Cross-layer Balanced and Reliable Opportunistic Routing Algorithm for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
For improving the efficiency and the reliability of the opportunistic routing
algorithm, in this paper, we propose the cross-layer and reliable opportunistic
routing algorithm (CBRT) for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks, which introduces the
improved efficiency fuzzy logic and humoral regulation inspired topology
control into the opportunistic routing algorithm. In CBRT, the inputs of the
fuzzy logic system are the relative variance (rv) of the metrics rather than
the values of the metrics, which reduces the number of fuzzy rules
dramatically. Moreover, the number of fuzzy rules does not increase when the
number of inputs increases. For reducing the control cost, in CBRT, the node
degree in the candidate relays set is a range rather than a constant number.
The nodes are divided into different categories based on their node degree in
the candidate relays set. The nodes adjust their transmission range based on
which categories that they belong to. Additionally, for investigating the
effection of the node mobility on routing performance, we propose a link
lifetime prediction algorithm which takes both the moving speed and moving
direction into account. In CBRT, the source node determines the relaying
priorities of the relaying nodes based on their utilities. The relaying node
which the utility is large will have high priority to relay the data packet. By
these innovations, the network performance in CBRT is much better than that in

Demonstration of adaptive overcurrent protection using IEC 61850 communications
This paper contains a description of an adaptive protection scheme that has been implemented and demonstrated in a hardware in the loop simulation environment using commercially available protection hardware and IEC 61850 communications.The implementation is based on an actual 11kV system which includes distributed generation and network automation. IEC 61850 communications offers several benefits for the implementation of adaptive protection, but also presents some limitations which are discussed in the paper. An alternative approach to overcome a number of the limitations is also presented
WiLiTV: A Low-Cost Wireless Framework for Live TV Services
With the evolution of HDTV and Ultra HDTV, the bandwidth requirement for
IP-based TV content is rapidly increasing. Consumers demand uninterrupted
service with a high Quality of Experience (QoE). Service providers are
constantly trying to differentiate themselves by innovating new ways of
distributing content more efficiently with lower cost and higher penetration.
In this work, we propose a cost-efficient wireless framework (WiLiTV) for
delivering live TV services, consisting of a mix of wireless access
technologies (e.g. Satellite, WiFi and LTE overlay links). In the proposed
architecture, live TV content is injected into the network at a few residential
locations using satellite dishes. The content is then further distributed to
other homes using a house-to-house WiFi network or via an overlay LTE network.
Our problem is to construct an optimal TV distribution network with the minimum
number of satellite injection points, while preserving the highest QoE, for
different neighborhood densities. We evaluate the framework using realistic
time-varying demand patterns and a diverse set of home location data. Our study
demonstrates that the architecture requires 75 - 90% fewer satellite injection
points, compared to traditional architectures. Furthermore, we show that most
cost savings can be obtained using simple and practical relay routing
solutions
