    Functional Validation of AADL Models via Model Transformation to SystemC with ATL

The AADL models represent electronic systems to be embedded into FPGAs. Our contribution allows for an early analytical estimation of energetic needs and a rapid SystemC simulation before implementation. The transformation has been tested to simulate an existing video image processing system embedded into a Xilinx Virtex5 FPGA

    An Interactive System Level Simulation Environment for Systems- on-Chip

    International audienceThis article presents an interactive simulation environment for high level models intended for Design Space Exploration of Systems-On-Chip. The existing open source development environment TTool supports the MARTE compliant UML profile DIPLODOCUS and enables the designer to create, simulate and formally verify models. The goal is to obtain first performance estimations of the system intended for design while minimizing the modeling effort. The contribution outlined in this paper is an additional module providing means for controlling the simulation in real time by performing step wise execution, saving and restoring simulation states as well as animating UML models of the system. Moreover the paper elaborates on the integration of these new features into the existing framework consisting of a simulation engine on the one hand and a graphical user interface on the other hand

    Mapping SysML to modelica to validate wireless sensor networks non-functional requirements

    International audienceWireless Sensor Networks (WSN) have registered a large success in the scientific and industrial communities for their broad application domains. Furthermore, the WSN specification is a complex task considering to their distributed and embedded nature and the strong interactions between their hardware and software parts. Moreover, most of approaches use semi-formal methods to design systems and generally simulation to validate their properties in order to produce models without errors and conform to the system specifications. In this context, we propose a Model Driven Architecture (MDA) approach to improve the verification of the WSN properties. This approach combines the advantages of the System Modeling Language (SysML) and the Modelica language which promote the reusability and improve the development process. In this work, we specify a model transformation from SysML static, dynamic and requirement diagrams to their corresponding elements in Modelica. Thanks to the SysML requirement diagram which is transformed into Modelica properties (constraints), we propose a technique using dynamic tests to verify WSN properties. We have used the Topcased platform to implement our approach 1 and chosen a crossroads monitoring system which is based on wireless sensors to illustrate it. Besides, we have verified and validated some wireless sensors properties of the studied system

