    A true Intelligent Tutoring System is difficult to produce in today\u27s technological environment. This thesis reviews various theoretical methods and strategies that could be employed in performing the analysis and design of an Intelligent Tutoring System. An overview of the basic concepts of Object-Oriented Analysis and Design are provided in this thesis. The notation system provided by these concepts are utilized. The Object-Oriented Analysis and Design methods that are employed create a basis for an implementation of an Intelligent Tutoring System

    In this paper an evaluation model for object-oriented (OO) metrics is proposed. We have evaluated the existing evaluation criteria for OO metrics, and based on the observations, a model is proposed which tries to cover most of the features for the evaluation of OO metrics. The model is validated by applying it to existing OO metrics. In contrast to the other existing criteria, the proposed model is simple in implementation and includes the practical and important aspects of evaluation; hence it suitable to evaluate and validate any OO complexity metric

    The specificity and advantages of introduction of the dual education in the training of economists and managers of the sphere of telecommunications on the basis of competence approach are considered. The research is aimed at considering the theoretical-methodological bases and practical aspects of the introduction of dual education on the basis of competence approach in the training of specialists in economics and management of telecommunications. The object of research is the process of improvement of professional training of economists and managers of telecommunication sphere in higher educational institution. The analysis of empirical data, obtained as a result of the sociological research conducted by the author, identified the need of the labor market in the specialists who receive practical-oriented education on the basis of competence approach. The conclusion is made about necessity and possibility of introduction of the dual form for development of the higher education system of Ukraine. Methods of the research are theoretical analysis of the psychologic-pedagogical literature, surveying; system, complex and historical methods; methods of comparison.     Conceptual Spaces in Object-Oriented Framework

    The aim of this paper is to show that the middle level of mental representations in a conceptual spaces framework is consistent with the OOP paradigm. We argue that conceptual spaces framework together with vague prototype theory of categorization appears to be the most suitable solution for modeling the cognitive apparatus of humans, and that the OOP paradigm can be easily and intuitively reconciled with this framework. First, we show that the prototypebased OOP approach is consistent with Gärdenfors’ model in terms of structural coherence. Second, we argue that the product of cloning process in a prototype-based model is in line with the structure of categories in Gärdenfors’ proposal. Finally, in order to make the fuzzy object-oriented model consistent with conceptual space, we demonstrate how to define membership function in a more cognitive manner, i.e. in terms of similarity to prototype

    Exploring the eradication of code smells: An empirical and theoretical perspective

    This article has been made available through the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund - Copyright @ 2010 Hindawi Publishing CorporationCode smells reflect code decay, and, as such, developers should seek to eradicate such smells through application of “deodorant” in the form of one or more refactorings. However, a relative lack of studies exploring code smells either theoretically or empirically when compared with literature on refactoring suggests that there are reasons why smell eradication is neither being applied in anger, nor the subject of significant research. In this paper, we present three studies as supporting evidence for this stance. The first is an analysis of a set of five, open-source Java systems in which we show very little tendency for smells to be eradicated by developers; the second is an empirical study of a subsystem of a proprietary, C# web-based application where practical problems arise in smell identification and the third, a theoretical enumeration of smell-related refactorings to suggest why smells may be left alone from an effort perspective. Key findings of the study were that first, smells requiring application of simple refactorings were eradicated in favour of smells requiring more complex refactorings; second, a wide range of conflicts and anomalies soon emerged when trying to identify smelly code; an interesting result with respect to comment lines was also observed. Finally, perceived (estimated) effort to eradicate a smell may be a key factor in explaining why smell eradication is avoided by developers.     Weighted Class Complexity: A Measure of Complexity for Object Oriented System

    Software complexity metrics are used to predict critical information about reliability and maintainability of software systems. Object oriented software development requires a different approach to software complexity metrics. In this paper, we propose a metric to compute the structural and cognitive complexity of class by associating a weight to the class, called as Weighted Class Complexity (WCC). On the contrary, of the other metrics used for object oriented systems, proposed metric calculates the complexity of a class due to methods and attributes in terms of cognitive weight. The proposed metric has been demonstrated with OO examples. The theoretical and practical evaluations based on the information theory have shown that the proposed metric is on ratio scale and satisfies most of the parameters required by the measurement theor

    An object-oriented model of measurement systems

    This paper presents a general object-oriented model for measurement systems. The limitations of the conventional function-oriented models are examined in the light of the generalized concept of measurement and its theoretical framework proposed previously by the authors. The proposed model identifies five classes of objects, i.e., measured object, measuring instrument, reference standard, human observer, and operating environment. Each is characterized by its own attributes and operations or functions at three levels, i.e., internal, operational, and environmental. The interactions between them are also modeled, including the coupling between the measured object and the measuring instrument, the human-instrument interface, the calibration, and the interference. It serves as both a modeling framework and a practical tool for description, analysis and design, and, in particular, for computer-aided analysis and design of a measuring system. It will find applications in instrumentation engineering and measurement research and education
