Cross Layer Aware Adaptive MAC based on Knowledge Based Reasoning for Cognitive Radio Computer Networks
In this paper we are proposing a new concept in MAC layer protocol design for
Cognitive radio by combining information held by physical layer and MAC layer
with analytical engine based on knowledge based reasoning approach. In the
proposed system a cross layer information regarding signal to interference and
noise ratio (SINR) and received power are analyzed with help of knowledge based
reasoning system to determine minimum power to transmit and size of contention
window, to minimize backoff, collision, save power and drop packets. The
performance analysis of the proposed protocol indicates improvement in power
saving, lowering backoff and significant decrease in number of drop packets.
The simulation environment was implement using OMNET++ discrete simulation tool
with Mobilty framework and MiXiM simulation library.Comment: 8 page
Wireless communication, identification and sensing technologies enabling integrated logistics: a study in the harbor environment
In the last decade, integrated logistics has become an important challenge in
the development of wireless communication, identification and sensing
technology, due to the growing complexity of logistics processes and the
increasing demand for adapting systems to new requirements. The advancement of
wireless technology provides a wide range of options for the maritime container
terminals. Electronic devices employed in container terminals reduce the manual
effort, facilitating timely information flow and enhancing control and quality
of service and decision made. In this paper, we examine the technology that can
be used to support integration in harbor's logistics. In the literature, most
systems have been developed to address specific needs of particular harbors,
but a systematic study is missing. The purpose is to provide an overview to the
reader about which technology of integrated logistics can be implemented and
what remains to be addressed in the future
Millimeter-wave Wireless LAN and its Extension toward 5G Heterogeneous Networks
Millimeter-wave (mmw) frequency bands, especially 60 GHz unlicensed band, are
considered as a promising solution for gigabit short range wireless
communication systems. IEEE standard 802.11ad, also known as WiGig, is
standardized for the usage of the 60 GHz unlicensed band for wireless local
area networks (WLANs). By using this mmw WLAN, multi-Gbps rate can be achieved
to support bandwidth-intensive multimedia applications. Exhaustive search along
with beamforming (BF) is usually used to overcome 60 GHz channel propagation
loss and accomplish data transmissions in such mmw WLANs. Because of its short
range transmission with a high susceptibility to path blocking, multiple number
of mmw access points (APs) should be used to fully cover a typical target
environment for future high capacity multi-Gbps WLANs. Therefore, coordination
among mmw APs is highly needed to overcome packet collisions resulting from
un-coordinated exhaustive search BF and to increase the total capacity of mmw
WLANs. In this paper, we firstly give the current status of mmw WLANs with our
developed WiGig AP prototype. Then, we highlight the great need for coordinated
transmissions among mmw APs as a key enabler for future high capacity mmw
WLANs. Two different types of coordinated mmw WLAN architecture are introduced.
One is the distributed antenna type architecture to realize centralized
coordination, while the other is an autonomous coordination with the assistance
of legacy Wi-Fi signaling. Moreover, two heterogeneous network (HetNet)
architectures are also introduced to efficiently extend the coordinated mmw
WLANs to be used for future 5th Generation (5G) cellular networks.Comment: 18 pages, 24 figures, accepted, invited paper
Mobile Communications Industry Scenarios and Strategic Implications for Network Equipment Vendors
Mobile infrastructure markets have changed dramatically during the past years. The industry is experiencing a shift from traditional large-scale, hardware-driven system roll-outs to software and services -driven business models. Also, the telecommunications and internet worlds are colliding in both mobile infrastructure and services domains requiring established network equipment vendors and mobile operators to transform and adapt to the new business environment. This paper utilizes Schoemaker's scenario planning process to reveal critical uncertain elements shaping the future of the industry. Four possible scenarios representing different value systems between industry's key stakeholders are created. After this, five strategic options with differing risk and cost factors for established network equipment vendors are discussed in order to aid firm's strategic planning process. --
VoIP on 3GPP LTE Network: A Survey
As wireless access networks evolve towards an all-IP architecture, the principles of operations of communication services (specifically voice services), which have hitherto been circuit switched are being revisited. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) has been identified as a solution and is potentially capable of completely replacing existing phone networks. However, as opposed to circuit switching technology, the call quality obtained via packet switching through IP has not been encouraging due to certain issues. The increasing demands on data rates, mobility, coverage and better service quality, led to the evolution in Radio Access Technologies (RATs) to an era of last-mile fourth generation (4G) access technologies among which is Long Term Evolution (LTE). LTE is an all-IP network initially meant for carrying data only, while carriers would be able to support voice traffic either by utilizing 2G or 3G systems or by using VoIP.
