Experimental Verification of Cavity-Flow Wall Effects and Correction Rules

    Get PDF
This report is intended as a companion to Report No. E-111A.5, "Wall Efects in Cavity Flows", by Wu, Whitney and Lin. Some simple rules for the correction of wall effect are derived from that theoretical study. Experiments designed to complement the theory and to inspect the validity of the correction rules were then carried out in the high-speed water tunnel of the Hydrodynamics Laboratory, California Institute of Technology. The measurements on a series of fully cavitating wedges at zero angle of attack suggested that of the theoretical models that due to Riabouchinsky is superior. They also confirmed the accuracy of the correction rule derived using that model and based on a measurement of the minimum pressure along the tunnel wall

Interactive Multimedia Teaching of Accounting Information System (AIS) Cycles: Student Perceptions and Views.

    Get PDF
This paper describes the design and development of a CD ROM intended to assist students' learning by bringing a sense of reality to the concepts studied in relation to Accounting Information Systems cycles. The educational design is underpinned by constructivist theories of learning which espouse the benefits of experiential learning in facilitating effective student learning. Three Australian companies - Warner Bros. Movie World, Golden Circle and Zupps Parts – are featured on the CD ROM to provide virtual 'experiential learning experiences' for students. An extensive evaluation of the CD ROM was conducted, involving both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, to ascertain students' perceived value of the CD ROM in assisting their learning. Results indicate that the CD ROM offered students a real life understanding of applicable concepts and that students were receptive to learning in online environments which are appropriately designed and constructed

The Foundation Center 2002 Annual Report

Nonprofit organizations faced new challenges in 2002 as a result of the effects of September 11, 2001, and a weakened economy. To identify sources of support to sustain their organizations, and often to respond to increased demand for their services, growing numbers of grantseekers turned to the Foundation Center for authoritative information on grantmakers and their giving. This increased need for information coincided with the Center's efforts to expand our grantmaker and grant information and to increase the currency of the data we provide to grantseekers and other researchers through our print and electronic resources

    Minutes of the CD-ROM Workshop

    Get PDF
The workshop described in this document had two goals: (1) to establish guidelines for the CD-ROM as a tool to distribute datasets; and (2) to evaluate current scientific CD-ROM projects as an archive. Workshop attendees were urged to coordinate with European groups to develop CD-ROM, which is already available at low cost in the U.S., as a distribution medium for astronomical datasets. It was noted that NASA has made the CD Publisher at the National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC) available to the scientific community when the Publisher is not needed for NASA work. NSSDC's goal is to provide the Publisher's user with the hardware and software tools needed to design a user's dataset for distribution. This includes producing a master CD and copies. The prerequisite premastering process is described, as well as guidelines for CD-ROM construction. The production of discs was evaluated. CD-ROM projects, guidelines, and problems of the technology were discussed
