Seleclting Middleware for N-tier applications
This paper describes middleware for n-tier architecture, describes how this middleware is meeting the unique demands of Internet applications and e-commerce, and suggests selection guidelines to assist business managers in choosing appropriate types of middleware for n-tier systems that will meet their internet needs. Different types of middleware provide the functionality for addressing many distinct and disparate problems arising from the distributed processing associated with n-tier systems. This paper associates the type of middleware with the nature of the system being developed
STATE-OF-THE-ART OF MESSAGING FOR DISTRIBUTED COMPUTING SYSTEMS
Modern software applications rarely live in isolation and nowadays it is common practice to rely on services or consume information provided by remote entities. In such a distributed architecture, integration is key. Messaging, for more than a decade, is the reference solution to tackle challenges of a distributed nature, such as network unreliability, strong-coupling of producers and consumers and the heterogeneity of applications. Thanks to a strong community and a common effort towards standards and consolidation, message brokers are today the transport layer building blocks in many projects and services, both within the physics community and outside.
Moreover, in recent years, a new generation of messaging services has appeared, with a focus on low-latency and high-performance use cases, pushing the boundaries of messaging applications. This paper will present messaging solutions for distributed applications going through an overview of the main concepts, technologies and services
Peer-to-Peer EnergyTrade: A Distributed Private Energy Trading Platform
Blockchain is increasingly being used as a distributed, anonymous, trustless
framework for energy trading in smart grids. However, most of the existing
solutions suffer from reliance on Trusted Third Parties (TTP), lack of privacy,
and traffic and processing overheads. In our previous work, we have proposed a
Secure Private Blockchain-based framework (SPB) for energy trading to address
the aforementioned challenges. In this paper, we present a proof-on-concept
implementation of SPB on the Ethereum private network to demonstrates SPB's
applicability for energy trading. We benchmark SPB's performance against the
relevant state-of-the-art. The implementation results demonstrate that SPB
incurs lower overheads and monetary cost for end users to trade energy compared
to existing solutions
