    Get PDF
Purpose – This paper's aim it to analyze added value that the theses e-submission system (tool) gave to the NTUA IR service. Design/methodology/approach – The paper describes the e-submission tool, its procedures and evaluates its use. Findings – The tool improved the IR service, which can be certified by the continuing evaluation process. This process produced the following main results: the automated batch importing feature should be integrated into the e-submission system; IR service tutorials should be given to the secretariats, faculty and students; and in-house service marketing should be conducted. Research limitations/implications – The present study provides a starting-point for further research in DL open source software. Originality/value – The paper shows that the tool helped NTUA users in submitting their e-theses, and the IR staff in organizing efficiently the service workflow and the data integration into the DSpace system. The process weaknesses rectifications will enhanse the service and allow its broadness to all NTUA departments. This tool implementation may start a debate to the DSpace community in using proxies between DSpace platform and the end user, as an alternative

Open Access Infrastructure in Greece : Current Status, Challenges and Perspectives

    Get PDF
Open access (OA) is a global movement to make research results widely available by removing price and permission barriers. OA infrastructure is necessary for implementing open access and open science in any country. The aim of the present paper is twofold: (i) to give a description of the Greek OA infrastructure with emphasis on academic repositories and OA journals, and (ii) to examined the OA availability of publications authored by Greek researchers and published in international journals. Results indicated that Open access infrastructures in Greece have been steadily improving over the past years, with 28 out of 36 HEIs running their own IR and 116 OA journals being published. The OA availability of the literature produced by Greek researchers is similar to that found in other studies and falls within the range that has been reported for European countries. Although numbers seem rather satisfactory, there are a number of challenges that have to be addressed at both the infrastructural and the policy level, the most important being the implementation of national open policies and funders mandates

Decentralization Process of Rural Development Policy in Greece

    Get PDF
The decentralization process of national administrative systems, the continuous evolution of structural policies in the EU and the increasing reinforcement of the second Pillar of the Common Agricultural Policy, create an entirely new setting in the field of rural policy making and implementation. A significant decentralization process of agricultural and rural development policies is taking place in Greece, by means of the establishment of a novel institutional framework and reallocation of administrative competencies. Drawing upon a case study of the farm modernization scheme, a pivotal rural development policy measure, this study aims at critically assessing the decentralization process of rural policy making and delivery in Greece within the new institutional and administrative setting. Research findings indicate that despite remarkable decentralization efforts, rural development in Greece seems to maintain its primarily state-emanated design and implementation, in a centralized logic. Long standing top-down and sectoral orientation in the formulation of this policy still holds, permeating the attitude of a number of actors, whose traditional role is challenged in the new setting. The redistribution of responsibilities and the mere multiplication of competent authorities do not necessarily advance the policy outcomes. What is needed as well is a genuine delegation of competencies and resources, coupled with a renewed awareness of integrated policies from the actors involved at all administrative levels.

Using USB Devices for Online Document Storage in Worcester Business School

    Get PDF
The Worcester Business School (WBS) is migrating from paper-based assignment submission to electronic submission and feedback. Currently, no policies or procedures exist for staff and tutors to effectively manage the administration document storage for this process, thus creating confusion and lack of effectiveness among stakeholders. This project report suggests a method for managing the administration portion of the e-submission/feedback procedure using USB devices for online storage

Student and Faculty Views of Important Elements of Teaching in Associate Level Allied Health Programs

    Get PDF
Teaching requires constant adapting, and need to continually reflect, and be ready to make changes when teaching elements may not prove effective. The purpose of this study was to examine faculty and student views of effective elements of teaching in an associate level allied health program. Surveys were collected from associate degree seeking allied health students and full-time faculty currently employed at a technical college in the northeastern region of the state of Georgia. The results showed a high confidence level with little to no difference in mean confidence levels between faculty and student responses on 15 Likert-scaled questions. Two open-ended questions showed little difference as well with faculty and students having similar responses when asked their preferred teaching/learning method. Results of this study will help to improve educational instruction for allied health programs
