The predictor impact of Web Search and Social Media
In recent years, web search and social media have emerged online. Search engine technology has
had to speed up to keep up with the growth of the World Wide Web, that has turned the Internet into
a wide information space with different and badly managed content. Millions of people all over the
world search online several information each day, which makes Web search queries a valuable
source of information. Due to the huge amount of available information, searching has become
dominant in the use of Internet. Users that daily interact with search engines, produce valuable
sources of interesting data regarding several aspects of the world.
Social media increasingly pervades life in several fields of the world, enabling communication
among users and collecting massive amount of information for social media companies that want to
refine their products. Popular services like Twitter and Facebook attract a lot of users who share
facts of their daily life. This kind of content has become more present on the web and, due to its
public nature, even appears in search results from search engines, like Google and Bing. With the
explosion of user generated content, came the need by politicians, analysts, researcher to monitor
the content of different users.
During my PhD, I decided to investigate whether social media activity or information collected by
web search media could be profitable and used for predictive purposes. I studied whether some
relationship exists between particular phenomena and volume of search data, considering the
examined topic on web engines. Then, I analyzed the related social volume in order to discover
whether the chatter of the community can be used to make qualitative predictions about the
considered phenomena, attempting to establish whether there is any correlation.
Simultaneously, I decided to apply automated Sentiment Analysis on shared short messages of users
on Twitter in order to automatically analyze people opinions, sentiments, evaluations and attitude
An Exploratory Study of Automated Tools to Support SCRUM-Based Project Management in Agile Software Development Teams
The growing use of Agile Methodologies for project management has led many organizations to utilize agile-based project management tools. This thesis explores areas for improvement in project management tools for software development teams using the Scrum methodology. A qualitative research method was used to gain insight on the users\u27 satisfaction and possible new utilities to create that would complement the OnTime Scrum project management tool. This paper further describes the methods and experiences encountered in the designing and implementation of a Work Breakdown Structure website tool that was selected as a utility to support project management
Reviewable - Online review web application for the international English-language market
This report presents the development of an online review web application for the International English Language Market. While in Ireland this industry contributes hugely to the Irish economy, the few regulations on the sector caused a wave of closures from 2014 to 2016. Several specific aspects of this industry that have contributed to this situation, such as the fact that most hiring student are of non-EEA origin (which includes specific Immigration arrangements for this group) justifies the relevance of an online review tool. This project discusses alternatives for establishing trust in the sector through validation, while presents concerning topics surrounding the project theme as well such as the General Data Protection Regulation. Technical development aspects of the application are covered including the relevance of tools and technologies used as well as decisions in the business logic of the system and further refinement of the problem addressed through the use of interviews
IDEASPARK.MY: UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IDEAS VIABILITY PLATFORM
Entrepreneurship has become very crucial to every country ever since the age of globalization due to the growth of entrepreneurial activities that will result in creating jobs for the society, as well as reducing the unemployment rate. Many fresh graduates especially non business students they have the intention to becoming entrepreneur and starting-up own business, however, most of them failed to become one. It may be due to lack of guidance on how to become a successful entrepreneur and lack of awareness on available platform where they could explore more into issues and available programs related to Startup. Even though many students do possess creative and innovative project throughout their studies but they are not aware and expose to the extendibility and viability of their ideas as business prospect. Therefore, in order to help to control this issue, IDEASPARK.MY, crowdsourcing platform specifically for students to validate their project ideas as a viable business prospects. This platform is to provide entrepreneurs with a kick start market validation of their ideas and entrepreneurial pathway of one’s should face to become a successful entrepreneur
Principles in Patterns (PiP) : Institutional Approaches to Curriculum Design Institutional Story
The principal outputs of the PiP Project surround the Course and Class Approval (C-CAP) system. This web-based system built on Microsoft SharePoint addresses and resolves many of the issues identified by the project. Generally well received by both academic and support staff, the system provides personalised views, adaptive forms and contextualised support for all phases of the approval process. Although the system deliberately encapsulates and facilitates existing approval processes thus achieving buy-in, it is already achieving significant improvements over the previous processes, not only in reducing the administrative overheads but also in supporting curriculum design and academic quality. The system is now embedded across three faculties and is now considered by the University of Strathclyde to be a "core institutional service". Alongside the C-CAP system the PiP Project also cultivated a suite of approaches: an incremental systems development methodology; a structured and replicable evaluation approach, and; Strathclyde's Lean Approach to Efficiencies in Education Kit (SLEEK) business process improvement methodology Each is based on recognised formal techniques, providing the basis for a rigorous approach. This is contextualised within and adapted to the HE institutional context thus building the foundation not only for the project but ultimately for institution wide process improvement. This "institutional story" report summarises the principal outcomes of the Project
Understanding the Business Value of Social Information Systems – A Research Agenda
The creation of value by social information systems has been confirmed by recent studies. However, few is known about the mechanisms that create value in so-cial information systems. Therefore, this article investi-gates how social information systems create value. We analyze which and how these value-creating interac-tions appear in different types of social information systems. Based on a literature review, we identify four emergent interactions in social information systems that create value: social production, co-creation, weak ties, and egalitarian decisions. Using our findings, we develop a research agenda to further explore the value creation mechanisms of social information systems
Virtuality's Influence on the Process of Performing Information Systems Development: A case of a software organization
Organizations in all sectors have been utilizing virtual teams and virtual technologies for projects, making use of geographically dispersed human capital. Other forms of virtual working such as work-from-home, remote-work and telecommuting have also been implemented by organizations, often to a few employees usually over a small period of time and not applicable to the full organization. The transitioning from a collocated environment to a virtual context induced by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) had an effect on the process of performing Information Systems Development (ISD). The objectives of the study are: RO1: Explain how virtuality influences the process of doing ISD projects inside the IS Industry. RO1a: Explain how virtuality influences the execution of ISD activities inside the IS Industry. RO1 b: Explain how virtuality influences the assessment of ISD projects inside the IS Industry. RO2: Identify how organizations can improve ISD when working in a virtual context. This study employed a single case study of a technology company that recently transitioned from a collocated context to a full remote context. Data was collected through seventeen semi-structured interviews and secondary documents. Thematic analysis was employed to explain virtuality's influence on performing ISD and assessing ISD outcomes. A modified Systems Development as Performing (sd-as-p) conceptual model was utilized as a guide for this study's data collection process. A literature-derived sd-as-p conceptual model was developed made up of the following processes of performing ISD, namely leading; communicating; collaborating; knowing; developing with agility; dealing with challenges; trusting; assessing achievements and the enactment of virtuality. The study explained how virtuality influences the processes of performing ISD. Subthemes of the processes of performing ISD were identified resulting in the modification of the initial literature-derived sd-as-p model. Components that enhance the performing of ISD in a virtual context were found to be people, tools, processes, and virtual culture
Fake News on COVID-19 Detector, CovFaq
