Quality of Information in Mobile Crowdsensing: Survey and Research Challenges
Smartphones have become the most pervasive devices in people's lives, and are
clearly transforming the way we live and perceive technology. Today's
smartphones benefit from almost ubiquitous Internet connectivity and come
equipped with a plethora of inexpensive yet powerful embedded sensors, such as
accelerometer, gyroscope, microphone, and camera. This unique combination has
enabled revolutionary applications based on the mobile crowdsensing paradigm,
such as real-time road traffic monitoring, air and noise pollution, crime
control, and wildlife monitoring, just to name a few. Differently from prior
sensing paradigms, humans are now the primary actors of the sensing process,
since they become fundamental in retrieving reliable and up-to-date information
about the event being monitored. As humans may behave unreliably or
maliciously, assessing and guaranteeing Quality of Information (QoI) becomes
more important than ever. In this paper, we provide a new framework for
defining and enforcing the QoI in mobile crowdsensing, and analyze in depth the
current state-of-the-art on the topic. We also outline novel research

A Trust-based Recruitment Framework for Multi-hop Social Participatory Sensing
The idea of social participatory sensing provides a substrate to benefit from
friendship relations in recruiting a critical mass of participants willing to
attend in a sensing campaign. However, the selection of suitable participants
who are trustable and provide high quality contributions is challenging. In
this paper, we propose a recruitment framework for social participatory
sensing. Our framework leverages multi-hop friendship relations to identify and
select suitable and trustworthy participants among friends or friends of
friends, and finds the most trustable paths to them. The framework also
includes a suggestion component which provides a cluster of suggested friends
along with the path to them, which can be further used for recruitment or
friendship establishment. Simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of our
proposed recruitment framework in terms of selecting a large number of
well-suited participants and providing contributions with high overall trust,
in comparison with one-hop recruitment architecture.Comment: accepted in DCOSS 201
A Graph-Based Approach to Address Trust and Reputation in Ubiquitous Networks
The increasing popularity of virtual computing environments such as Cloud and Grid computing is helping to drive the realization of ubiquitous and pervasive computing. However, as computing becomes more entrenched in everyday life, the concepts of trust and risk become increasingly important. In this paper, we propose a new graph-based theoretical approach to address trust and reputation in complex ubiquitous networks. We formulate trust as a function of quality of a task and time required to authenticate agent-to-agent relationship based on the Zero-Common Knowledge (ZCK) authentication scheme. This initial representation applies a graph theory concept, accompanied by a mathematical formulation of trust metrics. The approach we propose increases awareness and trustworthiness to agents based on the values estimated for each requested task, we conclude by stating our plans for future work in this area
A flexible architecture for privacy-aware trust management
In service-oriented systems a constellation of services cooperate, sharing potentially sensitive information and responsibilities. Cooperation is only possible if the different participants trust each other. As trust may depend on many different factors, in a flexible framework for Trust Management (TM) trust must be computed by combining different types of information. In this paper we describe the TAS3 TM framework which integrates independent TM systems into a single trust decision point. The TM framework supports intricate combinations whilst still remaining easily extensible. It also provides a unified trust evaluation interface to the (authorization framework of the) services. We demonstrate the flexibility of the approach by integrating three distinct TM paradigms: reputation-based TM, credential-based TM, and Key Performance Indicator TM. Finally, we discuss privacy concerns in TM systems and the directions to be taken for the definition of a privacy-friendly TM architecture.\u

The Reputation, Opinion, Credibility and Quality (ROCQ) Scheme
An implicit assumption of trust in the participants is at the basis of most Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks. However, in practice, not all participants are benign or cooperative. Identifying such peers is critical to the smooth and effective functioning of a P2P network. In this paper, we present the ROCQ mechanism, a reputation-based trust management system that computes the trustworthiness of peers on the basis of transaction-based feedback. The ROCQ model combines four parameters: Reputation (R) or a peer's global trust rating, Opinion (O) formed by a peer's first-hand interactions, Credibility (C) of a reporting peer and Quality (Q) or the confidence a reporting peer puts on the judgement it provides. We then present a distributed implementation of our scheme over FreePastry, a structured P2P network. Experimental results considering different models for malicious behavior indicate the contexts in which the ROCQ scheme performs better than existing schemes