    Re-use of tests and arguments for assesing dependable mixed-critically systems

    The safety assessment of mixed-criticality systems (MCS) is a challenging activity due to system heterogeneity, design constraints and increasing complexity. The foundation for MCSs is the integrated architecture paradigm, where a compact hardware comprises multiple execution platforms and communication interfaces to implement concurrent functions with different safety requirements. Besides a computing platform providing adequate isolation and fault tolerance mechanism, the development of an MCS application shall also comply with the guidelines defined by the safety standards. A way to lower the overall MCS certification cost is to adopt a platform-based design (PBD) development approach. PBD is a model-based development (MBD) approach, where separate models of logic, hardware and deployment support the analysis of the resulting system properties and behaviour. The PBD development of MCSs benefits from a composition of modular safety properties (e.g. modular safety cases), which support the derivation of mixed-criticality product lines. The validation and verification (V&V) activities claim a substantial effort during the development of programmable electronics for safety-critical applications. As for the MCS dependability assessment, the purpose of the V&V is to provide evidences supporting the safety claims. The model-based development of MCSs adds more V&V tasks, because additional analysis (e.g., simulations) need to be carried out during the design phase. During the MCS integration phase, typically hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) plant simulators support the V&V campaigns, where test automation and fault-injection are the key to test repeatability and thorough exercise of the safety mechanisms. This dissertation proposes several V&V artefacts re-use strategies to perform an early verification at system level for a distributed MCS, artefacts that later would be reused up to the final stages in the development process: a test code re-use to verify the fault-tolerance mechanisms on a functional model of the system combined with a non-intrusive software fault-injection, a model to X-in-the-loop (XiL) and code-to-XiL re-use to provide models of the plant and distributed embedded nodes suited to the HiL simulator, and finally, an argumentation framework to support the automated composition and staged completion of modular safety-cases for dependability assessment, in the context of the platform-based development of mixed-criticality systems relying on the DREAMS harmonized platform.La dificultad para evaluar la seguridad de los sistemas de criticidad mixta (SCM) aumenta con la heterogeneidad del sistema, las restricciones de diseño y una complejidad creciente. Los SCM adoptan el paradigma de arquitectura integrada, donde un hardware embebido compacto comprende múltiples plataformas de ejecución e interfaces de comunicación para implementar funciones concurrentes y con diferentes requisitos de seguridad. Además de una plataforma de computación que provea un aislamiento y mecanismos de tolerancia a fallos adecuados, el desarrollo de una aplicación SCM además debe cumplir con las directrices definidas por las normas de seguridad. Una forma de reducir el coste global de la certificación de un SCM es adoptar un enfoque de desarrollo basado en plataforma (DBP). DBP es un enfoque de desarrollo basado en modelos (DBM), en el que modelos separados de lógica, hardware y despliegue soportan el análisis de las propiedades y el comportamiento emergente del sistema diseñado. El desarrollo DBP de SCMs se beneficia de una composición modular de propiedades de seguridad (por ejemplo, casos de seguridad modulares), que facilitan la definición de líneas de productos de criticidad mixta. Las actividades de verificación y validación (V&V) representan un esfuerzo sustancial durante el desarrollo de aplicaciones basadas en electrónica confiable. En la evaluación de la seguridad de un SCM el propósito de las actividades de V&V es obtener las evidencias que apoyen las aseveraciones de seguridad. El desarrollo basado en modelos de un SCM incrementa las tareas de V&V, porque permite realizar análisis adicionales (por ejemplo, simulaciones) durante la fase de diseño. En las campañas de pruebas de integración de un SCM habitualmente se emplean simuladores de planta hardware-in-the-loop (HiL), en donde la automatización de pruebas y la inyección de faltas son la clave para la repetitividad de las pruebas y para ejercitar completamente los mecanismos de tolerancia a fallos. Esta tesis propone diversas estrategias de reutilización de artefactos de V&V para la verificación temprana de un MCS distribuido, artefactos que se emplearán en ulteriores fases del desarrollo: la reutilización de código de prueba para verificar los mecanismos de tolerancia a fallos sobre un modelo funcional del sistema combinado con una inyección de fallos de software no intrusiva, la reutilización de modelo a X-in-the-loop (XiL) y código a XiL para obtener modelos de planta y nodos distribuidos aptos para el simulador HiL y, finalmente, un marco de argumentación para la composición automatizada y la compleción escalonada de casos de seguridad modulares, en el contexto del desarrollo basado en plataformas de sistemas de criticidad mixta empleando la plataforma armonizada DREAMS.Kritikotasun nahastuko sistemen segurtasun ebaluazioa jarduera neketsua da beraien heterogeneotasuna dela eta.     Knowledge Representation in Engineering 4.0

