A Design Science Research Approach to Smart and Collaborative Urban Supply Networks
Urban supply networks are facing increasing demands and challenges and thus constitute a relevant field for research and practical development. Supply chain management holds enormous potential and relevance for society and everyday life as the flow of goods and information are important economic functions. Being a heterogeneous field, the literature base of supply chain management research is difficult to manage and navigate. Disruptive digital technologies and the implementation of cross-network information analysis and sharing drive the need for new organisational and technological approaches. Practical issues are manifold and include mega trends such as digital transformation, urbanisation, and environmental awareness.
A promising approach to solving these problems is the realisation of smart and collaborative supply networks. The growth of artificial intelligence applications in recent years has led to a wide range of applications in a variety of domains. However, the potential of artificial intelligence utilisation in supply chain management has not yet been fully exploited. Similarly, value creation increasingly takes place in networked value creation cycles that have become continuously more collaborative, complex, and dynamic as interactions in business processes involving information technologies have become more intense.
Following a design science research approach this cumulative thesis comprises the development and discussion of four artefacts for the analysis and advancement of smart and collaborative urban supply networks. This thesis aims to highlight the potential of artificial intelligence-based supply networks, to advance data-driven inter-organisational collaboration, and to improve last mile supply network sustainability. Based on thorough machine learning and systematic literature reviews, reference and system dynamics modelling, simulation, and qualitative empirical research, the artefacts provide a valuable contribution to research and practice
„Ich war mutig“: Eine qualitative Studie zur Rekonstruktion kindlicher Perspektiven auf Erfahrungen im pferdegestützten Setting
Das vorliegende kumulative Dissertationsprojekt besteht aus fünf Fachbeiträgen und befasst sich mit pferdegestützten Interventionen aus der Perspektive von Kindern.
Zunächst wird eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit dem Forschungsfeld tiergestützter Interventionen vorgenommen, da hier häufig Erklärungsansätze herangezogen werden, die wissenschaftlich nicht abgesichert sind. Diese Ansätze sollen in der eigenen Arbeit nicht reproduziert werden.
Für die Erhebung des Forschungsstandes werden Studien herangezogen, welche sich mit der psychischen, sozialen und emotionalen Wirkung pferdegestützter Interventionen bei Kindern befassen. Das bearbeitete Forschungsdesiderat ergab sich aus der Betrachtung bestehender Studien, da die Kinderperspektive in diesem Zusammenhang bisher kaum wissenschaftlich betrachtet wurde.
Um zu verstehen, was für Kinder an pferdegestützten Interventionen relevant ist, wird ein Forschungsdesign verwendet, welches die Kinder in den Forschungsprozess einbezieht, sodass sie ihre eigenen Relevanzen explizieren können. Somit wird eine neue Perspektive auf bestehende Forschungsergebnisse eröffnet, welche ein tieferes Verständnis für die Wirkweisen pferdegestützter Interventionen bietet und die Möglichkeit zur Evaluation der praktischen Durchführung beinhaltet.
Die Ergebnisse beruhen auf der Befragung von 23 Kindern die wöchentlich an einer pferdegestützten Intervention teilnahmen. Die meisten der Kinder lebten zum Zeitpunkt des Interviews in Einrichtungen der Kinder- und Jugendhilfe und nicht bei ihren Familien und standen somit unter erhöhter psychosozialer Belastung.
Wie Kinder pferdegestützte Förderung wahrnehmen, wird mit Hilfe von offenen Leitfadeninterviews und der Grounded Theory herausgearbeitet.
Als zusätzliche Ausdrucksmöglichkeit der Kinder wurden Bilder, die sie vom pferdegestützten Setting malten, als ergänzendes Material genutzt und mittels Segmentanalyse ausgewertet.
