    Get PDF
With the burgeoning use of qualitative methods in health research, criteria for judging their value become increasingly necessary. Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) is a distinctive approach to conducting qualitative research being used with increasing frequency in published studies. A systematic literature review was undertaken to identify published papers in the area of health psychology employing IPA. A total of 52 articles are reviewed here in terms of the following: methods of data collection, sampling, assessing wider applicability of research and adherence to the theoretical foundations and procedures of IPA. IPA seems applicable and useful in a wide variety of research topics. The lack of attention sometimes afforded to the interpretative facet of the approach is discussed

This work was funded by the National Nature Science Foundation of China (71774069). Abstract The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive, systematic review on the progress of research on technological innovation management literature in healthcare delivery and its impact, whereby we seek to highlight the knowledge gaps, and provide researchers and scholars’ approaches for future research. We statistically reviewed and analyzed 289 articles relevant to our research objectives using publications in journals, articles, conferences and those available in press from 1990 to 2018. Based on which we critically synthesized 36 articles for content analysis (conceptual, and empirical studies) and created a framework for technological innovation management research. Content analysis showed some appreciable contributions of conceptual, empirical, evidential and review articles in the field. We observed that though there has been some research into the area of innovation, open innovation and the application of technological innovation in the area of health care delivery, little study has been done in assessing the impact management of such technological innovation on the delivery of public health care services to citizens; thus the use of our proposed framework will provide guidance for researchers and scholars seeking to advance discussions and studies in this area. Keywords: Technological innovation management, technological innovation, process innovation, open innovation, public health, research and development (R & D)

Intervention Research to Increase Pediatric Hearing Device Use: A Scoping Review

    Get PDF
Purpose: This study is a scoping review examining interventions to increase hearing device use for children. Method: Online databases were used to identify peer-reviewed journal articles published prior to November 1, 2021, yielding 1,288 after duplications were removed. Four articles met the inclusion criteria after articles were screened by title name and abstract and subsequent full-text screening of six articles. A qualitative analysis was conducted to identify features of the intervention studies related to the participants, design, intervention, key findings, and limitations. Results: The included studies were published between 1982 and 2021, and in all four studies, the children used hearing aids. All four of the studies used a longitudinal design to address hearing aid use problems, with the timeframe ranging from approximately one month to six months and had variable success in increasing use time. None of the studies included a protocol, such as counseling skills, for addressing internal challenges that interfere with hearing aid use. Conclusions: Review of the limited research in this area found variable effectiveness for the interventions studied. There is an urgent need for research in this area to inform clinical practice and provide evidence-based interventions to address malleable factors that interfere with audibility for children who use hearing devices

A letter on Ancaiani et al. ‘Evaluating scientific research in Italy: the 2004-10 research evaluation exercise’

This letter documents some problems in Ancaiani et al. (2015). Namely the evaluation of concordance, based on Cohen's kappa, reported by Ancaiani et al. was not computed on the whole random sample of 9,199 articles, but on a subset of 7,597 articles. The kappas relative to the whole random sample were in the range 0.07–0.15, indicating an unacceptable agreement between peer review and bibliometrics. The subset was obtained by non-random exclusion of all articles for which bibliometrics produced an uncertain classification; these raw data were not disclosed, so that concordance analysis is not reproducible. The VQR-weighted kappa for Area 13 reported by Ancaiani et al. is higher than that reported by Area 13 panel and confirmed by Bertocchi et al. (2015), a difference explained by the use, under the same name, of two different set of weights. Two values of kappa reported by Ancaiani et al. differ from the corresponding ones published in the official report. Results reported by Ancaiani et al. do not support a good concordance between peer review and bibliometrics. As a consequence, the use of both techniques introduced systematic distortions in the final results of the Italian research assessment exercise. The conclusion that it is possible to use both technique as interchangeable in a research assessment exercise appears to be unsound, by being based on a misinterpretation of the statistical significance of kappa values

Specifically, this scoping review focuses on the analysis of the actual definitions used and the ways in which school connectedness and teacher connectedness are operationalized in existing measures. Using the terms connectedness, teacher and school as keywords, we searched SCOPUS, Web of Science, ERIC, the Cochrane Library and the EPPI Centre Database of Education Research for relevant peer-review articles published in English from 1990 to 2016. 350 papers were selected for the review. Many studies failed to provide a definition of school or teacher connectedness and there were some differences in the way these constructs were operationalized in the main measures. Future research should be thorough in the definition of these constructs, and ensure consistency between the definition used and the operationalization of the connectedness construct in the selected measure. Unpacking the global concept of school connectedness and examining the role of its different components (global feelings towards school, teacher connectedness, relationships with classmates, etc.) separately may also contribute to building a more coherent body of evidence in this area. Reflecting on the place of school and teacher connectedness in the broader context of the literature on school climate and bridging distances between the research on school connectedness and that on related constructs is another necessary step to move this field forward.Peer reviewedFinal Published versio

