    Hop and HipHop : Multitier Web Orchestration

    Rich applications merge classical computing, client-server concurrency, web-based interfaces, and the complex time- and event-based reactive programming found in embedded systems. To handle them, we extend the Hop web programming platform by HipHop, a domain-specific language dedicated to event-based process orchestration. Borrowing the synchronous reactive model of Esterel, HipHop is based on synchronous concurrency and preemption primitives that are known to be key components for the modular design of complex reactive behaviors. HipHop departs from Esterel by its ability to handle the dynamicity of Web applications, thanks to the reflexivity of Hop.     Synchronous programming with events and relations: the SIGNAL language and its semantics

    AbstractIn this paper, systems which interact permanently with their environment are considered. Such systems are encountered, for instance, in real-time control or signal processing systems, C3-systems, man-machine interfaces, to mention just a few. The design and implementation of such systems require a concurrent programming language which can be used to verify and synthesize the synchronization mechanisms, and to perform transformations of the concurrent source code to match a particular target architecture. Synchronous languages are convenient tools for such a purpose: they rely on the assumption that: (1) internal actions of synchronous systems are instantaneous, and (2) communication with the environment is performed via instantaneous flashes involving some external stimuli. In this paper, we present a synchronous programming language: SIGNAL. A SIGNAL program specifies dynamical relations between (internal and external) signal flows. The SIGNAL compiler checks deadlock and determinism of the program, and produces an intermediate level code equivalent to a nested family of concurrent automata. The compilation algorithm is supported by: (1) a behavioural semantics of SIGNAL programs in terms of conditional rewriting rules, (2) the coding of this semantics into the skew product of a dynamical system over the field of integers modulo 3 and directed graphs, (3) an algebraic algorithm to transform the above coding into an equivalent executable one, which provides by the way an execution semantics of the language. We briefly discuss the implementation aspects, and explain the capabilities and limitations of the current version of the SIGNAL compiler

    An Algebra of Synchronous Scheduling Interfaces

    In this paper we propose an algebra of synchronous scheduling interfaces which combines the expressiveness of Boolean algebra for logical and functional behaviour with the min-max-plus arithmetic for quantifying the non-functional aspects of synchronous interfaces. The interface theory arises from a realisability interpretation of intuitionistic modal logic (also known as Curry-Howard-Isomorphism or propositions-as-types principle). The resulting algebra of interface types aims to provide a general setting for specifying type-directed and compositional analyses of worst-case scheduling bounds. It covers synchronous control flow under concurrent, multi-processing or multi-threading execution and permits precise statements about exactness and coverage of the analyses supporting a variety of abstractions. The paper illustrates the expressiveness of the algebra by way of some examples taken from network flow problems, shortest-path, task scheduling and worst-case reaction times in synchronous programming.Comment: In Proceedings FIT 2010, arXiv:1101.426

    Feasible reactivity in a synchronous pi-calculus

    Reactivity is an essential property of a synchronous program. Informally, it guarantees that at each instant the program fed with an input will `react' producing an output. In the present work, we consider a refined property that we call ` feasible reactivity'. Beyond reactivity, this property guarantees that at each instant both the size of the program and its reaction time are bounded by a polynomial in the size of the parameters at the beginning of the computation and the size of the largest input. We propose a method to annotate programs and we develop related static analysis techniques that guarantee feasible reactivity for programs expressed in the S-pi-calculus. The latter is a synchronous version of the pi-calculus based on the SL synchronous programming model

    Towards a verified compiler prototype for the synchronous language SIGNAL

    International audienceSIGNAL belongs to the synchronous languages family which are widely used in the design of safety-critical real-time systems such as avionics, space systems, and nuclear power plants. This paper reports a compiler prototype for SIGNAL. Compared with the existing SIGNAL compiler, we propose a new intermediate representation (named S-CGA, a variant of clocked guarded actions), to integrate more synchronous programs into our compiler prototype in the future. The front-end of the compiler, i.e., the translation from SIGNAL to S-CGA, is presented. As well, the proof of semantics preservation is mechanized in the theorem prover Coq. Moreover, we present the back-end of the compiler, including sequential code generation and multithreaded code generation with time-predictable properties. With the rising importance of multi-core processors in safety-critical embedded systems or cyber-physical systems (CPS), there is a growing need for model-driven generation of multithreaded code and thus mapping on multi-core. We propose a time-predictable multi-core architecture model in architecture analysis and design language (AADL), and map the multi-threaded code to this model
