In recent decades, the construction sector has faced many changes. One of these changes is the shift in the role of national government from one-sided practices in which the government was solely responsible for strategic and long-term spatial planning to a multi-actor and multi-level arena. One outcome was a rearrangement of the balance between public and private responsibilities. This has led to new procurement routes and contracts as Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and Public Private Partnerships (PPP), as well as to a more performance-oriented client (both public and private). At the same time, construction firms changed their strategic focus from cost efficiency to adding value for money for the client, resulting in new contract forms such as Design & Construct (D&C), Building, Operate & Transfer (BOT) and variants there from. So far, governments of most European countries have their own restrictive specifications for the use of building materials
User involvement in healthcare technology development and assessment: Structured literature review
Purpose – Medical device users are one of the principal stakeholders of medical device technologies. User involvement in medical device technology development and assessment is central to meet their needs.
Design/methodology/approach – A structured review of literature, published from 1980 to 2005 in peer-reviewed journals, was carried out from social science perspective to investigate the practice of user involvement in the development and assessment of medical device technologies. This was followed by qualitative thematic analysis.
Findings – It is found that users of medical devices include clinicians, patients, carers and others. Different kinds of medical devices are developed and assessed by user involvement. The user involvement occurs at different stages of the medical device technology lifecycle and the degree of user involvement is in the order of design stage > testing and trials stage > deployment stage > concept stage. Methods most commonly used for capturing users’ perspectives are usability tests, interviews and questionnaire surveys.
Research limitations/implications – We did not review the relevant literature published in engineering, medical and nursing fields, which might have been useful.
Practical implications – Consideration of the users’ characteristics and the context of medical device use is critical for developing and assessing medical device technologies from users’ perspectives.
Originality/value – This study shows that users of medical device technologies are not homogeneous but heterogeneous, in several aspects, and their needs, skills and working environments vary. This is important consideration for incorporating users’ perspectives in medical device technologies.

Process Calculi Abstractions for Biology
Several approaches have been proposed to model biological systems by means of the formal techniques and tools available in computer science. To mention just a few of them, some representations are inspired by Petri Nets theory, and some other by stochastic processes. A most recent approach consists in interpreting the living entities as terms of process calculi where the behavior of the represented systems can be inferred by applying syntax-driven rules. A comprehensive picture of the state of the art of the process calculi approach to biological modeling is still missing. This paper goes in the direction of providing such a picture by presenting a comparative survey of the process calculi that have been used and proposed to describe the behavior of living entities. Dichotomy Results for Fixed Point Counting in Boolean Dynamical Systems
We present dichotomy theorems regarding the computational complexity of
counting fixed points in boolean (discrete) dynamical systems, i.e., finite
discrete dynamical systems over the domain {0,1}. For a class F of boolean
functions and a class G of graphs, an (F,G)-system is a boolean dynamical
system with local transitions functions lying in F and graphs in G. We show
that, if local transition functions are given by lookup tables, then the
following complexity classification holds: Let F be a class of boolean
functions closed under superposition and let G be a graph class closed under
taking minors. If F contains all min-functions, all max-functions, or all
self-dual and monotone functions, and G contains all planar graphs, then it is
#P-complete to compute the number of fixed points in an (F,G)-system; otherwise
it is computable in polynomial time. We also prove a dichotomy theorem for the
case that local transition functions are given by formulas (over logical
bases). This theorem has a significantly more complicated structure than the
theorem for lookup tables. A corresponding theorem for boolean circuits

An Example of Pi^0_3-complete Infinitary Rational Relation
We give in this paper an example of infinitary rational relation, accepted by
a 2-tape B\"{u}chi automaton, which is Pi^0_3-complete in the Borel hierarchy.
Moreover the example of infinitary rational relation given in this paper has a
very simple structure and can be easily described by its sections
Modelling the Dynamics of an Aedes albopictus Population
We present a methodology for modelling population dynamics with formal means
of computer science. This allows unambiguous description of systems and
application of analysis tools such as simulators and model checkers. In
particular, the dynamics of a population of Aedes albopictus (a species of
mosquito) and its modelling with the Stochastic Calculus of Looping Sequences
(Stochastic CLS) are considered. The use of Stochastic CLS to model population
dynamics requires an extension which allows environmental events (such as
changes in the temperature and rainfalls) to be taken into account. A simulator
for the constructed model is developed via translation into the specification
language Maude, and used to compare the dynamics obtained from the model with
