    Fast Compressed Sensing MRI Based on Complex Double-Density Dual-Tree Discrete Wavelet Transform

    Compressed sensing (CS) has been applied to accelerate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for many years. Due to the lack of translation invariance of the wavelet basis, undersampled MRI reconstruction based on discrete wavelet transform may result in serious artifacts. In this paper, we propose a CS-based reconstruction scheme, which combines complex double-density dual-tree discrete wavelet transform (CDDDT-DWT) with fast iterative shrinkage/soft thresholding algorithm (FISTA) to efficiently reduce such visual artifacts. The CDDDT-DWT has the characteristics of shift invariance, high degree, and a good directional selectivity. In addition, FISTA has an excellent convergence rate, and the design of FISTA is simple. Compared with conventional CS-based reconstruction methods, the experimental results demonstrate that this novel approach achieves higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), larger signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), better structural similarity index (SSIM), and lower relative error

    Watermarking for multimedia security using complex wavelets

    This paper investigates the application of complex wavelet transforms to the field of digital data hiding. Complex wavelets offer improved directional selectivity and shift invariance over their discretely sampled counterparts allowing for better adaptation of watermark distortions to the host media. Two methods of deriving visual models for the watermarking system are adapted to the complex wavelet transforms and their performances are compared. To produce improved capacity a spread transform embedding algorithm is devised, this combines the robustness of spread spectrum methods with the high capacity of quantization based methods. Using established information theoretic methods, limits of watermark capacity are derived that demonstrate the superiority of complex wavelets over discretely sampled wavelets. Finally results for the algorithm against commonly used attacks demonstrate its robustness and the improved performance offered by complex wavelet transforms

    Painting Analysis Using Wavelets and Probabilistic Topic Models

    In this paper, computer-based techniques for stylistic analysis of paintings are applied to the five panels of the 14th century Peruzzi Altarpiece by Giotto di Bondone. Features are extracted by combining a dual-tree complex wavelet transform with a hidden Markov tree (HMT) model. Hierarchical clustering is used to identify stylistic keywords in image patches, and keyword frequencies are calculated for sub-images that each contains many patches. A generative hierarchical Bayesian model learns stylistic patterns of keywords; these patterns are then used to characterize the styles of the sub-images; this in turn, permits to discriminate between paintings. Results suggest that such unsupervised probabilistic topic models can be useful to distill characteristic elements of style.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, ICIP 201

    Artificial neural network (ANN) has application in communication engineering in diverse areas such as channel equalization, channel modeling, error control code because of its capability of nonlinear processing, adaptability, and parallel processing. On the other hand, wavelet transform (WT) with both the time and the frequency resolution provides the exact representation of signal in both domains. Applying these signal processing tools for channel compensation and noise reduction can provide an enhanced performance compared to the traditional tools. In this paper, the slot error rate (SER) performance of digital pulse interval modulation (DPIM) in diffuse indoor optical wireless (OW) links subjected to the artificial light interference (ALI) is reported with new receiver structure based on the discrete WT (DWT) and ANN.     Performance Evaluation of Quarter Shift Dual Tree Complex Wavelet Transform Based Multifocus Image Fusion Using Fusion rules

    In this paper, multifocus image fusion using quarter shift dual tree complex wavelet transform is proposed. Multifocus image fusion is a technique that combines the partially focused regions of multiple images of the same scene into a fully focused fused image. Directional selectivity and shift invariance properties are essential to produce a high quality fused image. However conventional wavelet based fusion algorithms introduce the ringing artifacts into fused image due to lack of shift invariance and poor directionality. The quarter shift dual tree complex wavelet transform has proven to be an effective multi-resolution transform for image fusion with its directional and shift invariant properties. Experimentation with this transform led to the conclusion that the proposed method not only produce sharp details (focused regions) in fused image due to its good directionality but also removes artifacts with its shift invariance in order to get high quality fused image. Proposed method performance is compared with traditional fusion methods in terms of objective measures.