Am Ende der Arbeit ist festzuhalten, dass in pferdegestützten Interventionen, mit dem Ziel der Förderung von mentaler Gesundheit, reitpädagogische Fachkräfte Situationen mit Pferden konstruieren, die das interpersonale Vertrauen und das Selbstvertrauen von Kindern stärken, indem gezielt die Bewältigung von Herausforderungen mit dem Pferd unterstützend angeleitet wird. Insbesondere die zentrale Rolle der reitpädagogischen Fachkraft sowie relevante Wirkfaktoren werden vertieft betrachtet
Examples of works to practice staccato technique in clarinet instrument
Klarnetin staccato tekniğini güçlendirme aşamaları eser çalışmalarıyla uygulanmıştır. Staccato
geçişlerini hızlandıracak ritim ve nüans çalışmalarına yer verilmiştir. Çalışmanın en önemli amacı
sadece staccato çalışması değil parmak-dilin eş zamanlı uyumunun hassasiyeti üzerinde de
durulmasıdır. Staccato çalışmalarını daha verimli hale getirmek için eser çalışmasının içinde etüt
çalışmasına da yer verilmiştir. Çalışmaların üzerinde titizlikle durulması staccato çalışmasının ilham
verici etkisi ile müzikal kimliğe yeni bir boyut kazandırmıştır. Sekiz özgün eser çalışmasının her
aşaması anlatılmıştır. Her aşamanın bir sonraki performans ve tekniği güçlendirmesi esas alınmıştır.
Bu çalışmada staccato tekniğinin hangi alanlarda kullanıldığı, nasıl sonuçlar elde edildiği bilgisine
yer verilmiştir. Notaların parmak ve dil uyumu ile nasıl şekilleneceği ve nasıl bir çalışma disiplini
içinde gerçekleşeceği planlanmıştır. Kamış-nota-diyafram-parmak-dil-nüans ve disiplin
kavramlarının staccato tekniğinde ayrılmaz bir bütün olduğu saptanmıştır. Araştırmada literatür
taraması yapılarak staccato ile ilgili çalışmalar taranmıştır. Tarama sonucunda klarnet tekniğin de
kullanılan staccato eser çalışmasının az olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Metot taramasında da etüt
çalışmasının daha çok olduğu saptanmıştır. Böylelikle klarnetin staccato tekniğini hızlandırma ve
güçlendirme çalışmaları sunulmuştur. Staccato etüt çalışmaları yapılırken, araya eser çalışmasının
girmesi beyni rahatlattığı ve istekliliği daha arttırdığı gözlemlenmiştir. Staccato çalışmasını yaparken
doğru bir kamış seçimi üzerinde de durulmuştur. Staccato tekniğini doğru çalışmak için doğru bir
kamışın dil hızını arttırdığı saptanmıştır. Doğru bir kamış seçimi kamıştan rahat ses çıkmasına
bağlıdır. Kamış, dil atma gücünü vermiyorsa daha doğru bir kamış seçiminin yapılması gerekliliği
vurgulanmıştır. Staccato çalışmalarında baştan sona bir eseri yorumlamak zor olabilir. Bu açıdan
çalışma, verilen müzikal nüanslara uymanın, dil atış performansını rahatlattığını ortaya koymuştur.
Gelecek nesillere edinilen bilgi ve birikimlerin aktarılması ve geliştirici olması teşvik edilmiştir.
Çıkacak eserlerin nasıl çözüleceği, staccato tekniğinin nasıl üstesinden gelinebileceği anlatılmıştır.
Staccato tekniğinin daha kısa sürede çözüme kavuşturulması amaç edinilmiştir. Parmakların
yerlerini öğrettiğimiz kadar belleğimize de çalışmaların kaydedilmesi önemlidir. Gösterilen azmin ve
sabrın sonucu olarak ortaya çıkan yapıt başarıyı daha da yukarı seviyelere çıkaracaktır
Setting contextual conditions to resolve grand challenges through responsible innovation:A comparative patent analysis in the circular economy

This article draws on responsible innovation (RI) undertaken by hybrid organizations, institutional rigidity, and national innovation systems (NISs) to assess and contextualize the innovation performance of for-profit firms seeking to resolve grand challenges (GCs). The extant research on RI lacks the theoretical underpinnings to profile the unique characteristics of RI firms and the contextual conditions behind the resolution of GCs through RI. This study aims to fill this important gap by focusing on a specific type of RI firm—a firm seeking to reduce climate change through implementation of a circular economy model. By studying a multi-country sample of 1153 manufacturing firms, we implemented propensity score matching (PSM) and the Heckman selection model to compare the patent productivity of RI and non-RI firms. Our evidence demonstrates that RI firms display lower likelihood of patenting and lower patent productivity than non-RI firms when they do engage in patenting. Furthermore, we found that a stronger national R&D environment can be conducive to aligning public interests and private incentives by enabling RI firms to enhance their patent productivity. Additionally, RI firms in industries with lower levels of technological complexity capture more value from improvements in R&D environments than RI firms in industries with higher levels of technological complexity. Imagination as Thought in Aristotle\u27s De Anima
