    Real-time detection and tracking of multiple objects with partial decoding in H.264/AVC bitstream domain

    In this paper, we show that we can apply probabilistic spatiotemporal macroblock filtering (PSMF) and partial decoding processes to effectively detect and track multiple objects in real time in H.264|AVC bitstreams with stationary background. Our contribution is that our method cannot only show fast processing time but also handle multiple moving objects that are articulated, changing in size or internally have monotonous color, even though they contain a chaotic set of non-homogeneous motion vectors inside. In addition, our partial decoding process for H.264|AVC bitstreams enables to improve the accuracy of object trajectories and overcome long occlusion by using extracted color information.Comment: SPIE Real-Time Image and Video Processing Conference 200

    A graphical model based solution to the facial feature point tracking problem

    In this paper a facial feature point tracker that is motivated by applications such as human-computer interfaces and facial expression analysis systems is proposed. The proposed tracker is based on a graphical model framework. The facial features are tracked through video streams by incorporating statistical relations in time as well as spatial relations between feature points. By exploiting the spatial relationships between feature points, the proposed method provides robustness in real-world conditions such as arbitrary head movements and occlusions. A Gabor feature-based occlusion detector is developed and used to handle occlusions. The performance of the proposed tracker has been evaluated on real video data under various conditions including occluded facial gestures and head movements. It is also compared to two popular methods, one based on Kalman filtering exploiting temporal relations, and the other based on active appearance models (AAM). Improvements provided by the proposed approach are demonstrated through both visual displays and quantitative analysis

    Robust 3D People Tracking and Positioning System in a Semi-Overlapped Multi-Camera Environment

    People positioning and tracking in 3D indoor environments are challenging tasks due to background clutter and occlusions. Current works are focused on solving people occlusions in low-cluttered backgrounds, but fail in high-cluttered scenarios, specially when foreground objects occlude people. In this paper, a novel 3D people positioning and tracking system is presented, which shows itself robust to both possible occlusion sources: static scene objects and other people. The system holds on a set of multiple cameras with partially overlapped fields of view. Moving regions are segmented independently in each camera stream by means of a new background modeling strategy based on Gabor filters. People detection is carried out on these segmentations through a template-based correlation strategy. Detected people are tracked independently in each camera view by means of a graph-based matching strategy, which estimates the best correspondences between consecutive people segmentations. Finally, 3D tracking and positioning of people is achieved by geometrical consistency analysis over the tracked 2D candidates, using head position (instead of object centroids) to increase robustness to foreground occlusions

    Enhanced tracking and recognition of moving objects by reasoning about spatio-temporal continuity.

    A framework for the logical and statistical analysis and annotation of dynamic scenes containing occlusion and other uncertainties is presented. This framework consists of three elements; an object tracker module, an object recognition/classification module and a logical consistency, ambiguity and error reasoning engine. The principle behind the object tracker and object recognition modules is to reduce error by increasing ambiguity (by merging objects in close proximity and presenting multiple hypotheses). The reasoning engine deals with error, ambiguity and occlusion in a unified framework to produce a hypothesis that satisfies fundamental constraints on the spatio-temporal continuity of objects. Our algorithm finds a globally consistent model of an extended video sequence that is maximally supported by a voting function based on the output of a statistical classifier. The system results in an annotation that is significantly more accurate than what would be obtained by frame-by-frame evaluation of the classifier output.     Gravity optimised particle filter for hand tracking

    This paper presents a gravity optimised particle filter (GOPF) where the magnitude of the gravitational force for every particle is proportional to its weight. GOPF attracts nearby particles and replicates new particles as if moving the particles towards the peak of the likelihood distribution, improving the sampling efficiency. GOPF is incorporated into a technique for hand features tracking. A fast approach to hand features detection and labelling using convexity defects is also presented. Experimental results show that GOPF outperforms the standard particle filter and its variants, as well as state-of-the-art CamShift guided particle filter using a significantly reduced number of particles
