THE role of the technology acceptance model in information systems research: a case study
Explaining the factors that lead to use and acceptance of information technology (IT), both at individual and organizational levels, has been the focus of information systems (IS) researchers since 1970s. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is known as such an explanatory model and has increasingly gained recognition due to its focus on theories of human behaviour. Although this model has faced with some criticism in terms of not being able to fully explain the social-technical acceptance of technology, it is still known as one of the best IS methodologies that contributes greatly to explaining it. This paper discusses, describes and explains TAM as one of the well-known information system research methodologies and attempts to demonstrate how this model can be applied in practice in IS research projects. TAM is widely used in different areas of IS studies such as e-commerce, e-business, multimedia and mobile commerce. This paper shows how TAM can be applied in an IS research project by referring to a case study conducted in the area of mobile banking in the UK. This paper aims to contribute to IS research by providing an informed criticism of TAM as well as a clear proposal on how to use it
The State of e-Banking Implementation in Nigeria: A Post-Consolidation Review
The most widely used e-Banking instrument in �igeria is e-Payment, particularly the automatic teller machine
(ATM) card. However, with the adoption of e-Banking by all the banks in �igeria, the volume of cash in circulation
has continued to increase pre-and-post bank recapitalization/consolidation exercise. Furthermore, some of the 25 banks that survived the exercise were found lately to have depleted their capital base and have lost credibility before the consumers, e-Banking implementation notwithstanding.
Therefore, in this paper, we review the state of e-Banking implementation in �igeria and evaluate the influence of
trust on the adoption of e-Payment using an extended technology acceptance model (TAM). Similarly, we
investigate organizational reputation, perceived risk and perceived trust in the management of banks as a factor for
enhancing customer loyalty.
The findings in this work reveal that perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness are not only antecedent to ebanking
acceptance, they are also factors to retain customers to the use of e-banking system such as organizational
reputation, perceived risk and trust

Determinants of social and institutional beliefs about internet acceptance within developing country’s context: A structural evaluation of higher education systems in Pakistan
This study aims to extend a model of technology acceptance to suit in developing country’s context.
The model attempts to identify relationship between social and institutional factors over behavioural
intention and usage. Recently, ‘acceptance and adoption of information technology (IT) in
multicultural setting’ is becoming topic of interest for IS researchers. In this line, numerous theories
and models are proposed to contribute in examining factors of IT acceptance and reluctance. It is
argued that the models in published literature are found culturally biased, which successfully present
results in only American and European context, however, their validity became questionable when
they were tested in south Asian countries context. Additionally, lack of research is observed to predict
individual’s cognitive behaviour of acceptance, which are influenced by social factors (i.e. peer
influence and superior influence, voluntariness, experience) and institutional factors (i.e. local
institutional management influence and top-level governmental policies influence). This study used
Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) based on Partial Least Square (PLS) method to analyse the
data. The results reveal that the proposed conceptual model achieves acceptable fit and the
hypothesised paths are valid
Semantic discovery and reuse of business process patterns
Patterns currently play an important role in modern information systems (IS) development and their use has mainly been restricted to the design and implementation phases of the development lifecycle. Given the increasing significance of business modelling in IS development, patterns have the potential of providing a viable solution for promoting reusability of recurrent generalized models in the very early stages of development. As a statement of research-in-progress this paper focuses on business process patterns and proposes an initial methodological framework for the discovery and reuse of business process patterns within the IS development lifecycle. The framework borrows ideas from the domain engineering literature and proposes the use of semantics to drive both the discovery of patterns as well as their reuse
What role does corporate governance play in the intention to use cloud computing technology?
