Variable selection in gamma regression model using chaotic firefly algorithm with application in chemometrics

    Get PDF
Variable selection is a very helpful procedure for improving computational speed and prediction accuracy by identifying the most important variables that related to the response variable. Regression modeling has received much attention in several science fields. Firefly algorithm is one of the recently efficient proposed nature-inspired algorithms that can efficiently be employed for variable selection. In this work, chaotic firefly algorithm is proposed to perform variable selection for gamma regression model.  A real data application related to the chemometrics is conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed method in terms of prediction accuracy and variable selection criteria. Further, its performance is compared with other methods. The results proved the efficiency of our proposed methods and it outperforms other popular methods

Improved LASSO (ILASSO) for gene selection and classification in high dimensional dna microarray data

Classification and selection of gene in high dimensional microarray data has become a challenging problem in molecular biology and genetics. Penalized Adaptive likelihood method has been employed recently for classification of cancer to address both gene selection consistency and estimation of gene coefficients in high dimensional data simultaneously. Many studies from the literature have proposed the use of ordinary least squares (OLS), maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and Elastic net as the initial weight in the Adaptive elastic net, but in high dimensional microarray data the MLE and OLS are not suitable. Likewise, considering the Elastic net as the initial weight in Adaptive elastic yields a poor performance, because the ridge penalty in the Elastic net grouped coefficient of highly correlated genes closer to each other. As a result, the estimator fails to differentiate coefficients of highly correlated genes that have different sign being grouped together. To tackle this issue, the present study proposed Improved LASSO (ILASSO) estimator which add the ridge penalty to the original LASSO with an Adaptive weight to both l1 - norm and l2 - norm simultaneously. Results from the real data indicated that ILASSO has a better performance compared to other methods in terms of the number of gene selected, classification precision, Sensitivity and Specificity

An optimal control for complete synchronization of 4D Rabinovich hyperchaotic systems

    Get PDF
This paper derives new results for the complete synchronization of 4D identical Rabinovich hyperchaotic systems by using two strategies: active and nonlinear control. Nonlinear control strategy is considered as one of the powerful tool for controlling the dynamical systems. The stabilization results of error dynamics systems are established based on Lyapunov second method. Control is designed via the relevant variables of drive and response systems. In comparison with previous strategies, the current controller (nonlinear control) focuses on convergence speed and the minimum limits of relevant variables. Better performance is to achieve full synchronization by designing the control with fewer terms. The proposed control has certain significance for reducing the time and complexity for strategy implementation

Antioxidant effects of ethanolic extract of Caesalpinia bonduc and its isolated bioactive compounds were evaluated in vitro. The compounds included two new cassanediterpenes, 1α,7α-diacetoxy-5α,6β-dihydroxyl-cass-14(15)-epoxy-16,12-olide (1)and 12α-ethoxyl-1α,14β-diacetoxy-2α,5α-dihydroxyl cass-13(15)-en-16,12-olide(2); and others, bonducellin (3), 7,4’-dihydroxy-3,11-dehydrohomoisoflavanone (4), daucosterol (5), luteolin (6), quercetin-3-methyl ether (7) and kaempferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1Ç2)-β-D-xylopyranoside (8). The antioxidant properties of the extract and compounds were assessed by the measurement of the total phenolic content, ascorbic acid content, total antioxidant capacity and 1-1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) and hydrogen peroxide radicals scavenging activities.Compounds 3, 6, 7 and ethanolic extract had DPPH scavenging activities with IC50 values of 186, 75, 17 and 102 μg/ml respectively when compared to vitamin C with 15 μg/ml. On the other hand, no significant results were obtained for hydrogen peroxide radical. In addition, compound 7 has the highest phenolic content of 0.81±0.01 mg/ml of gallic acid equivalent while compound 8 showed the highest total antioxidant capacity with 254.31±3.54 and 199.82±2.78 μg/ml gallic and ascorbic acid equivalent respectively. Compound 4 and ethanolic extract showed a high ascorbic acid content of 2.26±0.01 and 6.78±0.03 mg/ml respectively. The results obtained showed the antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extract of C. bonduc and deduced that this activity was mediated by its isolated bioactive compounds
