Quality of experience and access network traffic management of HTTP adaptive video streaming
The thesis focuses on Quality of Experience (QoE) of HTTP adaptive video streaming (HAS) and traffic management in access networks to improve the QoE of HAS. First, the QoE impact of adaptation parameters and time on layer was investigated with subjective crowdsourcing studies. The results were used to compute a QoE-optimal adaptation strategy for given video and network conditions. This allows video service providers to develop and benchmark improved adaptation logics for HAS. Furthermore, the thesis investigated concepts to monitor video QoE on application and network layer, which can be used by network providers in the QoE-aware traffic management cycle. Moreover, an analytic and simulative performance evaluation of QoE-aware traffic management on a bottleneck link was conducted. Finally, the thesis investigated socially-aware traffic management for HAS via Wi-Fi offloading of mobile HAS flows. A model for the distribution of public Wi-Fi hotspots and a platform for socially-aware traffic management on private home routers was presented.
sistemas C-ITS son las comunicaciones vehiculares o V2X (Vehicle To Everything),
(Vehicle to Infrastructure).
Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems or C-ITS aim to improve the safety and
efficiency of road infrastructure using ICT sector innovations. A key for C-ITS
systems deployment is Vehicular Communications or V2X (Vehicle To Everything),
within which Vehicle To Infrastructure communications (V2I) are framed.
The objective of this Master’s Thesis is the development of an emulation framework
for a V2I-based collision avoidance safety system, motivated by a collaboration of
Grupo de Comunicaciones Optica’s project ARTEMIS with Grupo Renault España to
evaluate and validate systems of this kind.
With this objective in mind, a service architecture is developed in accordance with the
current trends of automotive companies in V2X systems. To that end, access to the
service will be implemented through the LTE cellular protocol, which was achieved
by 4G network emulation through the use of SDR technology. In addition, vehicular
communications standards are implemented through the OpenC2X software, which
alongside the IoT protocol MQTT, form the bulk of the protocol stack used for the
framework.
Mögliche gesundheitliche Auswirkungen verschiedener Frequenzbereiche elektromagnetischer Felder (HF-EMF).
Survey on Wi-Fi and Cellular Communication Technology for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) in a Developing Economy
Traditional energy meters have suffered from a lack of automated analysis and inaccuracy in reading energy consumption, which has brought about smart metering systems. Developing economies such as in Africa. still experience a setback in electricity monitoring and load distribution because of existing traditional meter systems in use. Communication technologies play an important role to improve the monitoring of energy consumption and ensure a road map toward a smart grid. This paper reviews communication technologies used for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) emphasizing Wi-Fi and Cellular technologies. Metrics used to evaluate their performance include cost, energy efficiency, coverage, deployment, latency, payload, and scalability. The review presents a benchmark for research on AMI communication technologies in developing economies. When adopted, the expected AMI benefits are reduced energy theft, cost efficiency, real-time analysis, security, and safety of energy supply in developing economies
5G NR sidelink on UE protocol stack
Abstract. The idea of effcient communication outside of coverage of base stations have been discussed for a long time. The most suitable solution for this idea has been the ability to extend the communication through devices. In theory, it would be necessary for just one device to be in the coverage of the base station, and the communication could be further extended by hopping from device to device. These communications are called device-to-device communications. Multiple different technologies could be used to solve this task, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and sidelink.
Especially when it comes to high mobility and reliability dependent use cases, technologies such as Wi-Fi are simply not capable. This is where the sidelink technology comes in. The sidelink is a communication technology that allows devices to communicate with each other directly, without the need for a cellular network. This technology utilizes the frequency spectrum and enables high-speed, low-latency communication between devices. It has numerous potential applications, including vehicle-to-vehicle communication, machine-type communication, and local area networking.
In this thesis, technical characteristics of 5G NR sidelink and its potential applications and challenges are considered. The overview of the ongoing standardization efforts and the deployment status of this technology are discussed. The effciency of the sidelink technology is evaluated and compared to the existing technologies. The sidelink related future updates are discussed and their effect on the current specifcation is evaluated.5G NR sidelink -käyttäjäpäätteen protokollapino. Tiivistelmä. Tukiasemien kantavuuden ulkopuolelle yltävistä verkkoyhteyksistä on keskusteltu jo pitkään. Potentiaalisesti toimivin ratkaisu olisi kasvattaa kantavuutta kannettavien laitteiden kautta.
