Ubiquitous Internet in an integrated satellite-terrestrial environment: The SUITED solution
yesThe current Internet architecture appears to
not be particularly suited to addressing the
emerging needs of new classes of users who wish
to gain access to multimedia services made available
by ISPs, regardless of their location, while
in motion and with a guaranteed level of quality.
One of the main objectives of so-called nextgeneration
systems is to overcome the limitations
of todayÂżs available Internet by adopting an
approach based on the integration of different
mobile and fixed networks. The SUITED project
moves in this direction since it aims at contributing
to the design and deployment of the global
mobile broadband system (GMBS), a unique
satellite/terrestrial infrastructure ensuring
nomadic users access to Internet services with a
negotiated QoS. A description of the main features
of the GMBS architecture, characterized
by the integration of a multisegment access network
with a federated ISP network is given in

Investigation of an intelligent personalised service recommendation system in an IMS based cellular mobile network
Success or failure of future information and communication services in general and mobile communications in particular is greatly dependent on the level of personalisations they can offer. While the provision of anytime, anywhere, anyhow services has been the focus of wireless telecommunications in recent years, personalisation however has gained more and more attention as the unique selling point of mobile devices. Smart phones should be intelligent enough to match userâs unique needs and preferences to provide a truly personalised service tailored for the individual user.
In the first part of this thesis, the importance and role of personalisation in future mobile networks is studied. This is followed, by an agent based futuristic user scenario that addresses the provision of rich data services independent of location. Scenario analysis identifies the requirements and challenges to be solved for the realisation of a personalised service. An architecture based on IP Multimedia Subsystem is proposed for mobility and to provide service continuity whilst roaming between two different access standards. Another aspect of personalisation, which is user preference modelling, is investigated in the context of service selection in a multi 3rd party service provider environment. A model is proposed for the automatic acquisition of user preferences to assist in service selection decision-making. User preferences are modelled based on a two-level Bayesian Metanetwork. Personal agents incorporating the proposed model provide answers to preference related queries such as cost, QoS and service provider reputation. This allows users to have their preferences considered automatically
On Cloud-based multisource Reliable Multicast Transport in Broadband Multimedia Satellite Networks
Multimedia synchronization, Software Over the Air, Personal Information Management on Cloud networks require new reliable protocols, which reduce the traffic load in the core and edge network. This work shows via simulations the performance of an efficient multicast file delivery, which advantage of the distributed file storage in Cloud computing. The performance evaluation focuses on the case of a personal satellite equipment with error prone channels
The new enhancement of UMTS: HSDPA and HSUPA
During the last two decades, the world of the mobile communications grew a lot, as a
consequence of the increasing necessity of people to communicate. Now, the mobile
communications still need to improve for satisfies the user demands.
The new enhancement of UMTS in concrete HSDPA and HSUPA is one of these
improvements that the society needs. HSDPA and HSUPA which together are called
HSPA, give to the users higher data rates in downlink and uplink. The higher data rates
permit to the operators give more different types of services and at the same time with
better quality. As a result, people can do several new applications with their mobile
terminals like applications that before a computer and internet connection were
required, now it is possible to do directly with the mobile terminal.
This thesis consists in study these new technologies denominated HSDPA and HSUPA
and thus know better the last tendencies in the mobile communications. Also it has a
roughly idea about the future tendencies
MBMSâIP Multicast/Broadcast in 3G Networks
In this article, the Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Service (MBMS) as standardized in 3GPP is presented. With MBMS, multicast and broadcast capabilities are introduced into cellular networks. After an introduction into MBMS technology, MBMS radio bearer realizations are presented. Different MBMS bearer services like broadcast mode, enhanced broadcast mode and multicast mode are discussed. Streaming and download services over MBMS are presented and supported media codecs are listed. Service layer components as defined in Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) are introduced. For a Mobile TV use case capacity improvements achieved by MBMS are shown. Finally, evolution of MBMS as part of 3GPP standardization is presented
