    Contexts and Contributions: Building the Distributed Library

    This report updates and expands on A Survey of Digital Library Aggregation Services, originally commissioned by the DLF as an internal report in summer 2003, and released to the public later that year. It highlights major developments affecting the ecosystem of scholarly communications and digital libraries since the last survey and provides an analysis of OAI implementation demographics, based on a comparative review of repository registries and cross-archive search services. Secondly, it reviews the state-of-practice for a cohort of digital library aggregation services, grouping them in the context of the problem space to which they most closely adhere. Based in part on responses collected in fall 2005 from an online survey distributed to the original core services, the report investigates the purpose, function and challenges of next-generation aggregation services. On a case-by-case basis, the advances in each service are of interest in isolation from each other, but the report also attempts to situate these services in a larger context and to understand how they fit into a multi-dimensional and interdependent ecosystem supporting the worldwide community of scholars. Finally, the report summarizes the contributions of these services thus far and identifies obstacles requiring further attention to realize the goal of an open, distributed digital library system

    Based on the information provided by European projects and national initiatives related to multimedia search as well as domains experts that participated in the CHORUS Think-thanks and workshops, this document reports on the state of the art related to multimedia content search from, a technical, and socio-economic perspective. The technical perspective includes an up to date view on content based indexing and retrieval technologies, multimedia search in the context of mobile devices and peer-to-peer networks, and an overview of current evaluation and benchmark inititiatives to measure the performance of multimedia search engines. From a socio-economic perspective we inventorize the impact and legal consequences of these technical advances and point out future directions of research

    Congenial Web Search : A Conceptual Framework for Personalized, Collaborative, and Social Peer-to-Peer Retrieval

    Traditional information retrieval methods fail to address the fact that information consumption and production are social activities. Most Web search engines do not consider the social-cultural environment of users' information needs and the collaboration between users. This dissertation addresses a new search paradigm for Web information retrieval denoted as Congenial Web Search. It emphasizes personalization, collaboration, and socialization methods in order to improve effectiveness. The client-server architecture of Web search engines only allows the consumption of information. A peer-to-peer system architecture has been developed in this research to improve information seeking. Each user is involved in an interactive process to produce meta-information. Based on a personalization strategy on each peer, the user is supported to give explicit feedback for relevant documents. His information need is expressed by a query that is stored in a Peer Search Memory. On one hand, query-document associations are incorporated in a personalized ranking method for repeated information needs. The performance is shown in a known-item retrieval setting. On the other hand, explicit feedback of each user is useful to discover collaborative information needs. A new method for a controlled grouping of query terms, links, and users was developed to maintain Virtual Knowledge Communities. The quality of this grouping represents the effectiveness of grouped terms and links. Both strategies, personalization and collaboration, tackle the problem of a missing socialization among searchers. Finally, a concept for integrated information seeking was developed. This incorporates an integrated representation to improve effectiveness of information retrieval and information filtering. An integrated information retrieval process explores a virtual search network of Peer Search Memories in order to accomplish a reputation-based ranking. In addition, the community structure is considered by an integrated information filtering process. Both concepts have been evaluated and shown to have a better performance than traditional techniques.     On-line Metasearch, Pooling, and System Evaluation

    This thesis presents a unified method for simultaneous solution of three problems in Information Retrieval--- metasearch (the fusion of ranked lists returned by retrieval systems to elicit improved performance), efficient system evaluation (the accurate evaluation of retrieval systems with small numbers of relevance judgements), and pooling or ``active sample selection (the selection of documents for manual judgement in order to develop sample pools of high precision or pools suitable for assessing system quality). The thesis establishes a unified theoretical framework for addressing these three problems and naturally generalizes their solution to the on-line context by incorporating feedback in the form of relevance judgements. The algorithm--- Rankhedge for on-line retrieval, metasearch and system evaluation--- is the first to address these three problems simultaneously and also to generalize their solution to the on-line context. Optimality of the Rankhedge algorithm is developed via Bayesian and maximum entropy interpretations. Results of the algorithm prove to be significantly superior to previous methods when tested over a range of TREC (Text REtrieval Conference) data. In the absence of feedback, the technique equals or exceeds the performance of benchmark metasearch algorithms such as CombMNZ and Condorcet. The technique then dramatically improves on this performance during the on-line metasearch process. In addition, the technique generates pools of documents which include more relevant documents and produce more accurate system evaluations than previous techniques. The thesis includes an information-theoretic examination of the original Hedge algorithm as well as its adaptation to the context of ranked lists. The work also addresses the concept of information-theoretic similarity within the Rankhedge context and presents a method for decorrelating the predictor set to improve worst case performance. Finally, an information-theoretically optimal method for probabilistic ``active sampling is presented with possible application to a broad range of practical and theoretical contexts

It is part of the Tryp brand and in turn is part of the Meliá hotel chain. It is dedicated to hosting and holding meetings and special events. Hotel is aimed at both private clients (couples and families) for leisure and business clients. Its competitive advantage is characterized by offering a service of excellence and quality. The company is backed by 20 years of experience and being the best rated hotel in Booking among the competition in Castellón de la Plana as of May 24, 2020. It has a presence in social networks but it is not constant in frequency of content; we consider that it has great room for improvement. In 2018, its operating income and profits stood at 3,167,340 and 31,892 euros; respectively. In this COVID-19 crisis, tourism and hotel sector experiences high uncertainty. However, studies predict that return of demand will be gradual and made by domestic or national tourism. The hotel must turn this crisis into an opportunity to demonstrate social responsibility and humanity in its brand image. In this confinement, digital media traffic has skyrocketed and so we will focus on proposing digital objectives and actions. Emphasize that we have taken into account the crisis situation for coronavirus and the Marketing Plan has been structured due to timing. The specific SMART objectives are focused on promoting the Tryp brand image of Meliá, increasing: direct sales (20%), number of qualified leads (15%) and mailing opening rate (25%). In addition, building long-term relationships with clients and educating public in the tourism and hotel sector. The budget of the Action Plan is set at 2,813.93 euros. We propose 11 marketing actions, mostly digital, that require little or no investment. The proposals requiring investment are: coronavirus hygienic stand (3.55 %), creation of breakfast boxes (3.55 %), SEM on Google (30.34 %), Social Ads (16.34 %), e- mailing (17.76 %) and sponsor event (28.42 %). The free proposals are free cancellations, discount for confirming reservation, up-selling and cross-selling strategies. Also create a blog, create content on social networks and new booking channels by phone or WhatsApp. The actions have been implemented in time to achieve the above objectives

    A Method to Screen, Assess, and Prepare Open Data for Use

    Open data's value-creating capabilities and innovation potential are widely recognized, resulting in a notable increase in the number of published open data sources. A crucial challenge for companies intending to leverage open data is to identify suitable open datasets that support specific business scenarios and prepare these datasets for use. Researchers have developed several open data assessment techniques, but those are restricted in scope, do not consider the use context, and are not embedded in the complete set of activities required for open data consumption in enterprises. Therefore, our research aims to develop prescriptive knowledge in the form of a meaningful method to screen, assess, and prepare open data for use in an enterprise setting. Our findings complement existing open data assessment techniques by providing methodological guidance to prepare open data of uncertain quality for use in a value-adding and demand-oriented manner, enabled by knowledge graphs and linked data concepts. From an academic perspective, our research conceptualizes open data preparation as a purposeful and value-creating process
