The navigation toolkit
This report summarizes the experience of the authors in managing, designing, and implementing an object-oriented applications framework for orbital navigation analysis for the Flight Design and Dynamics Department of the Rockwell Space Operations Company in Houston, in support of the Mission Operations Directorate of NASA's Johnson Space Center. The 8 person year project spanned 1.5 years and produced 30,000 lines of C++ code, replacing 150,000 lines of Fortran/C. We believe that our experience is important because it represents a 'second project' experience and generated real production-quality code - it was not a pilot. The project successfully demonstrated the use of 'continuous development' or rapid prototyping techniques. Use of formal methods and executable models contributed to the quality of the code. Keys to the success of the project were a strong architectural vision and highly skilled workers. This report focuses on process and methodology, and not on a detailed design description of the product. But the true importance of the object-oriented paradigm is its liberation of the developer to focus on the problem rather than the means used to solve the problem
TURTLE: Four Weddings and a Tutorial
The paper discusses an educational case study of protocol modelling in TURTLE, a real-time UML profile supported by the open source toolkit TTool. The method associated with TURTLE is step by step illustrated with the connection set up and handover procedures defined for the Future Air navigation Systems. The paper covers the following methodological stages: requirement modeling, use-case driven and scenario based analysis, object-oriented design and rapid prototyping in Java. Emphasis is laid on the formal verification of analysis and design diagrams
Adaptive web-based educational application for autistic students
Adaptive web-based applications have proven successful in reducing navigation and comprehension problems in hypermedia documents. In this paper, we describe a toolkit that is offered as an adaptive Web-based application to help autistic students incorporate to high education. The toolkit has been developed using a popular CMS in which we have integrated a client-side adaptation library. The toolkit described here was tried out during workshops with autistic students at Leeds Becketts University to gather (mostly qualitative) feedback on the adaptation and privacy aspects of the Autism&Uni platform. That feedback was later used to improve the toolkit

Mission Operations and Navigation Toolkit Environment
MONTE (Mission Operations and Navigation Toolkit Environment) Release 7.3 is an extensible software system designed to support trajectory and navigation analysis/design for space missions. MONTE is intended to replace the current navigation and trajectory analysis software systems, which, at the time of this reporting, are used by JPL's Navigation and Mission Design section. The software provides an integrated, simplified, and flexible system that can be easily maintained to serve the needs of future missions in need of navigation services
GPU in Physics Computation: Case Geant4 Navigation
General purpose computing on graphic processing units (GPU) is a potential
method of speeding up scientific computation with low cost and high energy
efficiency. We experimented with the particle physics simulation toolkit Geant4
used at CERN to benchmark its geometry navigation functionality on a GPU. The
goal was to find out whether Geant4 physics simulations could benefit from GPU
acceleration and how difficult it is to modify Geant4 code to run in a GPU.
We ported selected parts of Geant4 code to C99 & CUDA and implemented a
simple gamma physics simulation utilizing this code to measure efficiency. The
performance of the program was tested by running it on two different platforms:
NVIDIA GeForce 470 GTX GPU and a 12-core AMD CPU system. Our conclusion was
that GPUs can be a competitive alternate for multi-core computers but porting
existing software in an efficient way is challenging
