Electronic Data Interchange In The Automotive Industry In Morocco : Toward The Optimization Of Logistics Information Flows

The information systems conducted by the requirements of the internationalization of activities, by the organization of firms in networks and by the evolution of Information and Communication Technology, tend more and more toward the sharing of information in real time. The Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is among the tools that guarantee this exchange. EDI is a quick and effective means of transfer of business documents and ensures the optimization of the information flows of and their synchronization with the physical flows in the Supply chain. The objective of this study is to answer this research question “how the automobile industry in Morocco uses the EDI technology to optimize its flows?” We chose to adopt a case study approach to observing the reality of the practice of the EDI and its use as a tool for optimizing information flows. Understanding IOS Implementation Process in an Automotive Manufacturing Company: An Organisational Motivation Perspective

A leading Australian automotive manufacturing company has introduced an internet-enabled electronic data interchange (EDI) system recently that links the company with its small suppliers. In this paper, we use a scientific case study approach to examine the internet-enabled EDI implementation experience of the automotive company, and explain its implementation process by referring to a theoretical model known as the IOS Motivation Model (IMM) which we have developed based on the notion of ‗organizational motivation‘ for IOS adoption [16]. The case study findings highlight the key role of organisational motivation as a determinant of IOS implementation process undertaken by the company. This finding is useful to e-business practitioners because it provides them with a means of assessing IOS implementation related activities, and for researchers, because it provides a theoretical framework for understanding the role of motivation in the activities conducted when implementing a system

Developing an Understanding of Interorganizational Systems: Arguments for Multi Level Analysis and Structuration Theory

Strategies and policies for the adoption and development of interorganizational systems require further understanding of the theoretical background to these systems. An argument is made for development of theory that is multi-level, processual and has an emergent perspective. Such theory is needed to deal with a context where environmental influences are important in addition to complex interactions between organizational activities at the micro-level and industry structure at the macro-level. The use of structuration theory as a vehicle to advance further understanding is explored. An illustration is given of application of this theory in the development of supply chain management in the beef industry

Understanding IOS adoption processes in a first-tier automotive supplier company: An application of the theory of IOS adoption motivation

The IOS Adoption Motivation (IAM) model is a theoretical framework that relates organisational motivations for IOS adoption to IOS adoption processes. The IAM model which was tested in the Australian pharmaceutical industry however requires additional validation. We have thus applied the IAM model to understand IOS adoption processes of a supplier that operates in the Australian automotive industry. Interesting variations in the IOS adoption processes between two stages of EDI adoption were observed which are explained in terms of the model. The findings provide broad support for the IAM model, and will be useful to IT managers responsible for managing IOS

Potentials of Traceability Systems - A Cross-Industry Perspective

Recently, traceability systems have become more common, but their prevalence and design vary significantly depending on the industry. Different law and customer-based requirements for traceability systems have led to diverse standards. This contribution offers a framework to compare the state of traceability systems in different industries. A comparison of industry characteristics, motivations for traceability system implementation, common data management, and identification systems are offered. Upon that analysis, the potential of cross-industry traceability systems and approaches is identified.