    This dissertation was developed in the context of the BMBF and EU/ECSEL funded projects GENIAL! and Arrowhead Tools. In these projects the chair examines methods of specifications and cooperations in the automotive value chain from OEM-Tier1-Tier2. Goal of the projects is to improve communication and collaborative planning, especially in early development stages. Besides SysML, the use of agreed vocabularies and on- tologies for modeling requirements, overall context, variants, and many other items, is targeted. This thesis proposes a web database, where data from the collaborative requirements elicitation is combined with an ontology-based approach that uses reasoning capabilities. For this purpose, state-of-the-art ontologies have been investigated and integrated that entail domains like hardware/software, roadmapping, IoT, context, innovation and oth- ers. New ontologies have been designed like a HW / SW allocation ontology and a domain-specific "eFuse ontology" as well as some prototypes. The result is a modular ontology suite and the GENIAL! Basic Ontology that allows us to model automotive and microelectronic functions, components, properties and dependencies based on the ISO26262 standard among these elements. Furthermore, context knowledge that influences design decisions such as future trends in legislation, society, environment, etc. is included. These knowledge bases are integrated in a novel tool that allows for collabo- rative innovation planning and requirements communication along the automotive value chain. To start off the work of the project, an architecture and prototype tool was developed. Designing ontologies and knowing how to use them proved to be a non-trivial task, requiring a lot of context and background knowledge. Some of this background knowledge has been selected for presentation and was utilized either in designing models or for later immersion. Examples are basic foundations like design guidelines for ontologies, ontology categories and a continuum of expressiveness of languages and advanced content like multi-level theory, foundational ontologies and reasoning. Finally, at the end, we demonstrate the overall framework, and show the ontology with reasoning, database and APPEL/SysMD (AGILA ProPErty and Dependency Descrip- tion Language / System MarkDown) and constraints of the hardware / software knowledge base. There, by example, we explore and solve roadmap constraints that are coupled with a car model through a constraint solver.Diese Dissertation wurde im Kontext des von BMBF und EU / ECSEL gefördertem Projektes GENIAL! und Arrowhead Tools entwickelt. In diesen Projekten untersucht der Lehrstuhl Methoden zur Spezifikationen und Kooperation in der Automotive Wertschöp- fungskette, von OEM zu Tier1 und Tier2. Ziel der Arbeit ist es die Kommunikation und gemeinsame Planung, speziell in den frühen Entwicklungsphasen zu verbessern. Neben SysML ist die Benutzung von vereinbarten Vokabularen und Ontologien in der Modellierung von Requirements, des Gesamtkontextes, Varianten und vielen anderen Elementen angezielt. Ontologien sind dabei eine Möglichkeit, um das Vermeiden von Missverständnissen und Fehlplanungen zu unterstützen. Dieser Ansatz schlägt eine Web- datenbank vor, wobei Ontologien das Teilen von Wissen und das logische Schlussfolgern von implizitem Wissen und Regeln unterstützen. Diese Arbeit beschreibt Ontologien für die Domäne des Engineering 4.0, oder spezifischer, für die Domäne, die für das deutsche Projekt GENIAL! benötigt wurde. Dies betrifft Domänen, wie Hardware und Software, Roadmapping, Kontext, Innovation, IoT und andere. Neue Ontologien wurden entworfen, wie beispielsweise die Hardware-Software Allokations-Ontologie und eine domänen-spezifische "eFuse Ontologie". Das Ergebnis war eine modulare Ontologie-Bibliothek mit der GENIAL! Basic Ontology, die es erlaubt, automotive und mikroelektronische Komponenten, Funktionen, Eigenschaften und deren Abhängigkeiten basierend auf dem ISO26262 Standard zu entwerfen. Des weiteren ist Kontextwissen, welches Entwurfsentscheidungen beinflusst, inkludiert. Diese Wissensbasen sind in einem neuartigen Tool integriert, dass es ermöglicht, Roadmapwissen und Anforderungen durch die Automobil- Wertschöpfungskette hinweg auszutauschen. On tologien zu entwerfen und zu wissen, wie man diese benutzt, war dabei keine triviale Aufgabe und benötigte viel Hintergrund- und Kontextwissen. Ausgewählte Grundlagen hierfür sind Richtlinien, wie man Ontologien entwirft, Ontologiekategorien, sowie das Spektrum an Sprachen und Formen von Wissensrepresentationen. Des weiteren sind fort- geschrittene Methoden erläutert, z.B wie man mit Ontologien Schlußfolgerungen trifft. Am Schluss wird das Overall Framework demonstriert, und die Ontologie mit Reason- ing, Datenbank und APPEL/SysMD (AGILA ProPErty and Dependency Description Language / System MarkDown) und Constraints der Hardware / Software Wissensbasis gezeigt. Dabei werden exemplarisch Roadmap Constraints mit dem Automodell verbunden und durch den Constraint Solver gelöst und exploriert

    SystemC Through the Looking Glass : Non-Intrusive Analysis of Electronic System Level Designs in SystemC

    Due to the ever increasing complexity of hardware and hardware/software co-designs, developers strive for higher levels of abstractions in the early stages of the design flow. To address these demands, design at the Electronic System Level (ESL) has been introduced. SystemC currently is the de-facto standard for ESL design. The extraction of data from system designs written in SystemC is thereby crucial e.g. for the proper understanding of a given system. However, no satisfactory support of reflection/introspection of SystemC has been provided yet. Previously proposed methods for this purpose %introduced to achieve the goal nonetheless either focus on static aspects only, restrict the language means of SystemC, or rely on modifications of the compiler and/or parser. In this thesis, approaches that overcome these limitations are introduced, allowing the extraction of information from a given SystemC design without changing the SystemC library or the compiler.
