Business Process Management Education in Academia: Status, challenges, and Recommendations

In response to the growing proliferation of Business Process Management (BPM) in industry and the demand this creates for BPM expertise, universities across the globe are at various stages of incorporating knowledge and skills in their teaching offerings. However, there are still only a handful of institutions that offer specialized education in BPM in a systematic and in-depth manner. This article is based on a global educators’ panel discussion held at the 2009 European Conference on Information Systems in Verona, Italy. The article presents the BPM programs of five universities from Australia, Europe, Africa, and North America, describing the BPM content covered, program and course structures, and challenges and lessons learned. The article also provides a comparative content analysis of BPM education programs illustrating a heterogeneous view of BPM. The examples presented demonstrate how different courses and programs can be developed to meet the educational goals of a university department, program, or school. This article contributes insights on how best to continuously sustain and reshape BPM education to ensure it remains dynamic, responsive, and sustainable in light of the evolving and ever-changing marketplace demands for BPM expertise

Cloud computing governance reference model for cloud service consumers

Cloud computing is changing the way organizations utilize IT resources with a corresponding impact on the role of IT governance. This paper describes proposal of adapting SOA Governance Framework and COBIT 5 framework to govern cloud computing services from cloud consumer perspective. Proposed Cloud computing governance reference model takes into account the structure of SOA Governance Framework. Cloud computing governance reference model serves as a basis for the definition and establishment of Cloud computing governance and defines a set of new or redefined guiding principles, governing processes and governed processes based SOA Governance processes and COBIT 5 governance processes which are fully adapted to cloud computing environment from a cloud service consumer perspective. Reference model of business informatics economics management

This paper is devoted to issues connected with processes that can be used for the management of economic efficiency of business informatics with the support in the area of Business Intelligence. We analyze the processes of the management of business informatics economics. We propose new model that takes into account requirements on the management of economic efficiency necessitated by accounting, managers of companies, differences in the method of accounting of business informatics cost and profits etc. Our model provides information that helps to define prices and costs for services provided by business informatics to other in-house units, provides information for cost analysis of each employee, total cost of each IS/ICT section, identifying the total costs of business informatics etc. First published online: 02 Oct 201

Matchmaking Framework for B2B E-Marketplaces

In the recent years trading on the Internet become more popular. Online businesses gradually replace more and more from the conventional business. Much commercial information is exchanged on the internet, especially using the e-marketplaces. The demand and supply matching process becomes complex and difficult on last twenty years since the e-marketplaces play an important role in business management. ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks: a literature review

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation is a complex and vibrant process, one that involves a combination of technological and organizational interactions. Often an ERP implementation project is the single largest IT project that an organization has ever launched and requires a mutual fit of system and organization. Also the concept of an ERP implementation supporting business processes across many different departments is not a generic, rigid and uniform concept and depends on variety of factors. As a result, the issues addressing the ERP implementation process have been one of the major concerns in industry. Therefore ERP implementation receives attention from practitioners and scholars and both, business as well as academic literature is abundant and not always very conclusive or coherent. However, research on ERP systems so far has been mainly focused on diffusion, use and impact issues. Less attention has been given to the methods used during the configuration and the implementation of ERP systems, even though they are commonly used in practice, they still remain largely unexplored and undocumented in Information Systems research. So, the academic relevance of this research is the contribution to the existing body of scientific knowledge. An annotated brief literature review is done in order to evaluate the current state of the existing academic literature. The purpose is to present a systematic overview of relevant ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks as a desire for achieving a better taxonomy of ERP implementation methodologies. This paper is useful to researchers who are interested in ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks. Results will serve as an input for a classification of the existing ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks. Also, this paper aims also at the professional ERP community involved in the process of ERP implementation by promoting a better understanding of ERP implementation methodologies and frameworks, its variety and history

Projects selection and prioritization: a Portuguese Navy pilot model

In the face of rapid technological changes, short product cycles and strong global competition, it is vital that organizations know how to optimize their scarce resources and thus profit from investments with the goal of obtaining the expected benefits and successes. One of the great difficulties facing organizations is the large number of projects that they usually have in their portfolio. Therefore, it is necessary to select and prioritize which projects become essential, to guarantee the maximum return on investments and the sustainability of the organization. Although there are several approaches to analyzing and selecting projects, there is no unanimity about which methodologies to apply. When analyzed in more detail, all approaches presented advantages and disadvantages which need to be considered. Project selection also depends on the nature and profile of the managers and on the techniques, that best fit the organization’s environment. This study analyzes and establishes the link between the academic literature and a pilot model of selection and prioritization of projects developed by the Portuguese Navy. The project was carried out to improve the support and allocation of the necessary resources and forces for the accomplishment of the Navy’s missions in the context of Portugal’s National Defense. The results obtained ensure the necessary alignment with the academic literature and reinforces the credibility of the proposal model for the selection and prioritization process. .info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
