Representations of the quantum doubles of finite group algebras and solutions of the Yang--Baxter equation
Quantum doubles of finite group algebras form a class of quasi-triangular
Hopf algebras which algebraically solve the Yang--Baxter equation. Each
representation of the quantum double then gives a matrix solution of the
Yang--Baxter equation. Such solutions do not depend on a spectral parameter,
and to date there has been little investigation into extending these solutions
such that they do depend on a spectral parameter. Here we first explicitly
construct the matrix elements of the generators for all irreducible
representations of quantum doubles of the dihedral groups . These results
may be used to determine constant solutions of the Yang--Baxter equation. We
then discuss Baxterisation ans\"atze to obtain solutions of the Yang--Baxter
equation with spectral parameter and give several examples, including a new
21-vertex model. We also describe this approach in terms of minimal-dimensional
representations of the quantum doubles of the alternating group and the
symmetric group .Comment: 19 pages, no figures, changed introduction, added reference

Quantum Doubles and Anyonic Systems
This master's thesis is divided in three main parts. In the first part, we present the two fundamental transformations between anyons, Flux metamorphosis and Aharonov-Bohm effect. We introduce the braid group, its defining relations and its representation via the quantum double. Then, we construct the quantum double for the dihedral group D5, specify the modular generators of the theory (S and T matrices) and give a simple example of anyon scattering. In the second part, we focus on the quantum computational aspect of groups/models, with the goal to derive universal quantum computation. We define the encoding of a qubit in the fusion space and then we construct the generators of the braid group for various anyon models, including D(D5). We establish general protocols of encoding and processing information with anyons, one using F and R-symbols as well as the fusion rules and another one with pairs of fluxes. We work with Fibonacci and Ising anyon models, where the former is considered as the ideal model for computing. We also point out the difficulty to construct known gates inside D(D5). In the third and final part, we give two examples of universal quantum computation, one with qutrit encoding in D(S3) and another one using pair of fluxes with simple perfect groups. We note in the conclusions that dihedral anyons have the potential of constructing a universal gate set but the way to illustrate this is beyond the purpose of this thesis
Universal quantum gates Via Yang-baxterization of dihedral quantum double
The recently discovered Yang-Baxterization process for the quantum double of the dihedral group algebra, is presented keeping on mind the quantum computation. The products resultant from Yang-Baxterization process are interpreted as universal quantum gates using the Bryslinski's theorem. Results are obtained for two-qubits and two-qutrits gates. Using the Zhang-Kauffman-Ge method (ZKGM), certain Hamiltonians responsible for the quantum evolution of the quantum gates are obtained. Possible physical systems such as anyons systems are mentioned as referents for practical implementation. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007
