IRIT at TREC 2014 Contextual Suggestion Track
International audienceIn this work, we give an overview of our participation in the TREC 2014 Contextual Suggestion Track. To address the retrieval of attraction places, we propose a fuzzy-based document combination approach for preference learning and context processing.We use the open web in our submission and make use of both criteria users preferences and geographical location criteria
Graph-based Neural Multi-Document Summarization
We propose a neural multi-document summarization (MDS) system that
incorporates sentence relation graphs. We employ a Graph Convolutional Network
(GCN) on the relation graphs, with sentence embeddings obtained from Recurrent
Neural Networks as input node features. Through multiple layer-wise
propagation, the GCN generates high-level hidden sentence features for salience
estimation. We then use a greedy heuristic to extract salient sentences while
avoiding redundancy. In our experiments on DUC 2004, we consider three types of
sentence relation graphs and demonstrate the advantage of combining sentence
relations in graphs with the representation power of deep neural networks. Our
model improves upon traditional graph-based extractive approaches and the
vanilla GRU sequence model with no graph, and it achieves competitive results
against other state-of-the-art multi-document summarization systems.Comment: In CoNLL 201
Data Mining in Electronic Commerce
Modern business is rushing toward e-commerce. If the transition is done
properly, it enables better management, new services, lower transaction costs
and better customer relations. Success depends on skilled information
technologists, among whom are statisticians. This paper focuses on some of the
contributions that statisticians are making to help change the business world,
especially through the development and application of data mining methods. This
is a very large area, and the topics we cover are chosen to avoid overlap with
other papers in this special issue, as well as to respect the limitations of
our expertise. Inevitably, electronic commerce has raised and is raising fresh
research problems in a very wide range of statistical areas, and we try to

International audienceThe explosion of web 2.0 and social networks has created an enormous and rewarding source of information that has motivated researchers in different fields to exploit it. Our work revolves around the issue of access and identification of social information and their use in building a user profile enriched with a social dimension, and operating in a process of personalization and recommendation. We study several approaches of Social IR (Information Retrieval), distinguished by the type of incorporated social information. We also study various social recommendation approaches classified by the type of recommendation. We then present a study of techniques for modeling the social user profile dimension, followed by a critical discussion. Thus, we propose our social recommendation approach integrating an advanced social user profile model.L’explosion du web 2.0 et des réseaux sociaux a crée une source d’information énorme et enrichissante qui a motivé les chercheurs dans différents domaines à l’exploiter. Notre travail s’articule autour de la problématique d’accès et d’identification des informations sociales et leur exploitation dans la construction d’un profil utilisateur enrichi d’une dimension sociale, et son exploitation dans un processus de personnalisation et de recommandation. Nous étudions différentes approches sociales de RI (Recherche d’Information), distinguées par le type d’informations sociales incorporées. Nous étudions également diverses approches de recommandation sociale classées par le type de recommandation. Nous exposons ensuite une étude des techniques de modélisation de la dimension sociale du profil utilisateur, suivie par une discussion critique. iAggregator: Multidimensional Relevance Aggregation Based on a Fuzzy Operator
International audienceRecently, an increasing number of information retrieval studies have triggered a resurgence of interest in redefining the algorithmic estimation of relevance, which implies a shift from topical to multidimensional relevance assessment. A key underlying aspect that emerged when addressing this concept is the aggregation of the relevance assessments related to each of the considered dimensions. The most commonly adopted forms of aggregation are based on classical weighted means and linear combination schemes to address this issue. Although some initiatives were recently proposed, none was concerned with considering the inherent dependencies and interactions existing among the relevance criteria, as is the case in many real-life applications. In this article, we present a new fuzzy-based operator, called iAggregator, for multidimensional relevance aggregation. Its main originality, beyond its ability to model interactions between different relevance criteria, lies in its generalization of many classical aggregation functions. To validate our proposal, we apply our operator within a tweet search task. Experiments using a standard benchmark, namely, Text REtrieval Conference Microblog,1 emphasize the relevance of our contribution when compared with traditional aggregation schemes. In addition, it outperforms state-of-the-art aggregation operators such as the Scoring and the And prioritized operators as well as some representative learning-to-rank algorithms
