Analysis of Coverage Region for MIMO Relay Network with Multiple Cooperative DF-Relays
We study and analyze coverage region in MIMO communication systems for a
multiple-relay network with decode-and-forward (DF) strategy at the relays.
Assuming that there is a line-of-sight (LOS) propagation environment for
source-relay channels and channel state information is available at receivers
(CSIR), we consider the objective of maximizing coverage region for a given
transmission rate and show numerically the significant effect of propagation
environment on capacity bounds, optimal relay location and coverage region.
Also, we study the situation in which two adjacent relays cooperate in
transmission signals to the destination and show analytically that the coverage
region is extended compared to noncooperative scenario.Comment: Accepted for publication in International Symposium on Wireless

Performance analysis of mixed Nakagami- m and Gamma–Gamma dual-hop FSO transmission systems
In this paper, we carry out a unified performance analysis of a dual-hop relay system over the asymmetric links composed of both radio-frequency (RF) and unified free-space optical (FSO) links under the effect of pointing errors. Both fixed and variable gain relay systems are studied. The RF link is modeled by the Nakagami-m fading channel and the FSO link by the Gamma-Gamma fading channel subject to both types of detection techniques (i.e., heterodyne detection and intensity modulation with direct detection). In particular, we derive new unified closed-form expressions for the cumulative distribution function, the probability density function, the moment generating function (MGF), and the moments of the end-to-end signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of these systems in terms of the Meijer's G function. Based on these formulas, we offer exact closed-form expressions for the outage probability (OP), the higher order amount of fading, and the average bit error rate (BER) of a variety of binary modulations in terms of the Meijer's G function. Furthermore, an exact closed-form expression of the end-to-end ergodic capacity is derived in terms of the bivariate G function. Additionally, by using the asymptotic expansion of the Meijer's G function at the high-SNR regime, we derive new asymptotic results for the OP, the MGF, and the average BER in terms of simple elementary functions
Power Allocation in Two-Hop Amplify-and-Forward MIMO Relay Systems with QoS requirements
The problem of minimizing the total power consumption while satisfying
different quality-of-service (QoS) requirements in a two-hop multiple-input
multiple-output network with a single non-regenerative relay is considered. As
shown by Y. Rong in [1], the optimal processing matrices for both linear and
non-linear transceiver architectures lead to the diagonalization of the
source-relay-destination channel so that the power minimization problem reduces
to properly allocating the available power over the established links.
Unfortunately, finding the solution of this problem is numerically difficult as
it is not in a convex form. To overcome this difficulty, existing solutions
rely on the computation of upper- and lower-bounds that are hard to obtain or
require the relaxation of the QoS constraints. In this work, a novel approach
is devised for both linear and non-linear transceiver architectures, which
allows to closely approximate the solutions of the non-convex power allocation
problems with those of convex ones easy to compute in closed-form by means of
multi-step procedures of reduced complexity. Computer simulations are used to
assess the performance of the proposed approach and to make comparisons with
alternatives
Enabling non-linear energy harvesting in power domain based multiple access in relaying networks: Outage and ergodic capacity performance analysis
The Power Domain-based Multiple Access (PDMA) scheme is considered as one kind of Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) in green communications and can support energy-limited devices by employing wireless power transfer. Such a technique is known as a lifetime-expanding solution for operations in future access policy, especially in the deployment of power-constrained relays for a three-node dual-hop system. In particular, PDMA and energy harvesting are considered as two communication concepts, which are jointly investigated in this paper. However, the dual-hop relaying network system is a popular model assuming an ideal linear energy harvesting circuit, as in recent works, while the practical system situation motivates us to concentrate on another protocol, namely non-linear energy harvesting. As important results, a closed-form formula of outage probability and ergodic capacity is studied under a practical non-linear energy harvesting model. To explore the optimal system performance in terms of outage probability and ergodic capacity, several main parameters including the energy harvesting coefficients, position allocation of each node, power allocation factors, and transmit signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are jointly considered. To provide insights into the performance, the approximate expressions for the ergodic capacity are given. By matching analytical and Monte Carlo simulations, the correctness of this framework can be examined. With the observation of the simulation results, the figures also show that the performance of energy harvesting-aware PDMA systems under the proposed model can satisfy the requirements in real PDMA applications.Web of Science87art. no. 81
MIMO Networks: the Effects of Interference
Multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) systems promise enormous capacity
increase and are being considered as one of the key technologies for future
wireless networks. However, the decrease in capacity due to the presence of
interferers in MIMO networks is not well understood. In this paper, we develop
an analytical framework to characterize the capacity of MIMO communication
systems in the presence of multiple MIMO co-channel interferers and noise. We
consider the situation in which transmitters have no information about the
channel and all links undergo Rayleigh fading. We first generalize the known
determinant representation of hypergeometric functions with matrix arguments to
the case when the argument matrices have eigenvalues of arbitrary multiplicity.
This enables the derivation of the distribution of the eigenvalues of Gaussian
quadratic forms and Wishart matrices with arbitrary correlation, with
application to both single user and multiuser MIMO systems. In particular, we
derive the ergodic mutual information for MIMO systems in the presence of
multiple MIMO interferers. Our analysis is valid for any number of interferers,
each with arbitrary number of antennas having possibly unequal power levels.
This framework, therefore, accommodates the study of distributed MIMO systems
and accounts for different positions of the MIMO interferers.Comment: Submitted to IEEE Trans. on Info. Theor
