    Get PDF
AbstractIn order to model fuzzy decentralized decision-making problem, fuzzy expected value multilevel programming and chance-constrained multilevel programming are introduced. Furthermore, fuzzy simulation, neural network, and genetic algorithm are integrated to produce a hybrid intelligent algorithm for finding the Stackelberg-Nash equilibrium. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the hybrid intelligent algorithm

Numerical Methods for PDE Constrained Optimization with Uncertain Data

Optimization problems governed by partial differential equations (PDEs) arise in many applications in the form of optimal control, optimal design, or parameter identification problems. In most applications, parameters in the governing PDEs are not deterministic, but rather have to be modeled as random variables or, more generally, as random fields. It is crucial to capture and quantify the uncertainty in such problems rather than to simply replace the uncertain coefficients with their mean values. However, treating the uncertainty adequately and in a computationally tractable manner poses many mathematical challenges. The numerical solution of optimization problems governed by stochastic PDEs builds on mathematical subareas, which so far have been largely investigated in separate communities: Stochastic Programming, Numerical Solution of Stochastic PDEs, and PDE Constrained Optimization. The workshop achieved an impulse towards cross-fertilization of those disciplines which also was the subject of several scientific discussions. It is to be expected that future exchange of ideas between these areas will give rise to new insights and powerful new numerical methods

Nonparametric frontier estimation from noisy data

    Get PDF
A new nonparametric estimator of production frontiers is defined and studied when the data set of production units is contaminated by measurement error. The measurement error is assumed to be an additive normal random variable on the input variable, but its variance is unknown. The estimator is a modification of the m-frontier, which necessitates the computation of a consistent estimator of the conditional survival function of the input variable given the output variable. In this paper, the identification and the consistency of a new estimator of the survival function is proved in the presence of additive noise with unknown variance. The performance of the estimator is also studied through simulated data.production frontier, deconvolution, measurement error, efficiency analysis

Multi-Period Asset Allocation: An Application of Discrete Stochastic Programming

    Get PDF
The issue of modeling farm financial decisions in a dynamic framework is addressed in this paper. Discrete stochastic programming is used to model the farm portfolio over the planning period. One of the main issues of discrete stochastic programming is representing the uncertainty of the data. The development of financial scenario generation routines provides a method to model the stochastic nature of the model. In this paper, two approaches are presented for generating scenarios for a farm portfolio problem. The approaches are based on copulas and optimization. The copula method provides an alternative to the multivariate normal assumption. The optimization method generates a number of discrete outcomes which satisfy specified statistical properties by solving a non-linear optimization model. The application of these different scenario generation methods is then applied to the topic of geographical diversification. The scenarios model the stochastic nature of crop returns and land prices in three separate geographic regions. The results indicate that the optimal diversification strategy is sensitive to both scenario generation method and initial acreage assumptions. The optimal diversification results are presented using both scenario generation methods.Agribusiness, Agricultural Finance, Farm Management,
