Performance Analysis of Improved Technique for Optimal Frequency Spectrum Utilization Considering Energy and Eigenvalue Detectors
Recently, exponential rise in the demand of wireless communication has led to gross reduction in the availability of wireless frequency spectrum to meet the proliferation of demands. Overlay and underlay cognitive radio used to address this problem is characterized with poor management of the assigned spectrum. The basic and essential mechanism of cognitive Radio (CR) to find unused spectrum is called Spectrum Sensing. This is important in optimizing frequency allocation for the increasing wireless communication system. Hence, this paper developed an energy efficient spectrum sensing technique for detection of white and brown space using energy and eigenvalue detector. Based on a predefined switching algorithm, the developed spectrum sensing system switches between overlay and underlay approach when there is presence of white space and brown space respectively. During the underlay approach, the cognitive user (CU) signal is coded using a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) to prevent primary users (PU) receiver from hearing CU signal and thereby improve the security of CU. Also, Hybrid Decode Amplify and Forward (H-DAF) cooperative relay technique is incorporated to enhance the coverage area of the cognitive user. However, during the overlay approach, H-DAF cooperative relay technique will be in sleep mode since CU can transmit with the maximum transmitting power. During the underlay approach, the received signal at the relay node is decoded, amplified, and coded using CDMA before forwarding to the CU receiver. The paper compared the performance of the two detectors by simulating the developed algorithm using MATLAB R2021a. Evaluation was based on Throughput, Spectrum Utilization Efficiency, and Spectral Efficiency by comparing Energy detector and Eigen Value detector. Cognitive satellite communications and representation learning for streaming and complex graphs.
This dissertation includes two topics. The first topic studies a promising dynamic spectrum access algorithm (DSA) that improves the throughput of satellite communication (SATCOM) under the uncertainty. The other topic investigates distributed representation learning for streaming and complex networks. DSA allows a secondary user to access the spectrum that are not occupied by primary users. However, uncertainty in SATCOM causes more spectrum sensing errors. In this dissertation, the uncertainty has been addressed by formulating a DSA decision-making process as a Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP) model to optimally determine which channels to sense and access. Large-scale networks have attracted many attentions to discover the hidden information from big data. Particularly, representation learning embeds the network into a lower vector space while maximally preserving the similarity among nodes. I propose a real-time distributed graph embedding algorithm (RTDGE) which is capable of distributively embedding the streaming graph by combining a novel edge partition approach and an incremental negative sample approach. Furthermore, a platform is prototyped based on Kafka and Storm. Real-time Twitter network data can be retrieved, partitioned and processed for state-of-art tasks. For knowledge graphs, existing works cannot capture the complex connection patterns and never consider the impacts from complicated relations, due to the unquantifiable relationships. A novel embedding algorithm is proposed to hierarchically measure the structural similarity and the impacts from relations by constructing a multi-layer graph. Then, an advanced representation learning model is designed based on an entity\u27s context generated by random walks on the multi-layer content graph

Performance analysis of energy detector over generalised wireless channels in cognitive radio
This thesis was submitted for the award of Doctor of Philosophy and was awarded by Brunel University London. This thesis extensively analyses the performance of an energy detector which is
widely employed to perform spectrum sensing in cognitive radio over different generalised
channel models. In this analysis, both the average probability of detection and
the average area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) are derived
using the probability density function of the received instantaneous signal to noise
ratio (SNR). The performance of energy detector over an ŋ --- µ fading, which is used
to model the Non-line-of-sight (NLoS) communication scenarios is provided. Then,
the behaviour of the energy detector over к --- µ shadowed fading channel, which is
a composite of generalized multipath/shadowing fading channel to model the lineof-
sight (LoS) communication medium is investigated. The analysis of the energy
detector over both ŋ --- µ and к --- µ shadowed fading channels are then extended to
include maximal ratio combining (MRC), square law combining (SLC) and square
law selection (SLS) with independent and non-identically (i:n:d) diversity branches.
To overcome the problem of mathematical intractability in analysing the energy
detector over i:n:d composite fading channels with MRC and selection combining
(SC), two different unified statistical properties models for the sum and the maximum
of mixture gamma (MG) variates are derived. The first model is limited by the value
of the shadowing severity index, which should be an integer number and has been
employed to study the performance of energy detector over composite α --- µ /gamma
fading channel. This channel is proposed to represent the non-linear prorogation
environment. On the other side, the second model is general and has been utilised to
analyse the behaviour of energy detector over composite ŋ --- µ /gamma fading channel.
Finally, a special filter-bank transform which is called slantlet packet transform
(SPT) is developed and used to estimate the uncertain noise power. Moreover, signal
denoising based on hybrid slantlet transform (HST) is employed to reduce the noise
impact on the performance of energy detector. The combined SPT-HST approach
improves the detection capability of energy detector with 97% and reduces the total
computational complexity by nearly 19% in comparison with previously implemented
work using filter-bank transforms. The aforementioned percentages are measured at
specific SNR, number of selected samples and levels of signal decompositionMartyrs Foundatio

Recently, a considerable amount of researches has been devoted to the development of the UWB RF transceiver and antenna for its enabling high data transmission rates and low power consumption. Our book attempts to present current and emerging trends in-research and development of UWB systems as well as future expectations
A Novel Approach to Wideband Spectrum Compressive Sensing Based on DST for Frequency Availability in LEO Mobile Satellite Systems
In LEO mobile satellite network, the L/S frequency availability is an essential task for global communication but entails several major technical challenges: high sampling rate required for wideband sensing, limited power and computing resources for processing load, and frequency-selective wireless fading. This paper investigates the issue of frequency availability in LEO mobile satellite system, and a novel wideband spectrum compressed signal detection approach is proposed to obtain active primary users (PUs) subbands and their locations that should be avoided during frequency allocation. We define the novel wideband spectrum compressed sensing method based on discrete sine transform (DST-WSCS), which significantly improves the performance of spectrum detection and recovery accuracy compared with conventional discrete Fourier transform based wideband spectrum compressed sensing scheme (DFT-WSCS). Additionally, with the help of intersatellite links (ISL), the scheme of multiple satellites cooperative sensing according to OR and MAJ decision fusion rules is presented to achieve spatial diversity against wireless fading. Finally, in-depth numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the performance of the proposed scheme in aspect of signal detection probability, reconstruction precision, processing time, and so forth