EKSISTENSI PANCASILA SEBAGAI TOLOK UKUR DALAM PENGUJIAN UNDANG-UNDANG TERHADAP UNDANG-UNDANG NEGARA REPUBLIK INDONESIA 1945 DI MAHKAMAH KONSTITUSI: KAJIAN PERSPEKTIF FILSAFAT HUKUM DAN KETATANEGARAAN

Not only played an important role as the guardian of constitution, the Constitutional Court is also functioned as the guardian of ideology, Pancasila. It means that Pancasila should be used as the basis to examine, nullify and to decide the Constitutionality of laws in Indonesia. This research critically analyses: (i) Why do Pancasila, the Indonesian rechtsidee, should be used as a measuring instrument or as a reviewing tools on the process of constitutional review in the Constitutional Court; (ii) Precedents or decided cases that used Pancasila as the basis to determine the constitutionality of a particular law (especially a judicial review of Acts in the area of politics, economic, social and religion during 2003-2013); (iii) The best formula to ensure the Constitutional Court to always use Pancasila as the main basis for judicial review of laws. This research is based on positivism paradigm. A doctrinaire approach is utilized to address the research questions and to reach the objectives of this research. Additionally, a deductive analysis is used in this research. This work has found that: First, there are convincing facts that Pancasila as the national principle was born on 1 June 1945 when Soekarno gave speech in front of BPUPK general assembly. Pancasila was not born on 18 August 1945 at the same time with the ratification of the Constitution (UUD 1945) since the legal position of Pancasila and the Constitution is not equal. Pancasila should be used as a measuring instrument for the Constitutional Court to review the constitutionality of every law considering the legal position of Pancasila as the rechtsidee of Indonesia that has regulatory function to determine the fairness of a particular law. Second, during 2003-2013 there are three types of Court decisions from Pancasila perspective: decisions without consider Pancasila as a measuring instrument, decision that not only mentioned articles in the Constitution but also stated about the value of Pancasila but the value of Pancasila are not clearly mentioned as a measuring instrument; and decision that clearly used Pancasila as a measuring instrument. Third, the best formula to ensure the Constitutional Court to always use Pancasila as the main basis for judicial review are by judicial interpretation and by amending Law regarding Constitutional Cour

The purpose of this scoping review was to provide information about the current research related to audiological practices regarding the population of musicians who use cochlear implants technology. This scoping review included studies that investigated post implantation therapy/activities designed to assist users who were also musicians. A scoping review identifies trends and gaps in available evidence. This information can be used to inform on practices currently being used in the audiologic field and identify areas for further research. A scoping review was conducted in April 2021 to identify English-language peer-reviewed journal articles published from 2010 to March 2021. Thematic analysis was used to identify trends among the literature. Six articles were identified that met the inclusion criteria. Four themes related to type of intervention were identified to explore improvements in music skill outcomes in cochlear implant users who were musicians, including: processor, music perception, post implant therapy, and questionnaire. Gaps in the literature were identified regarding the population of cochlear implant users who are musicians. More research in this area is imperative to assist in identifying effective interventions as well as to assist in device choice for the musicians that use or are looking at using cochlear implant technology as well as continuing their lives in the music world post implantation

A computational literature review of the technology acceptance model

A literature review is a central part of any research project, allowing the existing research to be mapped and new research questions to be posited. However, due to the limitations of human data processing, the literature review can suffer from an inability to handle large volumes of research articles. The computational literature review (CLR) is proposed here as a complementary part of a wider literature review process. The CLR automates some of the analysis of research articles with analyses of impact (citations), structure (co-authorship networks) and content (topic modeling of abstracts). A contribution of the paper is to demonstrate how the content of abstracts can be analyzed automatically to provide a set of research topics within a literature corpus. The CLR software can be used to support three use cases: (1) analysis of the literature for a research area, (2) analysis and ranking of journals, and (3) analysis and ranking of individual scholars and research teams. The working of the CLR software is illustrated through application to the technology acceptance model (TAM) using a set of 3,386 articles. The CLR is an open source offering, developed in the statistical programming language R, and made freely available to researchers to use and develop further

This study aims to systematically review the key characteristics and issues of corporate governance and ownership (CGO) research and to offer directional suggestions concerning the future of CGO research. The Systematic Assessment Quantitative Technique (SQAT) was used to identify and analyze 65 peer-reviewed CGO articles from six high-quality academic databases. The study covered 2009 to 2019 and there is evidence of a growing number of CGO articles over the number of years covered. Most of the studies have taken place in Asia and Europe, while South America has the lowest number of studies.  98% of CGO research has been empirical in nature, which calls for more conceptual studies to give more understanding of the research area because knowledge is dynamic. The primary focus of the articles has been on firm performance and closely followed by regulatory policies. All the CGO articles adopted the quantitative research method, using mainly critical analysis. However, combining both quantitative and qualitative methods will make future studies more robust and give additional insight into various issues of CGO. Finally, the use of only six databases which although contains high quality, peer-reviewed articles, but not all peer-reviewed CGO articles were in the databases. Future systematic reviews can widen the scope of databases to gain further insight
