    Fail-Safe Testing of Safety-Critical Systems

    This dissertation proposes an approach for testing of safety-critical systems. It is based on a behavioral and a fault model. The two models are analyzed for compatibility and necessary changes are identified to make them compatible. Then transformation rules are used to transform the fault model into the same model type as the behavioral model. Integration rules define how to combine them. This approach results in an integrated model which then can be used to generate tests using a variety of testing criteria. The dissertation illustrates this general framework using a CEFSM for the behavioral model and a Fault Tree for the fault model. We apply the technique to a variety of applications such as a Gas burner, an Aerospace Launch System, and a Railroad Crossing Control System. We also investigate the scalability of the approach and compare its efficiency with integrating a state chart and a fault tree. Construction and Analysis of Distributed Processes (CADP) has been used as a supporting tool for this approach to generate test cases from the integrated model and to analyze the integrated model for some properties such as deadlock and livelock

    Free Access to Public Information - More Transparency, Less Corruption: The Case of Republic of Macedonia

    The traditional model of not transparent administration today disappears step by step. Citizens are increasingly becoming an equal entity with state institutions which have responsibility to ensure protection of their rights, accountability, openness and transparency in its operations - as the basic principles upon which rests the principle of good governance. Therefore, adoption of a law of free access to public information in many countries in the world which seek to enhance democracy in their societies today is a trend (process) that can not stop. Nowadays, countries that don’t have such a law can not claim that they have full democracy. One of the reasons for passing this law is reducing corruption. Corruption is based on secrecy. Citizens and institutions become corrupted when the public has no insight into their work. If the work of public institutions is transparent and offered for public inspection, then the chance for them to be corrupt is smaller. Republic of Macedonia has adopted the Law of free access to public information in 2006. This paper analyzes the law and its application; the situation in Macedonia after the adoption of the law; concluding that despite some inconsistencies, the law has contributed to increasing transparency and reducing corruption.     The impact of EFSM composition on functional ATPG

    The effectiveness and the efficiency of functional ATPGs based on deterministic strategies is influenced by the computational model adopted to represent the design under test. In this context the extended finite state machine (EFSM) is a valuable model which reduces the risk of state explosion preserving relevant features of more traditional FSMs. This paper. defines a particular variant of EFSMs to manage properly both synchronous and asynchronous modules in a uniform way, and then it proposes theoretical basis to perform their composition by bounding state and transition growth. The aim of composition is to improve functional ATPG whose effectiveness and efficiency may be limited when separate EFSMs are used to model the design under test. Experimental results confirm this conjecture
