The end of Europe's longstanding indifference to the renminbi

In this Policy Contribution, Jean Pisani-Ferry observes the lack of European interest towards Chinaâ??s exchange policy rate. He believes that Europeans, compared to Americans, are slower to react to external developments. The absence of significant external deficit, doubts about which policy stance is desirable, internal disagreements, an untested governance of exchange-rate relations, and a habit of following US leadership may have all contributed to a slow European response. That said, the Europeans have recently woken up to the issue as the euro has appreciated quickly against both the dollar and the renminbi, and they can be expected to adopt an increasingly active stance on Chinaâ??s exchange rate policy.

This is the Final Report of the project, ‘Advancing Coordination of the Winnipeg Homeless Sector’. Over the last year, there have been efforts in the homeless serving community to map out service gaps and needs, and to discuss HPS funding and how it aligns with community priorities. Ammonia : this is not the end but rather the end of the beginning

Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) represents a wide spectrum of neurological or neuropsychological symptoms caused by liver disease and/or portosystemic shunts. The major role of hyperammonemia in association with systemic inflammation and oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of HE has progressively emerged. However, the cascading downstream effects caused by these pathogenic factors remain unresolved. The underlying abnormalities which are thought to cause HE include modification of glutamatergic and GABAergic neurotransmission, mitochondrial dysfunction, energy impairment, lactate dyshomeostasis, increased blood-brain barrier permeability, brain edema/astrocyte swelling, as well as accumulation of toxic compounds (manganese, bile acids, indols)
