Leadership reflects how the leaders of organizations would deploy the resources and manpower of the organizations, and what resolutions the leaders would take in urgent situations. However, organizations encountered a huge hurdle under COVID-19 since it has cast impediments to the operations of the companies. This paper aims to explore the role of digital leadership in digital transformation during the pandemic. In addition, this paper also explores the way that leaders could push forward the digital transformation to enable the company to adapt new market environment that their companies are in. Therefore, this paper capitalized on the research opinion of Saunders with interpretivism as the research philosophy, and the quantitative method was adopted to enable the execution of an interview. Furthermore, leaders' rethinking was also enhanced so that leaders could figure out what approaches should be taken in an emergency. All of these findings show that digital transformation has a proactive impact on digital leadership

Collaborate to Innovate: Utilizing Design Patterns Cards for Accelerating the Digital Transformation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises

As more and more organizations reach the limits of their internal capabilities to deal with the challenges induced by digital transformation, they are increasingly forced to seek external digitalization opportunities. In particular, small and medium enterprises are affected by this due to their limited human and financial resources. Currently, there is a lack of overview of options considering limited internal digital capabilities and resources. Thus, we choose an action design research approach to develop an external digitalization activity navigator. As a result, we derive five design principles for successful navigation and 30 activities, which are presented as design pattern cards. Our work can help practitioners and scholars alike to structure external digitalization activities

This research is financed by National Funds of the FCT—Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology within the project and, under the Scientific Employment Stimulus-Institutional Call CEECINST/00051/2018.The dynamic patterns of technology adoption among firms clustered by size are investigated to assess the implications arising from the digital divide. Using data from the “Survey on the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Enterprises (IUTICE)" dataset for 2003-2022, provided by the Portuguese Institute of Statistics, the research centers on three key variables – internet connectivity, website presence, and computer usage – which are examined across a spectrum of firms’ scales, shedding light on the evolving trends in technology adoption. Employing a combination of descriptive statistical analysis, trend assessment, and cross-sectional comparisons, this research shows noteworthy insights. Interestingly, the adoption rates for all three technology variables exhibit a consistent upward trajectory, indicative of a movement towards digitalization within the business landscape. Smaller firms have demonstrated notable strides, manifesting a reduction in the technology adoption disparity relative to their larger counterparts. The findings underscore the influential roles played by resource constraints and digital competencies in shaping technology adoption trajectories, and their correspondence with the Resource-Based View (RBV) framework underscores the role of organizational resources and capabilities on the digital divide. The ramifications extend beyond individual firms, resonating with the global scholarly discourse and advocating for equitable integration of technology. As firms, irrespective of size, grapple with the challenges posed by the digital era, this study provides deep insights that can guide the formulation of strategies aimed at cultivating an inclusive and technologically empowered business environment.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalization in ASEAN MSMEs has garnered significant attention in optimizing their contributions to the global value chain. This study aims to develop a conceptual model that analyzes digitalization strategies in ASEAN MSMEs, harnessing AI to attain competitive advantage within the global value chain. This model integrates concepts from business strategy theory, information technology, and global economics. The primary contribution of this research lies in conceptualizing a comprehensive view of how ASEAN MSMEs can embrace AI as a primary driver in formulating effective digital strategies, thus enabling them to compete in an increasingly interconnected and competitive global marketplace. Digitalization in a resource-extracting region: from cluster to business ecosystem

    Get PDF
The purpose of the study is to trace the evolution of the mineral resource cluster in a resource-extracting region from a territorial association of entities in the industrial economy to a business ecosystem in the digital economy within the framework of the sustainable development concept. The urgency of the research is due to the increase in the information and knowledge intensity of a product in the digital economy, which makes the cluster policy based on the digital principle more efficient than that based on the territorial principle. The digitalization of the mineral resource sector of a resource-extracting region, started with a cluster - a progressive organizational and managerial form - is seen by the authors as a strategic means of increasing the sustainability and efficiency of the socio-economic development of a region. The delegation of responsibility for the modernization of the economy to the regional level gives particular importance to regional research. The dependence on the state of the world market of fuel and energy resources, the exhaustion of the mainly raw material export model of economic growth put Kuzbass, the mining region of Western Siberia, in the most difficult situation. The issue of accelerating the transition to an innovation resource type of development through structural and technological transformation in the context of the general course towards digitalization is urgent for it. A theoretical substantiation of the necessity, possibility and feasibility of digitalization of the mineral resource cluster as a factor in the sustainable development of a resource-extracting region is presented in the article

Designing a Comprehensive Understanding of Digital Transformation and its Impact

Many researchers, managers, and companies are currently dealing with digital transformation. Yet, there exists a research gap on the exact meaning and scope of this transformation. In this paper, an in-depth literature study was performed and synthesized to inductively construct a conceptual framework that reconciles the distinct definitions and aspects of digital transformation. From the framework, we derived a novel and comprehensive definition of digital transformation which was validated against the literature and shown to be exhaustive. Furthermore, our definition explicitly explains why digital transformation is happening and accelerating. Researchers and practitioners can use the framework to position their work and to gain a better understanding of its wide scope and impacts. This work can be among the first steps towards a unified understanding of digital transformation