Aristotle appears to indicate in various passages in the De Anima that imagination is a kind of thought, and my thesis attempts to make some sense out of this claim. I examine three possible interpretations of the claim that imagination is a kind of thought and eliminate two of them. The first states that Aristotle only calls imagination a kind of thought in a superficial “in name only” sense. The second, more radical interpretation, identifies images as the most basic kind of thoughts. My final chapter defends a more moderate position—inspired by Avempace and the early Averroes—which steers between the superficial and radical interpretations, by construing the formal content of images as a sort of quasi-corporeal substrate for the generation of learned thoughts
Towards a sociology of conspiracy theories: An investigation into conspiratorial thinking on Dönmes
This thesis investigates the social and political significance of conspiracy theories, which has been an academically neglected topic despite its historical relevance. The academic literature focuses on the methodology, social significance and political impacts of these theories in a secluded manner and lacks empirical analyses. In response, this research provides a comprehensive theoretical framework for conspiracy theories by considering their methodology, political impacts and social significance in the light of empirical data. Theoretically, the thesis uses Adorno's semi-erudition theory along with Girardian approach. It proposes that conspiracy theories are methodologically semi-erudite narratives, i.e. they are biased in favour of a belief and use reason only to prove it. It suggests that conspiracy theories appear in times of power vacuum and provide semi-erudite cognitive maps that relieve alienation and ontological insecurities of people and groups. In so doing, they enforce social control over their audience due to their essentialist, closed-to-interpretation narratives. In order to verify the theory, the study analyses empirically the social and political significance of conspiracy theories about the Dönme community in Turkey. The analysis comprises interviews with conspiracy theorists, conspiracy theory readers and political parties, alongside a frame analysis of the popular conspiracy theory books on Dönmes. These confirm the theoretical framework by showing that the conspiracy theories are fed by the ontological insecurities of Turkish society. Hence, conspiracy theorists, most readers and some political parties respond to their own ontological insecurities and political frustrations through scapegoating Dönmes. Consequently, this work shows that conspiracy theories are important symptoms of society, which, while relieving ontological insecurities, do not provide politically prolific narratives
Potencialidades do uso de uma rede social na aprendizagem de português por falantes chineses
Devido à intensificação da cooperação entre a China e os países lusófonos, a
aprendizagem de Português torna-se cada vez mais fundamental na China
hoje em dia. Sendo uma língua radicalmente diferente da sua primeira língua,
os aprendentes chineses normalmente manifestam um conjunto de
dificuldades em certos aspetos, enquanto a diferença cultural e oportunidades
limitadas de treinar a língua-alvo fora da sala de aula também dificultam a sua
aquisição de Português. Se bem que alguns autores tenham evidenciado a
existência de problemas na aprendizagem dos aprendentes chineses, não
esclareceram as soluções praticáveis. Em conformidade com as caraterísticas
dos estudantes nos dias de hoje, os quais dedicam bastante tempo às redes
sociais na sua vida quotidiana, consideramos que a introdução das
ferramentas sociais pode ser potencialmente uma abordagem razoável para
promover a aprendizagem de Português, o que nos levou a focalizar-nos em
estudar o impacte do uso do Weibo, uma plataforma de microblogue de origem
chinesa, relativamente às capacidades escritas dos aprendentes chineses.
