A Biosymtic (Biosymbiotic Robotic) Approach to Human Development and Evolution. The Echo of the Universe.
In the present work we demonstrate that the current Child-Computer Interaction
paradigm is not potentiating human development to its fullest – it is associated with
several physical and mental health problems and appears not to be maximizing children’s
cognitive performance and cognitive development. In order to potentiate children’s
physical and mental health (including cognitive performance and cognitive development)
we have developed a new approach to human development and evolution.
This approach proposes a particular synergy between the developing human body,
computing machines and natural environments. It emphasizes that children should be
encouraged to interact with challenging physical environments offering multiple possibilities
for sensory stimulation and increasing physical and mental stress to the organism.
We created and tested a new set of computing devices in order to operationalize
our approach – Biosymtic (Biosymbiotic Robotic) devices: “Albert” and “Cratus”. In
two initial studies we were able to observe that the main goal of our approach is being
achieved. We observed that, interaction with the Biosymtic device “Albert”, in a natural
environment, managed to trigger a different neurophysiological response (increases
in sustained attention levels) and tended to optimize episodic memory performance in
children, compared to interaction with a sedentary screen-based computing device, in
an artificially controlled environment (indoors) - thus a promising solution to promote
cognitive performance/development; and that interaction with the Biosymtic device
“Cratus”, in a natural environment, instilled vigorous physical activity levels in children
- thus a promising solution to promote physical and mental health

Mobilne komunikacije su polje informacione i komunikacione tehnologije koje karakteriše brzi
razvoj i u kome se istraživanjem u analitičkim okvirima kognitivne lingvistike, zasnovanom na
uzorku od 1005 odrednica, otkriva izrazito prisustvo metafore, metonimije, analogije i
pojmovnog objedinjavanja. Analiza uzorka reči i izraza iz oblasti mobilnih medija, mobilnih
operativnih sistema, dizajna korisničkih interfejsa, terminologije mobilnih mreža, kao i slenga
i tekstizama koje upotrebljavaju korisnici mobilnih naprava ukazuje da pomenuti kognitivni
mehanizmi imaju ključnu ulogu u olakšavanju interakcije između ljudi i širokog spektra
mobilnih uređaja sa računarskim sposobnostima, od prenosivih računara i ličnih digitalnih
asistenata (PDA), do mobilnih telefona, tableta i sprava koje se nose na telu. Ti mehanizmi
predstavljaju temelj razumevanja i nalaze se u osnovi principa funkcionisanja grafičkih
korisničkih interfejsa i direktne manipulacije u računarskim okruženjima. Takođe je analiziran
i poseban uzorak od 660 emotikona i emođija koji pokazuju potencijal za proširenje značenja,
imajući u vidu značaj piktograma za tekstualnu komunikaciju u vidu SMS poruka i razmenu
tekstualnih sadržaja na društvenim mrežama kojima se redovno pristupa putem mobilnih
uređaja...Mobile communications are a fast-developing field of information and communication
technology whose exploration within the analytical framework of cognitive linguistics, based
on a sample of 1005 entries, reveals the pervasive presence of metaphor, metonymy analogy
and conceptual integration. The analysis of the sample consisting of words and phrases
related to mobile media, mobile operating systems and interface design, the terminology of
mobile networking, as well as the slang and textisms employed by mobile gadget users shows
that the above cognitive mechanisms play a key role in facilitating interaction between people
and a wide range of mobile computing devices from laptops and PDAs to mobile phones,
tablets and wearables. They are the cornerstones of comprehension that are behind the
principles of functioning of graphical user interfaces and direct manipulation in computing
environments. A separate sample, featuring a selection of 660 emoticons and emoji, exhibiting
the potential for semantic expansion was also analyzed, in view of the significance of
pictograms for text-based communication in the form of text messages or exchanges on social
media sites regularly accessed via mobile devices..
Vision 21: Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering in the Era of Cyberspace
The symposium Vision-21: Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering in the Era of Cyberspace was held at the NASA Lewis Research Center on March 30-31, 1993. The purpose of the symposium was to simulate interdisciplinary thinking in the sciences and technologies which will be required for exploration and development of space over the next thousand years. The keynote speakers were Hans Moravec, Vernor Vinge, Carol Stoker, and Myron Krueger. The proceedings consist of transcripts of the invited talks and the panel discussion by the invited speakers, summaries of workshop sessions, and contributed papers by the attendees

come out with yet another such document? Moreover, any text aiming at explaining the Digital
Transformation by presenting a snapshot is going to become obsolete in a blink of an eye, most likely to
be already obsolete at the time it is first published.
The FDC Initiative on Digital Reality felt there is a need to look at the Digital Transformation from the
point of view of a profound change that is pervading the entire society—a change made possible by
technology and that keeps changing due to technology evolution opening new possibilities but is also a
change happening because it has strong economic reasons. The direction of this change is not easy to
predict because it is steered by a cultural evolution of society, an evolution that is happening in niches
and that may expand rapidly to larger constituencies and as rapidly may fade away. This creation,
selection by experimentation, adoption, and sudden disappearance, is what makes the whole scenario
