Dispelling the myths of online education: learning via the information superhighway
There continues to be a perception that online education is inferior to traditional education. In the U.S. online learning is more developed than in the U.K. This paper provides insights into a U.S. provision and takes a close look at what are perceived as weaknesses of on line learning and argues that these are not necessarily inherent weaknesses of this form of educational delivery. Then, results of two major studies, undertaken in the U.S. are provided comparing the effectiveness of online education to traditional education as perceived by current MBA students and past graduates. Results of these studies suggest that students of MBA modules and MBA graduates perceive the quality and effectiveness of online education to be similar to, if not higher than, the quality and effectiveness of traditional modules and programmes
Strategic Knowledge Measurement and Management
Knowledge and intellectual capital are now recognized as vital resources for organizational survival and competitive advantage. A vast array of knowledge measures has evolved, spanning many disciplines. This chapter reviews knowledge measures focusing on groups of individuals (such as teams, business and organizations), as they reflect the stock or flow of knowledge, as well as enabling processes that enhance knowledge stocks and flows. The chapter emphasizes the importance of organizational value chains, pivotal talent pools and the link between knowledge and competitive success, in understanding the significance of todayâs knowledge measures, and opportunities for future research and practice to enhance them
HOW TO INCREASE EMPLOYEEâS DISCIPLINARY IN FACULTY MEDICINE OF DIPONEGORO UNIVERSITY
Human Capital plays an important role in organization. It is the heart of the organization
strategy. Many factors embeded in it. Public Service employees as government human capital
instead of the contract employees. The quality of the Public Service Employee has recently
become a major issue. It is widely known that Public Service employee is lacking of
disciplin. The issue discuss most in Public service employeeâs disciplinary is absentheeism.
This study presents factors that influence the Public Service employeeâs disciplinary in
Faculty of Medicine of Diponegoro University.
This research purposes will support the decision â making process to increase the Faculty of
Medicine of Diponegoro University employeeâs disciplinary, this study proposing some
models analyzed by SEM. The study population is administration staffs in Faculty of
Medicine of Diponegoro University for both Public Service employees and contract
employees. The respondents are 120 employees whose given some questionaires related to
the study.
The result of the data analysis shows that the human capital is influenced by knowledge
sharing, empowerment and workplace environment. Whilst human capital influences

HRM, organizational capacity for change, and performance: a global perspective
This special issue brings together a variety of articles, each one enriching understanding about whether and how human resource management (HRM) influences organizational performance (however defined) against a backdrop of complex change. We present a preliminary framework that enables us to integrate the diverse themes explored in the special issue, proposing a mediating role for organizational change capacity (OCC). OCC represents a particular subset within the resource- based literature labeled as âdynamic capabilities.â Although not well researched, there is evidence that OCC is positively associated with firm performance and that this relationship is stronger given conditions of high uncertainty. Our framework reflects on external and internal parameters, which we suggest moderate the relationship between human resource management (HRM), OCC, and organizational performance. Our intention is to provide compelling insight for both practitioners and researchers, especially those whose remit extends beyond national boundaries, with reference to areas of the globe as disparate as Greece, Ireland, Pakistan, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom
Denial at the top table: status attributions and implications for marketing
Senior marketing management is seldom represented on the Board of Directors nowadays, reflecting a deteriorating status of the marketing profession. We examine some of the key reasons for marketingâs demise, and discuss how the status of marketing may be restored by demonstrating the value of marketing to the business community. We attribute marketingâs demise to several related key factors: narrow typecasting, marginalisation and limited involvement in product development, questionable marketing curricula, insensitivity toward environmental change, questionable professional standards and roles, and marketingâs apparent lack of accountability to CEOs. Each of these leads to failure to communicate, create, or deliver value within marketing. We argue that a continued inability to deal with marketingâs crisis of representation will further erode the status of the discipline both academically and professionally
The provision of financial education in Malta
It is becoming evident that preparation for life requires more than developing the ability to read and write, manipulate figures, and become technologically savvy. The provision of
holistic education also entails developing other forms of literacies, amongst which is the ability to empower individuals to manage personal finances and understand corporate and public financial decisions and outcomes. In the absence of such a preparation,
students emerge out of compulsory schooling vulnerable to scams and untrained to manage personal wealth and plan ahead. Given that little local research has so far been undertaken to investigate this area, this paper is an attempt to stimulate discussion on
financial education in Malta. It takes a close look at the local educational system and investigates access and content in this area provided by compulsory schooling. This paper employs content analysis of local and international official documentation
to bring to the fore the urgent need for local research on the requisites to enhance the provisions of financial literacy. Further research into the levels of school leaversâ financial literacy and the quality of financial education is deemed crucial by this study
to shed further light on the subject. This study emphasizes the lack of research in this important area, notwithstanding the fact that financial education is of direct interest to policy-makers, educators, and the business community.peer-reviewe
Transformational leadership and innovation at the Lebanese banking industry
Purpose: Transformational leadership (TL) has been recognized as one of the most important factor influencing innovation. It is argued that this style plays an essential role in developing the process, structure and climate for organizations to become innovative. This research aims to examine the impact of TL on two aspects of innovation namely product and process innovation. Design/Methodology/Approach: The quantitative and explanatory analysis was taken by using the Structural equations modeling (SEM) with AMOS 20 to examine the relationship between TL and innovation. Research data were collected through a survey method. The sample result was determined by the probability stratiïŹed sampling technique of about 310 employees at 27 banks in Lebanon. Findings: The ïŹndings confirmed the importance of TL in enhancing innovation in banking sector. The main implication of the research highlights that individualized consideration is the most important predictor of product and process innovation followed by, inspirational motivation and idealized influence, respectively, whereas, intellectual stimulation has insignificant influence on product and process innovation. Practical Implications: Findings point to how transformational style of leadership produce better outcomes for the banks by mobilizing employees to engage in innovative products and processes. Originality/Value: These ïŹndings extends the understanding of the processes through which transformational styles of leadership stimulate innovation, and also highlight the beneïŹts gained by cultivating more transformational styles of leadership to generate more innovative outcomes.peer-reviewe
