    Semantic Integration of Coastal Buoys Data using SPARQL

    Currently, the data provided by the heterogeneous buoy sensors/networks (e.g. National Data Buoy center (NDBC), Gulf Of Maine Ocean Observing System (GoMoos) etc. is not amenable to the development of integrated systems due to conflicts in the data representation at syntactic and structural levels. With the rapid increase in the amount of information, the integration of heterogeneous resources is an important issue and requires integrative technologies such as semantic web. In distributed data dissemination system, normally querying on single database will not provide relevant information and requires querying across interrelated data sources to retrieve holistic information. In this thesis we develop system for integrating two different Resource Description Framework (RDF) data sources through intelligent querying using Simple Protocol and RDF Query Language (SPARQL). We use Semantic Web application framework from AllegroGraph that provides functionality for developing triple store for the ontological representations, forming federated stores and querying it through SPARQL

    Ontological interpretation of network monitoring data

    Interpreting measurement and monitoring data from networks in general and the Internet in particular is a challenge. The motivation for this work has been to in- vestigate new ways to bridge the gap between the kind of data which are available and the more developed information which is needed by network stakeholders to support decision making and network management. Specific problems of syntax, semantics, conflicting data and modeling domain-specific knowledge have been identified. The methods developed and tested have used the Resource Descrip- tion Framework (rdf) and the ontology languages of the Semantic Web to bring together data from disparate sources into unified knowledgebases in two discrete case studies, both using real network data. Those knowledgebases have then been demonstrated to be usable and valuable sources of information about the networks concerned. Some success has been achieved in overcoming each of the identified problems using these techniques, proving the thesis that taking an ontological ap- proach to the processing of network monitoring data can be a very useful technique for overcoming problems of interpretation and for making information available to those who need it

    RedSib: A smart-M3 semantic information broker implementation

    Smart-M3 is an open source middleware solution originally released by Nokia as a prototype reference infrastructure to support context-aware ontology-driven smart applications. This paper proposes a renewedSmart-M3 Semantic Information Broker implementation with increased performance and usability levels. In the proposed solution many features have been added or modified, preserving compatibility with the previous release. The major changes are related to the subscription mechanism, the RDF store and the supported encodings for information representation and query. SPARQL query language replaces Wilbur. This paper enlightens the analysis carried out on the original implementation and discusses the choices made to increase its maturity level. The work done is a step forward towards a stable and efficient open interoperability platform for the emerging market of smart space based services

    Local Type Checking for Linked Data Consumers

    The Web of Linked Data is the cumulation of over a decade of work by the Web standards community in their effort to make data more Web-like. We provide an introduction to the Web of Linked Data from the perspective of a Web developer that would like to build an application using Linked Data. We identify a weakness in the development stack as being a lack of domain specific scripting languages for designing background processes that consume Linked Data. To address this weakness, we design a scripting language with a simple but appropriate type system. In our proposed architecture some data is consumed from sources outside of the control of the system and some data is held locally. Stronger type assumptions can be made about the local data than external data, hence our type system mixes static and dynamic typing. Throughout, we relate our work to the W3C recommendations that drive Linked Data, so our syntax is accessible to Web developers.Comment: In Proceedings WWV 2013, arXiv:1308.026
