Multi Detector Fusion of Dynamic TOA Estimation using Kalman Filter
In this paper, we propose fusion of dynamic TOA (time of arrival) from
multiple non-coherent detectors like energy detectors operating at sub-Nyquist
rate through Kalman filtering. We also show that by using multiple of these
energy detectors, we can achieve the performance of a digital matched filter
implementation in the AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise) setting. We derive
analytical expression for number of energy detectors needed to achieve the
matched filter performance. We demonstrate in simulation the validity of our
analytical approach. Results indicate that number of energy detectors needed
will be high at low SNRs and converge to a constant number as the SNR
increases. We also study the performance of the strategy proposed using IEEE
802.15.4a CM1 channel model and show in simulation that two sub-Nyquist
detectors are sufficient to match the performance of digital matched filter
IR-UWB Detection and Fusion Strategies using Multiple Detector Types
Optimal detection of ultra wideband (UWB) pulses in a UWB transceiver
employing multiple detector types is proposed and analyzed in this paper. We
propose several fusion techniques for fusing decisions made by individual
IR-UWB detectors. We assess the performance of these fusion techniques for
commonly used detector types like matched filter, energy detector and amplitude
detector. In order to perform this, we derive the detection performance
equation for each of the detectors in terms of false alarm rate, shape of the
pulse and number of UWB pulses used in the detection and apply these in the
fusion algorithms. We show that the performance can be improved approximately
by 4 dB in terms of signal to noise ratio (SNR) for perfect detectability of a
UWB signal in a practical scenario by fusing the decisions from individual
detectors.Comment: Accepted for publishing in IEEE WCNC 201
Performance evaluation of interference cancellation techniques using adaptive antennas
Two array-based algorithms, which jointly exploit or compensate for the spatial and temporal characteristics of the propagation channel, are proposed for intercell interference suppression in UMTS scenarios. The first one is the array extension of the Viterbi algorithm and is referred to as Vector Viterbi algorithm (VVA). The second algorithm, known as filtered training sequence multisensor receiver (FTS-MR), belongs to a class of algorithms in which a narrowband beamformer is placed prior to the MLSE detector. In order to assess performance of the proposed schemes, a set of link-level computer simulations adopting FRAMES' proposal for UMTS air-interface as well as realistic channel models for third generation communication systems is provided, Simulation results reveal gains, in terms of C/I, of 7-10 dB for the VVA with respect to the conventional VA and even higher for the FTS-MR.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
A Fast Blind Impulse Detector for Bernoulli-Gaussian Noise in Underspread Channel
The Bernoulli-Gaussian (BG) model is practical to characterize impulsive
noises that widely exist in various communication systems. To estimate the BG
model parameters from noise measurements, a precise impulse detection is
essential. In this paper, we propose a novel blind impulse detector, which is
proven to be fast and accurate for BG noise in underspread communication
channels.Comment: v2 to appear in IEEE ICC 2018, Kansas City, MO, USA, May 2018 Minor

Improved Energy Detector for Wideband Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio Networks
In this paper, an improved energy detector for a wideband spectrum sensing is proposed. For a better detection of the spectrum holes the overall band is divided into equal non-overlapping sub-bands. The main objective is to determine the detection thresholds for each of these subbands jointly. By defining the problem as an optimization problem, we aim to find the maximum aggregated opportunistic throughput of cognitive radio networks. Introducing practical constraints to this optimization problem will change the problem into a convex and solvable one. The results of this paper show that the proposed improved energy detector will increase the aggregated throughput considerably
Performance of Hybrid Direct-Sequence Time-Hopping Ultrawide Bandwidth Systems over Nakagami-m Fading Channels
This paper investigates and compares the performance of various ultrawide bandwidth (UWB) systems when communicating over Nakagami-m fading channels. Specifically, the direct-sequence (DS), time-hopping (TH) and hybrid direct-sequence time-hopping (DS-TH) UWB systems are considered. The performance of these UWB systems is studied associated with employing the conventional single-user correlation detector or minimum mean-square error (MMSE) multiuser detector. Our simulation results show that the hybrid DS-TH UWB system may outperform a corresponding pure TH-UWB or pure DS-UWB system in terms of the achievable error performance. Given the total spreading gain of the hybrid DS-TH UWB system, there is an optimal setting of the TH spreading factor and DS spreading factor, which results in the best error performance
