Gamification techniques for raising cyber security awareness
Due to the prevalence of online services in modern society, such as internet banking and social media, it is important for users to have an understanding of basic security measures in order to keep themselves safe online. However, users often do not know how to make their online interactions secure, which demonstrates an educational need in this area. Gamification has grown in popularity in recent years and has been used to teach people about a range of subjects. This paper presents an exploratory study investigating the use of gamification techniques to educate average users about password security, with the aim of raising overall security awareness. To explore the impact of such techniques, a role-playing quiz application (RPG) was developed for the Android platform to educate users about password security. Results gained from the work highlightedthat users enjoyed learning via the use of the password application, and felt they benefitted from the inclusion of gamification techniques. Future work seeks to expand the prototype into a full solution, covering a range of security awareness issues
Overview of MV-HEVC prediction structures for light field video
Light field video is a promising technology for delivering the required six-degrees-of-freedom for natural content in virtual reality. Already existing multi-view coding (MVC) and multi-view plus depth (MVD) formats, such as MV-HEVC and 3D-HEVC, are the most conventional light field video coding solutions since they can compress video sequences captured simultaneously from multiple camera angles. 3D-HEVC treats a single view as a video sequence and the other sub-aperture views as gray-scale disparity (depth) maps. On the other hand, MV-HEVC treats each view as a separate video sequence, which allows the use of motion compensated algorithms similar to HEVC. While MV-HEVC and 3D-HEVC provide similar results, MV-HEVC does not require any disparity maps to be readily available, and it has a more straightforward implementation since it only uses syntax elements rather than additional prediction tools for inter-view prediction. However, there are many degrees of freedom in choosing an appropriate structure and it is currently still unknown which one is optimal for a given set of application requirements. In this work, various prediction structures for MV-HEVC are implemented and tested. The findings reveal the trade-off between compression gains, distortion and random access capabilities in MVHEVC light field video coding. The results give an overview of the most optimal solutions developed in the context of this work, and prediction structure algorithms proposed in state-of-the-art literature. This overview provides a useful benchmark for future development of light field video coding solutions
Integrating mobile robotics and vision with undergraduate computer science
This paper describes the integration of robotics education into an undergraduate Computer Science curriculum. The proposed approach delivers mobile robotics as well as covering the closely related field of Computer Vision, and is directly linked to the research conducted at the authorsâ institution. The paper describes the most relevant details of the module content and assessment strategy, paying particular attention to the practical sessions using Rovio mobile robots. The specific choices are discussed that were made with regard to the mobile platform, software libraries and lab environment. The paper also presents a detailed qualitative and quantitative analysis of student results, including the correlation between student engagement and performance, and discusses the outcomes of this experience
An interface to retrieve personal memories using an iconic visual language
Relevant past events can be remembered when visualizing related pictures. The main difficulty is how to find these photos in a large personal collection. Query definition and image annotation are key issues to overcome this problem. The former is relevant due to the diversity of the clues provided by our memory when recovering a past moment and the later because images need to be annotated with information regarding those clues to be retrieved. Consequently, tools to recover past memories should deal carefully with these two tasks. This paper describes a user interface designed to explore pictures from personal memories. Users can query the media collection in several ways and for this reason an iconic visual language to define queries is proposed. Automatic and semi-automatic annotation is also performed using the image content and the audio information obtained when users show their images to others. The paper also presents the user interface evaluation based on tests with 58 participants
The determining factors of service value and satisfaction for edutainment services in Malaysia
Edutainment is a growing business in our country and it is precisely to study the service value and satisfaction to learn about customers behaviors. The purpose of this study is to identify antecedents of service value and satisfaction and determine the relationship and which antecedents are most influential on value and satisfaction. This research used a nonprobability with mall intercept convenience sampling and 130 respondents were participated
in this survey. This study employed the Descriptive analysis, Correlation analysis, and Multiple Regression Analysis. For the data analysis, we have used 127 questionnaires and 7 questionnaires were eliminated due to incomplete. The results of this study are supported that overall service marketing mix and service quality have a positive and significant relationship between service value and service satisfaction. Meanwhile, the most influential antecedents on value are the physical evidence and service quality, for service satisfaction is the service quality. Our research suggests that the edutainment marketing managers should create an effective service marketing mix strategies which leads to customer perceived quality, perceived value as well as perceived satisfaction
