    Easy Ontology without Deflationary Metaontology

    Get PDF
This is a contribution to a symposium on Amie Thomasson’s Ontology Made Easy (2015). Thomasson defends two deflationary theses: that philosophical questions about the existence of numbers, tables, properties, and other disputed entities can all easily be answered, and that there is something wrong with prolonged debates about whether such objects exist. I argue that the first thesis (properly understood) does not by itself entail the second. Rather, the case for deflationary metaontology rests largely on a controversial doctrine about the possible meanings of ‘object’. I challenge Thomasson's argument for that doctrine, and I make a positive case for the availability of the contested, unrestricted use of ‘object’

Nodule in mesosalphinx: a rare microscopic finding

    Get PDF
Ectopic adrenal cortical rests are uncommon in adults, particularly in females. Their occurrence in fallopian tubes or mesosalphinx is extremely rare. Herein, we report a rare occurance of ectopic adrenal cortical rests in mesosalphinx which was diagnosed on histopathological examination. To the best of our knowledge, there are less than five previously published cases at this rare location and the present report is the second case from India. A 46-year-old female who underwent hysterectomy for fibroids was incidentally detected with ectopic adrenal cortical rests in the mesosalphinx on histopathology. The present case is reported to increase the awareness of this unique finding at this rare location, its implications and histopathological diagnosis.

Bargaining Models and Identifying the Wage Equation

    Get PDF
It is commonly asserted that the standard wage equation derived from bargaining theory cannot be identified. Here, it is argued that the case for this alleged failure rests on an outmoded definition of identification. Newer concepts based on non-stationarities, cointegration and reduced rank are appropriate. An empirical example applying these concepts shows that the standard model can be derived and that far from being underidentified, it is actually overidentified.

Why Aid Does Not Increase Savings Rates in Sub-Saharan Africa

    Get PDF
Since the mid-1980s, sub-Saharan Africa has had the lowest savings and investment rates of any region in the world. It has also been the recipient of the highest levels of Official Development Assistance relative to output. Hence, many analysts have been concerned that ODA might be having a negative impact on domestic savings. ODA Results This would be the case if ODA mostly encouraged higher consumption rates, and did little to boost domestic investment. Has this been the case? This One Pager investigates this question (see Serieux, 2009). Most previous analyses of this issue have presumed that aid could be used for either domestic consumption or investment. However, such analysis is incomplete since it also rests on the assumption that all ODA actually stays within the developing country

Primary hepatocellular carcinoma in ectopic liver masquerading as left adrenal carcinoma: a rare occurrence

    Get PDF
We report a unique case of primary hepatocellular carcinoma in an ectopic liver rest in the left renal hilum masquerading as a left adrenal tumor. Adrenal tumors have been reported within adrenal rests inside the liver but hepatocellular carcinoma in ectopic liver rests in the adrenal area is an extremely rare entity. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report from the Indian subcontinent to describe this event in the English literature
