Context-Aware Trajectory Prediction
Human motion and behaviour in crowded spaces is influenced by several
factors, such as the dynamics of other moving agents in the scene, as well as
the static elements that might be perceived as points of attraction or
obstacles. In this work, we present a new model for human trajectory prediction
which is able to take advantage of both human-human and human-space
interactions. The future trajectory of humans, are generated by observing their
past positions and interactions with the surroundings. To this end, we propose
a "context-aware" recurrent neural network LSTM model, which can learn and
predict human motion in crowded spaces such as a sidewalk, a museum or a
shopping mall. We evaluate our model on a public pedestrian datasets, and we
contribute a new challenging dataset that collects videos of humans that
navigate in a (real) crowded space such as a big museum. Results show that our
approach can predict human trajectories better when compared to previous

VMA: Divide-and-Conquer Vectorized Map Annotation System for Large-Scale Driving Scene
High-definition (HD) map serves as the essential infrastructure of autonomous
driving. In this work, we build up a systematic vectorized map annotation
framework (termed VMA) for efficiently generating HD map of large-scale driving
scene. We design a divide-and-conquer annotation scheme to solve the spatial
extensibility problem of HD map generation, and abstract map elements with a
variety of geometric patterns as unified point sequence representation, which
can be extended to most map elements in the driving scene. VMA is highly
efficient and extensible, requiring negligible human effort, and flexible in
terms of spatial scale and element type. We quantitatively and qualitatively
validate the annotation performance on real-world urban and highway scenes, as
well as NYC Planimetric Database. VMA can significantly improve map generation
efficiency and require little human effort. On average VMA takes 160min for
annotating a scene with a range of hundreds of meters, and reduces 52.3% of the
human cost, showing great application value
Context Trees: Augmenting Geospatial Trajectories with Context
Exposing latent knowledge in geospatial trajectories has the potential to
provide a better understanding of the movements of individuals and groups.
Motivated by such a desire, this work presents the context tree, a new
hierarchical data structure that summarises the context behind user actions in
a single model. We propose a method for context tree construction that augments
geospatial trajectories with land usage data to identify such contexts. Through
evaluation of the construction method and analysis of the properties of
generated context trees, we demonstrate the foundation for understanding and
modelling behaviour afforded. Summarising user contexts into a single data
structure gives easy access to information that would otherwise remain latent,
providing the basis for better understanding and predicting the actions and
behaviours of individuals and groups. Finally, we also present a method for
pruning context trees, for use in applications where it is desirable to reduce
the size of the tree while retaining useful information
Active learning of driving scenario trajectories
Annotated driving scenario trajectories are crucial for verification and validation of autonomous vehicles. However, annotation of such trajectories based only on explicit rules (i.e. knowledge-based methods) may be prone to errors, such as false positive/negative classification of scenarios that lie on the border of two scenario classes, missing unknown scenario classes, or even failing to detect anomalies. On the other hand, verification of labels by annotators is not cost-efficient. For this purpose, active learning (AL) could potentially improve the annotation procedure by including an annotator/expert in an efficient way. In this study, we develop a generic active learning framework to annotate driving trajectory time series data. We first compute an embedding of the trajectories into a latent space in order to extract the temporal nature of the data. Given such an embedding, the framework becomes task agnostic since active learning can be performed using any classification method and any query strategy, regardless of the structure of the original time series data. Furthermore, we utilize our active learning framework to discover unknown driving scenario trajectories. This will ensure that previously unknown trajectory types can be effectively detected and included in the labeled dataset. We evaluate our proposed framework in different settings on novel real-world datasets consisting of driving trajectories collected by Volvo Cars Corporation. We observe that active learning constitutes an effective tool for labeling driving trajectories as well as for detecting unknown classes. Expectedly, the quality of the embedding plays an important role in the success of the proposed framework
