Moving Object Trajectories Meta-Model And Spatio-Temporal Queries
In this paper, a general moving object trajectories framework is put forward
to allow independent applications processing trajectories data benefit from a
high level of interoperability, information sharing as well as an efficient
answer for a wide range of complex trajectory queries. Our proposed meta-model
is based on ontology and event approach, incorporates existing presentations of
trajectory and integrates new patterns like space-time path to describe
activities in geographical space-time. We introduce recursive Region of
Interest concepts and deal mobile objects trajectories with diverse
spatio-temporal sampling protocols and different sensors available that

Historical collaborative geocoding
The latest developments in digital have provided large data sets that can
increasingly easily be accessed and used. These data sets often contain
indirect localisation information, such as historical addresses. Historical
geocoding is the process of transforming the indirect localisation information
to direct localisation that can be placed on a map, which enables spatial
analysis and cross-referencing. Many efficient geocoders exist for current
addresses, but they do not deal with the temporal aspect and are based on a
strict hierarchy (..., city, street, house number) that is hard or impossible
to use with historical data. Indeed historical data are full of uncertainties
(temporal aspect, semantic aspect, spatial precision, confidence in historical
source, ...) that can not be resolved, as there is no way to go back in time to
check. We propose an open source, open data, extensible solution for geocoding
that is based on the building of gazetteers composed of geohistorical objects
extracted from historical topographical maps. Once the gazetteers are
available, geocoding an historical address is a matter of finding the
geohistorical object in the gazetteers that is the best match to the historical
address. The matching criteriae are customisable and include several dimensions
(fuzzy semantic, fuzzy temporal, scale, spatial precision ...). As the goal is
to facilitate historical work, we also propose web-based user interfaces that
help geocode (one address or batch mode) and display over current or historical
topographical maps, so that they can be checked and collaboratively edited. The
system is tested on Paris city for the 19-20th centuries, shows high returns
rate and is fast enough to be used interactively.Comment: WORKING PAPE

On Metrics for Location-Aware Games
Metrics are important and well-known tools to measure usersâ behavior in games, and gameplay in general. Particularities of location-aware gamesâa class of games where the playerâs location plays a central role-demand specific support in metrics to adequately address the spatio-temporal features such games exhibit. In this article, we analyse and discuss how existing game analytics platforms address the spatio-temporal features of location-aware games. Our analysis reveals that little support is available. Next, based on the analysis, we propose a classification of spatial metrics, embedded in existing literature, and discuss three types of spatial metrics-point-, trajectory- and area-based metrics-, and elaborate examples and difficulties. Finally, we discuss how spatial metrics may be deployed to improve gameplay in location-aware games
Contextual Social Networking
The thesis centers around the multi-faceted research question of how contexts may
be detected and derived that can be used for new context aware Social Networking
services and for improving the usefulness of existing Social Networking services, giving
rise to the notion of Contextual Social Networking. In a first foundational part,
we characterize the closely related fields of Contextual-, Mobile-, and Decentralized
Social Networking using different methods and focusing on different detailed
aspects. A second part focuses on the question of how short-term and long-term
social contexts as especially interesting forms of context for Social Networking may
be derived. We focus on NLP based methods for the characterization of social relations
as a typical form of long-term social contexts and on Mobile Social Signal
Processing methods for deriving short-term social contexts on the basis of geometry
of interaction and audio. We furthermore investigate, how personal social agents
may combine such social context elements on various levels of abstraction. The third
part discusses new and improved context aware Social Networking service concepts.
We investigate special forms of awareness services, new forms of social information
retrieval, social recommender systems, context aware privacy concepts and services
and platforms supporting Open Innovation and creative processes.

Die (noch nicht abgeschlossene) erfolgreiche Umsetzung dieses Programmes fĂŒhrt auf ein Konzept, das man als Contextual Social Networking bezeichnen kann. In einem grundlegenden ersten Teil werden die eng zusammenhĂ€ngenden Gebiete Contextual Social Networking, Mobile Social Networking und Decentralized Social Networking mit verschiedenen Methoden und unter Fokussierung auf verschiedene Detail-Aspekte nĂ€her beleuchtet und in Zusammenhang gesetzt. Ein zweiter Teil behandelt die Frage, wie soziale Kurzzeit- und Langzeit-Kontexte als fĂŒr das Social Networking besonders interessante Formen von Kontext gemessen und abgeleitet werden können. Ontology-Based Consistent Specification of Sensor Data Acquisition Plans in Cross-Domain IoT Platforms
Nowadays there is an high number of IoT applications that seldom can interact with each other because developed within different Vertical IoT Platforms that adopt different standards. Several efforts are devoted to the construction of cross-layered frameworks that facilitate the interoperability among cross-domain IoT platforms for the development of horizontal applications. Even if their realization poses different challenges across all layers of the network stack, in this paper we focus on the interoperability issues that arise at the data management layer. Specifically, starting from a flexible multi-granular Spatio-Temporal-Thematic data model according to which events generated by different kinds of sensors can be represented, we propose a Semantic Virtualization approach according to which the sensors belonging to different IoT platforms and the schema of the produced event streams are described in a Domain Ontology, obtained through the extension of the well-known Semantic Sensor Network ontology. Then, these sensors can be exploited for the creation of Data Acquisition Plans by means of which the streams of events can be filtered, merged, and aggregated in a meaningful way. A notion of consistency is introduced to bind the output streams of the services contained in the Data Acquisition Plan with the Domain Ontology in order to provide a semantic description of its final output. When these plans meet the consistency constraints, it means that the data they handle are well described at the Ontological level and thus the data acquisition process over passed the interoperability barriers occurring in the original sources. The facilities of the StreamLoader prototype are finally presented for supporting the user in the Semantic Virtualization process and for the construction of meaningful Data Acquisition Plans
Managing uncertainty in integrated environmental modelling:the UncertWeb framework
Web-based distributed modelling architectures are gaining increasing recognition as potentially useful tools to build holistic environmental models, combining individual components in complex workflows. However, existing web-based modelling frameworks currently offer no support for managing uncertainty. On the other hand, the rich array of modelling frameworks and simulation tools which support uncertainty propagation in complex and chained models typically lack the benefits of web based solutions such as ready publication, discoverability and easy access. In this article we describe the developments within the UncertWeb project which are designed to provide uncertainty support in the context of the proposed âModel Webâ. We give an overview of uncertainty in modelling, review uncertainty management in existing modelling frameworks and consider the semantic and interoperability issues raised by integrated modelling. We describe the scope and architecture required to support uncertainty management as developed in UncertWeb. This includes tools which support elicitation, aggregation/disaggregation, visualisation and uncertainty/sensitivity analysis. We conclude by highlighting areas that require further research and development in UncertWeb, such as model calibration and inference within complex environmental models
