes, a 1-nearest-neighbor model and a regression model were built. The plausibility of the vibrations synthesized by these models in the context of virtual auditory-visual-tactile vehicle scenes was validat-ed in a perceptual study. The results demonstrated that the perceptual spec-ifications obtained with the design language are sufficient to synthesize vibrations, which are perceived as equally plausible as recorded vibrations in a given situational context. Overall, the demonstrated design method can be a new, more efficient tool for designers authoring vibrations for virtual environments or creating tactile feedback. Gegenwärtig versucht man im vibrotaktilen Authoring-Prozess mit ineffizienten Trial-and-Error-Verfahren, die Erwartungen an den dargestellten, virtuellen Situationskontext implizit zu erfüllen. Ein effizienteres, modellgetriebenes Verfahren, das explizit auf den taktilen Benutzererwartungen basiert, wäre daher von Vorteil. Im Alltag sind wir häufig verschiedenen Ganzkörper-schwingungen ausgesetzt. Abhängig von ihren zeitlichen und spektralen Eigenschaften assoziieren wir intuitiv bestimmte Wahrnehmungsmerkmale wie z.B. “kribbeln”. Dies legt eine systematische Beziehung zwischen physikalischen Parametern und Wahrnehmungsmerkmalen nahe. Um mit potentiellen Nutzern über hervorgerufene oder erwartete taktile Eigen-schaften zu kommunizieren, wird eine standardisierte Designsprache vor-geschlagen. Sie enthält eine Menge von sensorisch-taktilen Wahrneh-mungsmerkmalen, die hinreichend den Wahrnehmungsraum der im Alltag auftretenden Vibrationen charakterisieren. Diese Entwurfssprache ermög-licht die quantitative Beurteilung taktiler Wahrnehmungsmerkmale, die in Situationskontexten wie z.B. auditiv-visuell-taktilen Fahrzeugszenen her-vorgerufen werden. Solche Wahrnehmungsspezifikationen können jedoch auch bewertet werden, indem der Inhalt dieser Szenen verbal beschrieben wird. Quasi identische Bewertungen für beide Präsentationsmodi deuten darauf hin, dass die taktilen Benutzererwartungen quantifiziert werden können, noch bevor eine Vibration präsentiert wird. Die erwarteten Wahr-nehmungsspezifikationen sind die Voraussetzung für eine anschließende Übersetzung in physikalische Schwingungsparameter. Plausible Vibratio-nen können synthetisiert werden, indem die erwarteten Wahrnehmungs-merkmale hervorgerufen werden. Auf der Grundlage der beobachteten Beziehungen zwischen Schwingungs¬parametern und sensorisch-taktilen Wahrnehmungsmerkmalen wurden ein 1-Nearest-Neighbor-Modell und ein Regressionsmodell erstellt. Die Plausibilität der von diesen Modellen synthetisierten Schwingungen im Kontext virtueller, auditorisch-visuell-taktiler Fahrzeugszenen wurde in einer Wahrnehmungsstudie validiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass die mit der Designsprache gewonnenen Wahr-nehmungsspezifikationen ausreichen, um Schwingungen zu synthetisieren, die in einem gegebenen Situationskontext als ebenso plausibel empfunden werden wie aufgezeichnete Schwingungen.     The Self The Soul and The World: Affect Reason and Complexity

    This book looks at the affective-cognitive roots of how the human mind inquires into the workings of nature and, more generally, how the mind confronts reality. Reality is an infinitely complex system, in virtue of which the mind can comprehend it only in bits and pieces, by making up interpretations of the myriads of signals received from the world by way of integrating those with information stored from the past. This constitutes a piecemeal interpretation by which we assemble our phenomenal reality. In perceiving the complex world and responding to it, the mind invokes the logic of affect and the logic of reason, the former mostly innate and implicit, and the latter generated consciously in explicit terms with reference to mind-independent relations between entities in nature. It is a strange combination of affect and reason that enables us to make decisions and inferences, --- the latter mostly of the inductive type --- thereby making possible the development of theories. Theories are our tool-kits for explaining and predicting phenomena, guiding us along in our journey in life. Theories, however, are defeasible, and need to be constantly updated, at times even radically. In this, the self and the soul are of enormous relevance. The former is the affect-based psychological engine driving all our mental processes, while the latter is the capacity of the conscious mind to examine and reconstruct the self by modulating repressed conflicts. If the soul remains inoperative, all our theories become misdirected and a rot spreads inexorably all around us