Optámos por aplicar uma triangulação de metodologias para analisar a
participação, motivação, publicações, resultados dos dois testes realizados
antes e depois das atividades e das entrevistas com os participantes, a fim de
obter um entendimento o mais completo possível das potencialidades do
Weibo. Três intervenções foram conduzidas com os objetivos, respetivamente,
de verificar a possibilidade da criação de uma comunidade de aprendizagem
colaborativa mediante a ferramenta selecionada, e identificar a influência da
interação entre os aprendentes chineses e portugueses e entre os chineses e
a docente nativa em relação às capacidades escritas em Português. De acordo
com os resultados atingidos, além de revelarem uma motivação e satisfação
relativamente positivas, os aprendentes participantes geralmente demonstram
um melhor comportamento a respeito da concordância verbal e da morfologia
das palavras, e alguns deles também manifestam um progresso evidente nos
aspetos do uso dos tempos e modos verbais e da concordância nominal de
número. Já os participantes da última intervenção obtêm uma pontuação mais elevada
na compreensão escrita do que os não participantes de modo geral, revelando
as potencialidades e eficiência da aplicação do Weibo na aprendizagem de
Português por falantes chineses. Consideramos que a introdução desta rede
social com estratégia de aprendizagem pode proporcionar influências
positivas, conduzindo à proposta de realização de estudos mais aprofundados
e de uma aplicação mais aturada na prática didática do Português Língua nãoMaterna numa futura etapa de investigação.Due to the intensification of cooperation between China and the Lusophone
nations, nowadays learning Portuguese is becoming increasingly fundamental
in China. As a language which is radically different from their first language,
Chinese learners usually manifest a number of difficulties in certain aspects
while the cultural difference and limited opportunities to practice the target
language outside the classroom also complicate their acquisition of
Portuguese. Although some authors have evidenced the existence of problems
in Chinese learners’ learning, they have not clarified practical solutions. In
accordance with the characteristics of today’s students, who spend a lot of time
on social media in their daily lives, we believe that the introduction of social
tools can potentially be a reasonable approach to promote the learning of
Portuguese. We focus on investigating the impact of using Weibo, a Chinese
microblogging platform, on the writing skills of Chinese learners. We chose to
apply a triangulation of methodologies to analyze the participation, motivation,
posts, results of the two tests carried out before and after the activities and
interviews with participants in order to obtain a comprehensive understanding
of the potential of Weibo. Three interventions were conducted with the
objectives of verifying the possibility of creating a collaborative learning
community by using the selected tool and identifying the influence of the
interaction between Chinese and Portuguese learners and between Chinese
learners and a native teacher in relation to Portuguese writing skills. According
to the results achieved, besides revealing a relatively positive motivation and
satisfaction, participants generally demonstrate better behavior regarding
verbal agreement and spelling and some of them also manifest an evident
progress in using verb tenses and modes and nominal number agreement,
while the participants of the last intervention score generally higher on reading
comprehension than non-participants. These results highlight the possibility and efficiency of applying Weibo with
Chinese speakers who are learning Portuguese. We believe that the
introduction of a social network with an appropriate strategy can bring positive
influences and it is worthy of further research and structured application in

Slavery, Colonialism, and Other Ghosts: Presence and Absence in the Rise of American Sociology, 1895-1905
US sociology has historically denied slavery and colonialism as demanding of sociological study. The roots of this can be examined at the turn of the twentieth century in the early years of the institutionalization of the discipline in American universities. The inattention stems from a white supremacist racial ontology that underpins US sociology in general (embedded in the category of modernity and the category of sociology itself). There are traces or identifiable ‘moments of silencing’ during the first ten years of the American Journal of Sociology (AJS), the discipline’s first professional journal in the US, in which early (white) sociologists hide the colonial and slavery-dependent material roots of modernity behind a “positivistic” philosophy of social science and a mix of the biologically and culturally inflected ideologies of scientific racism. The persistence of the notion of modernity as given and the unconscious positivist epistemology of mainstream US sociology causes it to stall in face of the paralyzing contradiction between a stated interest in addressing inequality and a simultaneous refusal to examine the issues of power and inequality in the conditions of its own founding
Trust Me, I’m an Influencer! - A Comparison of Perceived Trust in Human and Virtual Influencers
Influencers in social media are often perceived as a trusted source for many people which is why companies increasingly promote their products through them. However, influencers can also cause reputational damage for a brand. Virtual (computer-generated) influencers can be used to minimize these risks and to better tailor content to a target group of a company. As trust is one success factor of online marketing, we examine differences in the perception of trust in human and virtual influencers. In a first online survey study, we presented N = 112 participants the content of human and virtual influencers, published on Instagram. Preliminary findings reveal that although participants were often unsure whether the presented influencer was human or computer-generated, perceived trust, social presence, and humanness was consistently rated higher for human influencers. To gain deeper insights into potential, unconscious decision conflicts which can determine trust evaluations, a follow-up neuroimaging study is discussed