This paper aims to investigate the factors which promote the adoption of cloud-based technology. It strives for a better understanding of the impact of corporate governance on the adoption of this technology. This study concentrated on executives in companies where the use of cloud computing may give a competitive advantage. The main contribution of this work is to propose a model for the influence of corporate governance and other factors that determine the adoption of this technology. A questionnaire was prepared after taking into consideration the reviewed literature. The sample consisted of 164 technology companies from Southern Spain that already use the new economic models for digital solutions. The methodology used to analyze the structural model was the Structural Equation Model (SEM). The results of the survey showed the influence of Corporate Governance and the procedures and practices of the organization on the adoption of cloud computing and the associated business model. This study aims to point out the importance of corporate support and Knowledge Management for the correct and successful adoption of this technology and to show the effects on the new business model of billing for the use of available resources. The Impact Of Technology Trust On The Acceptance Of Mobile Banking Technology Within Nigeria
With advancement in the use of information technology seen as a key factor in economic development, developed countries are increasingly reviewing traditional systems, in various sectors such as education, health, transport and finance, and identifying how they may be improved or replaced with automated systems. In this study, the authors examine the role of technology trust in the acceptance of mobile banking in Nigeria as the country attempts to transition into a cashless economy. For Nigeria, like many other countries, its economic growth is linked, at least in part, to its improvement in information technology infrastructure, as well as establishing secure, convenient and reliable payments systems. Utilising the Technology Acceptance Model, this study investigates causal relationships between technology trust and other factors influencing user’s intention to adopt technology; focusing on the impact of seven factors contributing to technology trust. Data from 1725 respondents was analysed using confirmatory factor analysis and the results showed that confidentiality, integrity, authentication, access control, best business practices and non-repudiation significantly influenced technology trust. Technology trust showed a direct significant influence on perceived ease of use and usefulness, a direct influence on intention to use as well as an indirect influence on intention to use through its impact on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Furthermore, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness showed significant influence on consumer’s intention to adopt the technology. With mobile banking being a key driver of Nigeria’s cashless economy goals, this study provides quantitative knowledge regarding technology trust and adoption behaviour in Nigeria as well as significant insight on areas where policy makers and mobile banking vendors can focus strategies engineered to improve trust in mobile banking and increase user adoption of their technology
Innovation attributes and managers' decisions about the adoption of innovations in organizations: A meta-analytical review
The adoption of innovations has emerged as a dominant research topic in the management of innovation in organizations, although investigations often yield mixed results. To help managers and researchers improve their effectiveness, the authors employed a meta-analysis integrated with structural equation modeling to analyze the associations between the attributes of innovations, managers' behavioral preferences, and organizations' innovation adoption decisions in a mediated-moderated framework. Our findings offer evidence that attributes of innovations influence managers' behavioral preferences and, consequently, adoption decisions in organizations. We also observe the significance of the context in which the adoption decision occurs as well as the research settings employed by scholars. Finally, we discuss the theoretical contribution and practical implications of our meta-analytical results
Don’t throw rocks from the side-lines: A sociomaterial exploration of organizational blogs as boundary objects
Purpose
Social media such as blogs are being widely used in organizations in order to undertake internal communication and share knowledge, rendering them important boundary objects. A root metaphor of the boundary object domain is the notion of relatively static and inert objects spanning similarly static boundaries. A strong sociomaterial perspective allows the immisciblity of object and boundary to be challenged, since a key tenet of this perspective is the ongoing and mutually-constituted performance of the material and social.
Design/methodology/approach
The aim of our research is to draw upon sociomateriality to explore the operation of social media platforms as intra-organizational boundary objects. Given the novel perspective of this study and its social constructivist ontology, we adopt an exploratory, interpretivist research design. This is operationalized as a case study of the use of an organizational blog by a major UK government department over an extended period. A novel aspect of the study is our use of data released under a Freedom of Information request.
Findings
We present three exemplar instances of how the blog and organizational boundaries were performed in the situated practice of the case study organization. We draw on literature on boundary objects, blogs and sociomateriality in order to provide a theoretical explication of the mutually-constituted performance of the blog and organizational boundaries. We also invoke the notion of ‘extended chains of intra-action’ to theorise changes in the wider organization.
Originality/value
Adoption of a sociomaterial lens provides a highly novel perspective of boundary objects and organizational boundaries. The study highlights the indeterminate and dynamic nature of boundary objects and boundaries, with both being in an intra-active state of becoming, challenging conventional conceptions. The study demonstrates that specific material-discursive practices arising from the situated practice of the blog at the respective boundaries were performative, reconfiguring the blog and boundaries and being generative of further changes in the organization