    The Effects of Sin Taxes and Advertising Restrictions in a Dynamic Equilibrium

    We develop a dynamic equilibrium model of rm competition to study the impact of counterfactual policies, such as taxes and advertising restrictions, on pricing, advertising, consumption and welfare. ;We estimate the model using micro level data on the market for colas. We use consumer level exposure to television commercials to estimate the impact of advertising on product choice, model rms' dynamic competition through their choice of advertising budgets and product prices, and exploit rms' practice of delegating decisions over advertising slots to agencies to link the rich consumer-level advertising variation with rms' strategic choice variables. We show that a sugar- sweetened beverage tax leads to a reduction in advertising and that the incremental eects of implementing advertising restrictions are substantially reduced with a tax in place

    Ludology as a theoretical lens for interactive works: Demonstrating the theoretical gaps in copyright analysis of interactive works

    This research argues that without the appropriate category or lexicon to address interactive creations and with their assessment by analogy, interactive creations are improperly protected by copyright. They are over-under protected, their infringement decisions incoherent, inconsistent, and are protected in ways which entirely overlook their distinct and unique characteristics as an expressive medium. Drawing the boundaries of protection already proves difficult for copyright, owing to flaws and shortcomings with its principles and subject matter categorization. Which in part is why copyright struggles to protect interactive creations. However, it is contended that interactive creations present further difficulties which emerge by virtue of their interactivity. It is argued that this interactivity leads them to present significant practical and conceptual questions which copyright is ill equipped to answer. And whilst the existing academic commentary does highlight the challenges facing interactive creations, it does not do so in a way that meaningfully or specifically addresses interactive creations as a distinct medium, nor does it consider their unique qualities. To that end, this thesis argues that video game scholarship presents a helpful foundation for understanding how a more accurate ontology for interactive works might be constructed. It is contended that video game studies and ludology, can provide insights on what these neglected qualities are, as well as potential frameworks and vocabulary for more appropriately understanding and structuring these concepts. Arguing that ludology and the concepts proposed by the ludologist Frasca provide a clearer analytical lens for assessing the distinct and novel expressive capabilities of the medium.     A Transfer Principle: Universal Approximators Between Metric Spaces From Euclidean Universal Approximators

    We build universal approximators of continuous maps between arbitrary Polish metric spaces X\mathcal{X} and Y\mathcal{Y} using universal approximators between Euclidean spaces as building blocks. Earlier results assume that the output space Y\mathcal{Y} is a topological vector space. We overcome this limitation by "randomization": our approximators output discrete probability measures over Y\mathcal{Y}. When X\mathcal{X} and Y\mathcal{Y} are Polish without additional structure, we prove very general qualitative guarantees; when they have suitable combinatorial structure, we prove quantitative guarantees for H\"older-like maps, including maps between finite graphs, solution operators to rough differential equations between certain Carnot groups, and continuous non-linear operators between Banach spaces arising in inverse problems. In particular, we show that the required number of Dirac measures is determined by the combinatorial structure of X\mathcal{X} and Y\mathcal{Y}. For barycentric Y\mathcal{Y}, including Banach spaces, R\mathbb{R}-trees, Hadamard manifolds, or Wasserstein spaces on Polish metric spaces, our approximators reduce to Y\mathcal{Y}-valued functions.     Producing Affection : Affect and Mediated Intimacy in Pokémon

