Influence of intensive melt shearing on the microstructure and mechanical properties of an Al-Mg alloy with high added impurity content

The official published version can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society and ASM International 2011We have investigated the influence of melt conditioning by intensive shearing on the mechanical behavior and microstructure of Al-Mg-Mn-Fe-Cu-Si alloy sheet produced from a small book mold ingot with high added impurity content. The melt conditioned ingot has fine grains throughout its cross section, whereas a conventionally cast ingot, without melt shearing, has coarser grains and shows a wider variation of grain size. Both needle-shaped and coarse Chinese script iron bearing intermetallic particles are found in the microstructure at the center of the conventionally processed ingot, but for the melt conditioned ingot, only fine Chinese script intermetallic particles are observed. In addition to the iron bearing intermetallics, Mg2Si particles are also observed. The ingots were rolled to thin sheet and solution heat treated (SHT). During rolling, the iron-based intermetallics and Mg2Si particles are broken and aligned along the rolling direction. Yield strength (YS), ultimate tensile strength (UTS), and elongation of the intensively melt sheared and processed sheet are all improved compared to the conventionally cast and processed sheet. Fractographic analysis of the tensile fracture surfaces shows that the clustered and coarse iron bearing intermetallic particles are responsible for the observed reduction in mechanical properties of the conventionally cast sheet. We have shown that by refining the initial microstructure of the ingot by intensive shear melt conditioning, it is possible to achieve improved mechanical properties at the final sheet gage of an AlMgMn alloy with a high content of impurities. This study is under the Technology Strategy Board funded REALCAR projec

Non-display uses of copyright works: Google Books and beyond

    Get PDF
Copyright @ 2011 The AuthorsWith the advent of mass digitisation projects, such as the Google Book Search, a peculiar shift has occurred in the way that copyright works are dealt with. Contrary to what has so far been the case, works are turned into machine-readable data to be automatically processed for various purposes without the expression of works being displayed to the public. In the Google Book Settlement Agreement, this new kind of uses is referred to as “non-display uses” of digital works. The legitimacy of these uses has not yet been tested by Courts and does not comfortably fit in the current copyright doctrine, plainly because the works are not used as works but as something else, namely as data. Since non-display uses may prove to be a very lucrative market in the near future, with the potential to affect the way people use copyright works, we examine non-display uses under the prism of copyright principles to determine the boundaries of their legitimacy. Through this examination, we provide a categorisation of the activities carried out under the heading of “non-display uses”, we examine their lawfulness under the current copyright doctrine and approach the phenomenon from the spectrum of data protection law as could apply, by analogy, to the use of copyright works as processable data

Identification of Book Needs Level Using the K-Means Method at STMIK Pelita Nusantara Medan Library

    Get PDF
Library Sekolah Tinggi Manajemen Ilmu Komputer Pelita Nusantara Medan is one of the facilities that provide book loan services to students. To improve services to the needs of books for Pelita Nusantara STMIK students. This test aims to determine the amount of books needed to borrow, and determine how many students borrow books based on books that are often borrowed simultaneously. The method used is the K-Means method, the K-Means algorithm is a non-hierarchical data clustering method with an effort to partition the available data into one or even more clusters. The data to be used is the amount of book data that is often borrowed, and the number of students who borrow books in 2015-2019. From the results obtained in the overall data process above that cluster 0 is a low-potential book borrower totaling 52 titles, Cluster 1 is a potential borrower of 30 books, and Cluster 2 is a high-potential book borrower totaling 1 book title, therefore knowledge is obtained that borrowing books at STMIK Pelita Nusantara books that are often borrowed will be reviewed for books. K-Means algorithm method has been able to be applied to identify the level of book requirements. Data is processed to obtain the number of books that are often borrowed will be multiplied. The data is processed using Rapid Miner software

Acquiring E-books – Does (Should) Workflow Play a Role?

    Get PDF
The methods in which e-books can be purchased vary greatly compared to print books. In the past, a print book was purchased either as an individual title (firm order) or through an approval plan. Once the books were received, there was little deviation in how the items were processed – purchase orders were created, books were processed, invoices were input and paid. However, with e-books, the work is more complex and there are a many ways to purchase e-books – firm order, Demand (or Patron) Driven Acquisiton (DDA), Evidence Based Acquisition (EBA), yearly front-file purchases, back-file purchases, or subscription to e-book packages. Each of the methods involves a workflow that goes from easy to somewhat complex. This begs the question of whether the acquisitions workflow can or should influence how e-books are purchased

This study aims to determine Profit Growth is influenced by Book Tax Diference and Dividend Policy on the type of research used in this study is quantitative research. Based on the purposive sampling method, a total sample of 51 was obtained. The population in this study was LQ index 45. This study used the type of secondary data obtained directly from the object under study, then processed using the Eviews version 9. The results of this study were Book Tax Variables. Diference has a significant effect on Profit Growth. Dividend Policy Variables do not have a significant effect on Profit Growth. Book Tax Diference and Dividend Policy variables have a simultaneous influence on Profit Growth. Keywords: Book Tax Difference, Dividend Policy, Profit Growth

The Healthiest Diet for You: Scientific Aspects

    Get PDF
The Healthiest Diet for You: Scientific Aspects is unique in a sense because it focuses on the most recent advances in Nutrition, Metabolism, and Genetics that are the basic components of Personalized Nutrition. The book also emphasizes the importance of evolutionary aspects of diet and exercise and the need to select foods that are consistent with the evolutionary aspects of diet because these are the foods that contain the nutrients that our genes are programmed to respond. This book is the antidote to ultra-processed foods and imitation foods that are proinflammatory and contribute to increases in chronic diseases, especially cardiovascular disease. It is a book for Health! The aim of the book is to provide readers with the basic factual information necessary to comprehend the enormity and potential effects of nutrients and foods on overall health and well-being. This book should be of interest to the educated public, teachers, health professionals, physicians, medical students, nutritionists, dietitians, historians and policy makers

Book Catalog Application In Man 2 Bengkulu City Using The Levenstein Distance Algorithm

    Get PDF
MAN 2 Bengkulu City is one of the public madrasah aliyah schools in Bengkulu City. The school already has a library which is used as a medium for library members or users to search for books, read books, and borrow books. So far, the library at MAN 2 Bengkulu City is still conventional and has not used related applications in terms of searching book catalogs. Members/librarians come to the library and look directly at each shelf to pick up the desired book. In addition, the data processing of the book catalog has not utilized the office application package, all book data is processed using double polio paper that has been prepared. The book catalog application at MAN 2 Bengkulu City is an application that can be used to facilitate the library in managing book data, members, borrowing, and returning books and can print the output needed in archiving library data. The book catalog application at MAN 2 Bengkulu City has applied the Levenstein Distance Algorithm which is used to facilitate the search for books when the book borrowing process is carried out. The book catalog application at MAN 2 Bengkulu City was made using the Visual Basic programming language