    Pokémon is a global multimedia franchise formed around a core series of videogames and a variety of characters to collect, learn about, and play with. Throughout its decades of development, Pokémon has grown into a media mix comprising of digital and analog games, animations, comics, toys, and a plethora of branded merchandize, all centering on the Pokémon characters and the audience’s relationship with them. In this thesis, I explore how affection is formed and distributed in Pokémon. I view the relationship with Pokémon characters as a form of mediated intimacy, theorizing it as feelings of affection and closeness expressed through and aimed at technology. Through this, I discuss how technological and fantastical bodies wield agency and actively participate in the formation of everyday affects. By drawing primarily on game studies and affect studies, I develop an interdisciplinary method for playing and reading media texts for their affects and use it to analyze the media mix of Pokémon and the affective relations therein. I focus primarily on the Pokémon videogames that serve as the core product of the entire media mix. I examine what it means to construct an entire media mix based on videogames and play and suggest this as a key interpretive arrangement for understanding the mediated intimacy of Pokémon. This study presents the mediated intimacy of Pokémon as the result of the ludic and technological foundations of the Pokémon media mix, at the heart of which is the role-playing form of the original videogames and the way they have positioned audiences as participants and characters in the world of Pokémon. In this playful environment that overlaps fiction and everyday reality, the media mix guides its players to conduct a form of affective labor to access and traverse the textual whole of Pokémon and furthermore aligns this effort with the diegetic theme of caretaking as captured on the transmedia bodies of Pokémon. Additionally, this work contributes to the theorization and rethinking of intimacies by exploring affection in human and non-human networks as an entanglement of biological and technological actors.Tuotettua kiintymystä. Väitöskirjassani tarkastelen, miten kiintymystä rakennetaan ja levitetään Pokémonissa. Tutkin Pokémon-hahmoihin muodostettuja suhteita medioidun intiimiyden käsitteen kautta. Tutkimuksessani suhteet näyttäytyvät kiintymyksellisten tunteiden tiivistyminä sekä läheisyytenä, jota ilmaistaan teknologian avulla ja sitä kohtaan. Näin tarkastelen, miten teknologisten sekä fantastisten kehojen toimijuus näkyy arkipäiväisten affektien muodostumisessa. Ammentamalla pelitutkimuksesta ja affektitutkimuksesta kehitän monitieteisen metodin mediatekstien pelaamiseen ja lukemiseen, ja käytän sitä Pokémonin media mixin, sen affektien ja sen piirissä muodostettujen kiintymyssuhteiden analysointiin. Keskityn erityisesti Pokémon-videopeleihin, jotka toimivat koko media mixin ydintuotteena. Tutkin, miten Pokémonin media mix on rakennettu ensisijaisesti pelilliselle ja leikilliselle pohjalle, ja ehdotan tätä tulkintamallia keskeiseksi Pokémonin medioidun intiimiyden ymmärtämiselle. Tutkimuksen tuloksena esitän Pokémonin medioidun intiimiyden muodostuvan Pokémonin media mixin leikillisistä ja teknologisista juurista, joiden perustana on alkuperäisten Pokémon-videopelien roolipelillinen rakenne sekä se, miten sen avulla pelaajat on asemoitu hahmoiksi Pokémonin maailmaan. Fiktiota ja todellisuutta sekoittavassa leikillisessä ympäristössä Pokémonin media mix ohjaa pelaajia hoivan ja huolenpidon teemojen kautta tekemään tunnetyötä tuoteperheen mediatekstien parissa ja piirtää tämän työn tulokset Pokémon-hahmojen monimediakehoille. Lisäksi väitöstutkimukseni osallistuu intiimiyden laajempaan teoretisointiin ja uudelleenmäärittelyyn tarkastelemalla elollisten ja leikillisesti elävien toimijoiden suhteita biologisena ja teknologisena yhteenliittymän
